12. Surah Yusuf

1. الر ۚ تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ الْمُبِينِ
‘Alif-Lām-Rā Tilka Āyātu Al-Kitābi Al-Mubīni
12:1  Alif Laam Ra. These are the Verses of the clear Book.
1. Alif-Laaam-Raa; tilka Aayaatul Kitaabil Mubeen
2. إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاهُ قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا لَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ
Innā Anzalnāhu Qur’ānāan `Arabīyāan La`allakum Ta`qilūna
12:2  Indeed, We have sent it down, as a Quran in Arabic so that you may understand.
2. Innaaa anzalnaahu quraanan ‘Arabiyyal la ‘allakum ta’qiloon
3. نَحْنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ أَحْسَنَ الْقَصَصِ بِمَا أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ وَإِنْ كُنْتَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِ لَمِنَ الْغَافِلِينَ
Naĥnu Naquşşu `Alayka Aĥsana Al-Qaşaşi Bimā Awĥaynā Ilayka Hādhā Al-Qur’āna Wa ‘In Kunta Min Qablihi Lamina Al-Ghāfilīna
12:3  We relate to you ˹O Prophet˺ the best of the narrations in what We have revealed to you of this Quran, although from before this you were surely among the unaware.
3. Nahnu naqussu ‘alaika ahsanal qasasi bimaaa awhainaaa ilaika haazal quraana wa in kunta min qablihee laminal ghaafileen
4. إِذْ قَالَ يُوسُفُ لِأَبِيهِ يَا أَبَتِ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ أَحَدَ عَشَرَ كَوْكَبًا وَالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ رَأَيْتُهُمْ لِي سَاجِدِينَ
Idh Qāla Yūsufu Li’abīhi Yā ‘Abati Innī Ra’aytu Aĥada `Ashara Kawkabāan Wa Ash-Shamsa Wa Al-Qamara Ra’aytuhum Sājidīna
12:4  When Joseph ˹Yusuf˺ said to his father (i.e., Yaqoub), “O my dear father! Indeed, I saw ˹in a dream˺ eleven stars and the sun and the moon; I saw them prostrating to me!
4. Iz qaala Yoosufu li abeehi yaaa abati innee ra aytu ahada ‘ashara kawkabanw wash shamsa walqamara ra aytuhum lee saajideen
5. قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ لَا تَقْصُصْ رُؤْيَاكَ عَلَىٰ إِخْوَتِكَ فَيَكِيدُوا لَكَ كَيْدًا ۖ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لِلْإِنْسَانِ عَدُوٌّ مُبِينٌ
Qāla Yā Bunayya Taqşuş Ru’uyā Ka `Alá Ikhwatika Fayakīdū Laka Kaydāan Inna Ash-Shayţāna Lil’insāni `Adūwun Mubīnun
12:5  He said,O my dear son! Do not relate your vision to your brothers, lest/or they will/may plan against you a plot. Indeed, the Satan is an open enemy to man/humankind.

5. Qaala yaa bunaiya laa taqsus ru’yaaka ‘alaaa ikhwatika fayakeedoo laka kaidaa; innash Shaitaana lil insaani ‘aduwwum mubeen
6. وَكَذَٰلِكَ يَجْتَبِيكَ رَبُّكَ وَيُعَلِّمُكَ مِنْ تَأْوِيلِ الْأَحَادِيثِ وَيُتِمُّ نِعْمَتَهُ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ يَعْقُوبَ كَمَا أَتَمَّهَا عَلَىٰ أَبَوَيْكَ مِنْ قَبْلُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ
Wa Kadhalika Yajtabīka Rabbuka Wa Yu`allimuka Min Ta’wīli Al-‘Aĥādīthi Wa Yutimmu Ni`matahu `Alayka Wa `Alá ‘Āli Ya`qūba Kamā Atammahā `Alá Abawayka Min Qablu Ibrāhīma Wa ‘IsĥāqaInna Rabbaka `Alīmun Ĥakīmun
12:6  And thus will your Lord choose you ˹O Joseph˺ and will teach you the interpretation of the narratives and complete His Favor upon you and upon the family of Yaqoub ˹just˺ as He completed it on your two forefathers from beforeAbraham and Isaac. Indeed, your Lord is All-Knower, All-Wise.”
6. Wa kazaalika yajtabeeka rabbuka wa yu’allimuka min ta’weelil ahaadeesi wa yutimmu ni’matahoo ‘alaika wa ‘alaaa Aali Ya’qooba kamaaa atammahaa ‘alaaa abawaika min qablu Ibraaheema wa Ishaaq; inna Rabbaka ‘Aleemun hakeem (section 1)
7. لَقَدْ كَانَ فِي يُوسُفَ وَإِخْوَتِهِ آيَاتٌ لِلسَّائِلِينَ
Laqad Kāna Yūsufa Wa ‘Ikhwatihi Āyātun Lilssā’ilīna
12:7  Certainly in ˹the story of˺ Joseph and his brothers were signs for those who ask.

7. Laqad kaana fee Yoosufa wa ikhwatiheee Aayaatul lissaaa’ileen
8. إِذْ قَالُوا لَيُوسُفُ وَأَخُوهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَىٰ أَبِينَا مِنَّا وَنَحْنُ عُصْبَةٌ إِنَّ أَبَانَا لَفِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ
Idh Qālū Layūsufu Wa ‘Akhūhu ‘Aĥabbu Ilá Abīnā Minnā Wa Naĥnu `Uşbatun Inna Abānā Lafī Đalālin Mubīnin
12:8  When they (i.e., brothers) said ˹to one another˺, “Surely Joseph and his brother ˹Benjamin˺ are more beloved to our father than we are, while we are a group. Indeed, our father is surely in an clear error.
8. Iz qaaloo la Yoosufu wa akhoohu ahabbu ilaaa Abeenaa minnaa wa nahnu ‘usbatun; inna abaanaa lafee dalaalim mubeen
9. اقْتُلُوا يُوسُفَ أَوِ اطْرَحُوهُ أَرْضًا يَخْلُ لَكُمْ وَجْهُ أَبِيكُمْ وَتَكُونُوا مِنْ بَعْدِهِ قَوْمًا صَالِحِينَ
Aqtulū Yūsufa Awi Aţraĥūhu Arđāan Yakhlu Lakum Wajhu Abīkum Wa Takūnū Min Ba`dihi Qawmāan Şāliĥīna
12:9  Kill Joseph or cast him out to some ˹distant˺ land so that the face (i.e., attention) of your father will be free for you, and you will be from after that a righteous people.”
9. Uqtuloo Yoosufa awitra hoohu ardany yakhlu lakum wajhu abeekum wa takoonoo mim ba’dihee qawman saaliheen
10. قَالَ قَائِلٌ مِنْهُمْ لَا تَقْتُلُوا يُوسُفَ وَأَلْقُوهُ فِي غَيَابَتِ الْجُبِّ يَلْتَقِطْهُ بَعْضُ السَّيَّارَةِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ فَاعِلِينَ
Qāla Qā’ilun Minhum Taqtulū Yūsufa Wa ‘Alqūhu Fī Ghayābati Al-Jubbi Yaltaqiţhu Ba`đu As-SayyāratiIn Kuntum Fā`ilīna
12:10  A speaker among them said,” Do not kill Joseph. But if you are doing something throw him into the bottom of the well, some travellers may pick him/him up.”
10. Qaalaa qaaa’ilum minhum laa taqtuloo Yoosufa wa alqoohu fee ghayaabatil jubbi yaltaqithu badus sai yaarati in kuntum faa ‘ileen
11. قَالُوا يَا أَبَانَا مَا لَكَ لَا تَأْمَنَّا عَلَىٰ يُوسُفَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَنَاصِحُونَ
Qālū  ‘Abānā Laka Ta’mannā `Alá Yūsufa Wa ‘Innā Lahu Lanāşiĥūna
12:11  They said, “O our father! Why do you not trust us with Joseph, while indeed, we are surely well-wishers for/to him?
11. Qaaloo yaaa abaanaa maa laka laa ta’mannaa ‘alaa Yoosufa wa innaa lahoo lanaa sihoon
12. أَرْسِلْهُ مَعَنَا غَدًا يَرْتَعْ وَيَلْعَبْ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ
Arsilhu Ma`anā Ghadāan Yarta` Wa Yal`ab Wa ‘Innā Lahu Laĥāfižūna
12:12  Send him with us tomorrow to enjoy and play. And indeed, we will surely watch over him.”

12. Arsillhu ma’anaa ghadany yarta’ wa yal’ab wa innaa lahoo la haafizoon
13. قَالَ إِنِّي لَيَحْزُنُنِي أَنْ تَذْهَبُوا بِهِ وَأَخَافُ أَنْ يَأْكُلَهُ الذِّئْبُ وَأَنْتُمْ عَنْهُ غَافِلُونَ
Qāla Innī Layaĥzununī An Tadh/habū Bihi Wa ‘Akhāfu An Ya’kulahu Adh-Dhi’bu Wa ‘Antum `Anhu Ghāfilūna
12:13  He said, “Indeed, it surely saddens me that you should take him ˹away with you˺ and I fear that a wolf would eat him while you are unaware/ negligent of him.”
13. Qaala innee la yahzununeee an tazhaboo bihee wa akhaafu any ya’kulahuz zi’bu wa antum ‘anhu ghaafiloon
14. قَالُوا لَئِنْ أَكَلَهُ الذِّئْبُ وَنَحْنُ عُصْبَةٌ إِنَّا إِذًا لَخَاسِرُونَ
Qālū La’inAkalahu Adh-Dhi’bu Wa Naĥnu `Uşbatun Innā Idhāan Lakhāsirūna
12:14  They said, “If the wolf eats him while we are a group, indeed, then we would certainly be losers.”
14. Qaaloo la in akalahuzzi’bu wa nahnu ‘usbatun innaaa izal lakhaasiroon
15. فَلَمَّا ذَهَبُوا بِهِ وَأَجْمَعُوا أَنْ يَجْعَلُوهُ فِي غَيَابَتِ الْجُبِّ ۚ وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْهِ لَتُنَبِّئَنَّهُمْ بِأَمْرِهِمْ هَٰذَا وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ
Falammā Dhahabū Bihi Wa ‘Ajma`ū ‘An Yaj`alūhu Fī Ghayābati Al-Jubbi Wa ‘Awĥaynā ‘Ilayhi Latunabbi’annahum Bi’amrihim Hādhā Wa Hum Yash`urūna
12:15  So when they took him ˹away˺ and they agreed that they put him into the bottom of the well, and We inspired to him, “˹One day˺ surely, you will inform them about this affair, while they do not realize.”
15. Falammaa zahaboo bihee wa ajma’ooo anyyaj’aloohu fee ghayaabatil jubb; wa awhainaaa ilaihi latunabbi ‘annahum bi amrihim haaza wa hum laa yash’uroon
16. وَجَاءُوا أَبَاهُمْ عِشَاءً يَبْكُونَ
Wa Jā’ū ‘Abāhum `Ishā’an Yabkūna
12:16  And they came to their father at night/ in the evening, weeping.
16. Wa jaaa’ooo abaahum ‘ishaaa ‘any yabkoon
17. قَالُوا يَا أَبَانَا إِنَّا ذَهَبْنَا نَسْتَبِقُ وَتَرَكْنَا يُوسُفَ عِنْدَ مَتَاعِنَا فَأَكَلَهُ الذِّئْبُ ۖ وَمَا أَنْتَ بِمُؤْمِنٍ لَنَا وَلَوْ كُنَّا صَادِقِينَ
Qālū Yā ‘Abānā ‘Innā Dhahabnā Nastabiqu Wa Taraknā Yūsufa `Inda Matā`inā Fa’akalahu Adh-Dhi’bu Wa Mā Anta Bimu’uminin Lanā Wa Law Kunnā Şādiqīna
12:17  They said,O our father! Indeed, we went racing each other and we left Joseph with our belongings (i.e., our things), and the wolf ate him. But you will not believe us, even if we are truthful.”
17. Qaaloo yaaa abaanaaa innaa zahabnaa nastabiqu wa taraknaa Yoosufa ‘inda mataa’inaa fa akalahuz zi’b, wa maaa anta bimu’minil lanaa wa law kunnaa saadiqeen
18. وَجَاءُوا عَلَىٰ قَمِيصِهِ بِدَمٍ كَذِبٍ ۚ قَالَ بَلْ سَوَّلَتْ لَكُمْ أَنْفُسُكُمْ أَمْرًا ۖ فَصَبْرٌ جَمِيلٌ ۖ وَاللَّهُ الْمُسْتَعَانُ عَلَىٰ مَا تَصِفُونَ
Wa Jā’ū `Alá Qamīşihi Bidamin Kadhibin Qāla Bal Sawwalat Lakum Anfusukum Amrāan Faşabrun Jamīlun Wa Allāhu Al-Musta`ānu `Alá Taşifūna
12:18  And they came with false blood ˹stained˺ on his shirt. He ˹Jacob˺ said, “No, your souls has tempted you to do something, so ˹for me˺ patience is beautiful. And Allah is the One sought for help against what you describe.”
18. Wa jaaa’oo ‘alaa qameesi hee bidamin kazib qaala bal sawwalat lakum anfusukum amraa; fasabrun jameel; wallaahul musta’aanu ‘alaa maatasifoon
19. وَجَاءَتْ سَيَّارَةٌ فَأَرْسَلُوا وَارِدَهُمْ فَأَدْلَىٰ دَلْوَهُ ۖ قَالَ يَا بُشْرَىٰ هَٰذَا غُلَامٌ ۚ وَأَسَرُّوهُ بِضَاعَةً ۚ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ
Wa Jā’at Sayyāratun Fa’arsalū Wa Aridahum Fa’adlá Dalwahu Qāla Yā Bushrá Hādhā Ghulāmun Wa ‘Asarrūhu Biđā`atan Wa Allāhu `Alīmun Bimā Ya`malūna
12:19  And there came a caravan of travellers and they sent their water-drawer/ water-boy/ water-person, then he let his bucket down. He said, O good news! This/Here is a boy.And they hid him ˹to be sold˺ as merchandise. And Allah is All-Knower of what they do.
19. Wa jaaa’at saiyaaratun fa-arsaloo waaridahum fa adlaa dalwah; qaala yaa bushraa haaza ghulaam; wa asarroohu bi-daa’ah; wallaahu ‘aleemun bimaa ya’maloon
20. وَشَرَوْهُ بِثَمَنٍ بَخْسٍ دَرَاهِمَ مَعْدُودَةٍ وَكَانُوا فِيهِ مِنَ الزَّاهِدِينَ
Wa Sharawhu Bithamanin Bakhsin Darāhima Ma`dūdatin Wa Kānū Fīhi Mina Az-Zāhidīna
12:20  And they sold him for a very low/cheap price, for a few dirhams/ silver coins, and they were of/among those uninterested about him.

20. Wa sharawhu bisamanim bakhsin daraahima ma’doo datinw wa kaanoo feehi minaz zaahideen (section 2)
21. وَقَالَ الَّذِي اشْتَرَاهُ مِنْ مِصْرَ لِامْرَأَتِهِ أَكْرِمِي مَثْوَاهُ عَسَىٰ أَنْ يَنْفَعَنَا أَوْ نَتَّخِذَهُ وَلَدًا ۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ مَكَّنَّا لِيُوسُفَ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلِنُعَلِّمَهُ مِنْ تَأْوِيلِ الْأَحَادِيثِ ۚ وَاللَّهُ غَالِبٌ عَلَىٰ أَمْرِهِ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
Wa Qāla Al-Ladhī Ashtarāhu Min Mişra Li’imra’atihi ‘Akrimī Mathwāhu `Asá ‘An Yanfa`anā ‘Aw Nattakhidhahu Waladāan Wa Kadhalika Makkannā Liyūsufa Fī Al-‘Arđi Wa Linu`allimahu Min Ta’wīli Al-‘Aĥādīthi Wa Allāhu Ghālibun `Alá Amrihi Wa LakinnaAkthara An-Nāsi Ya`lamūna
12:21  And the one who bought him (i.e., Joseph) from Egypt said to his wife, Make his stay comfortable/ honorable. Perhaps that he may benefit us or we will take/adopt him as a son.” And thus/This is how We established Joseph in the land so that We might teach him from the interpretation of the events. And Allah is Predominant/ All-Powerful over His affairs, but most of the people do not know.
21. Wa qaalal lazish taraahu mim Misra limra atiheee akrimee maswaahu ‘asaaa any-yanfa’anaaa aw nattakhizahoo waladaa; wa kazaalika mak-kannaa li-Yoosufa fil ardi wa linu’allimahoo min ta’weelil ahaadees; wallaahu ghaalibun ‘alaaa amrihee wa laakinna aksaran naasi laa ya’lamoon
22. وَلَمَّا بَلَغَ أَشُدَّهُ آتَيْنَاهُ حُكْمًا وَعِلْمًا ۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ
Wa Lammā Balagha Ashuddahu Ātaynāhu Ĥukmāan Wa `Ilmāan Wa Kadhalika Najzī Al-Muĥsinīna
12:22  And when he reached his maturity, We gave him wisdom and knowledge. And thus/This is how We reward the good-doers.
22. Wa lammaa balagha ashuddahooo aatainaahu hukmanw wa ‘ilmaa; wa kazaa lika najzil muhsineen
23. وَرَاوَدَتْهُ الَّتِي هُوَ فِي بَيْتِهَا عَنْ نَفْسِهِ وَغَلَّقَتِ الْأَبْوَابَ وَقَالَتْ هَيْتَ لَكَ ۚ قَالَ مَعَاذَ اللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّهُ رَبِّي أَحْسَنَ مَثْوَايَ ۖ إِنَّهُ لَا يُفْلِحُ الظَّالِمُونَ
Wa Rāwadat/hu Allatī Huwa Baytihā `An Nafsihi Wa Ghallaqati Al-‘Abwāba Wa Qālat Hayta Laka Qāla Ma`ādha Al-Lahi Innahu Rabbī Aĥsana Mathwāya Innahu Yufliĥu Až-Žālimūna
12:23  And the one in whose house he lived tried to seduce him from/about himself. And she closed/locked the doors and she said,Come on, you.” He ˹Joseph˺ said, “I seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, he is my lord who has made my stay good. Indeed, the wrongdoers will never succeed.”

12:23  And sought to seduce him she who, he (was) in her house from his self. And she closed the doors and she said,Come on you.” He said,I seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, he (is) my lord (who has) made good my stay. Indeed, not will succeed the wrongdoers.”

23. Wa raawadat hul latee huwa fee baitihaa ‘an nafsihee wa ghallaqatil abwaaba wa qaalat haita lak; qaala ma’aazal laahi innahoo rabbeee ahsana maswaay; innahoo laa yuflihuz-zaalimoon
24. وَلَقَدْ هَمَّتْ بِهِ ۖ وَهَمَّ بِهَا لَوْلَا أَنْ رَأَىٰ بُرْهَانَ رَبِّهِ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ لِنَصْرِفَ عَنْهُ السُّوءَ وَالْفَحْشَاءَ ۚ إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُخْلَصِينَ
Wa Laqad Hammat Bihi Wa Hamma Bihā Lawlā An Ra’á Burhāna Rabbihi Kadhālika Linaşrifa `Anhu As-Sū’a Wa Al-Faĥshā’a Innahu Min `Ibādinā Al-Mukhlaşīna
12:24  And she certainly did desire him, and he would have desired her, if it were not that he saw the proof of his Lord. Thus, We turn away the evil and the immorality from him. Indeed, he was of Our chosen servants.

12:24  And certainly she did desire him, and he would have desired her, if not that he saw the proof of his Lord. Thus, that We might avert/ turn away the evil and the immorality from him. Indeed, he was of Our sincere servants.
24. Wa laqad hammat bihee wa hamma bihaa law laaa ar ra-aa burhaana rabbih; kazaalika linasrifa ‘anhu sooo’a walfahshaaa’; innahoo min ‘ibaadi nal mukhlaseen
25. وَاسْتَبَقَا الْبَابَ وَقَدَّتْ قَمِيصَهُ مِنْ دُبُرٍ وَأَلْفَيَا سَيِّدَهَا لَدَى الْبَابِ ۚ قَالَتْ مَا جَزَاءُ مَنْ أَرَادَ بِأَهْلِكَ سُوءًا إِلَّا أَنْ يُسْجَنَ أَوْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
Wa Astabaqā Al-Bāba Wa Qaddat Qamīşahu Min Duburin Wa ‘Alfayā Sayyidahā Ladá Al-Bābi Qālat Jazā’u Man Arāda Bi’ahlika Sū’āan ‘Illā ‘An Yusjana ‘Aw `Adhābun Alīmun
12:25  And they both raced to the door and she tore his shirt from the back, and they both found her husband at the door. She said,What is the recompense for someone who intended evil for your wife except that he ˹should˺ be imprisoned or ˹receive / be given˺ a painful punishment?”
25. Wastabaqal baaba wa qaddat qameesahoo min duburinw wa alfayaa saiyidahaa ladal baab; qaalat maa jazaaa’u man araada bi ahlika sooo’an illaaa any-yusjana aw azaabun ‘aleem
26. قَالَ هِيَ رَاوَدَتْنِي عَنْ نَفْسِي ۚ وَشَهِدَ شَاهِدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِهَا إِنْ كَانَ قَمِيصُهُ قُدَّ مِنْ قُبُلٍ فَصَدَقَتْ وَهُوَ مِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ
Qāla Hiya Rāwadatnī `An Nafsī Wa Shahida Shāhidun Min Ahlihā In Kāna Qamīşuhu Qudda Min Qubulin Faşadaqat Wa Huwa Mina Al-Kādhibīna
12:26  He ˹Joseph˺ said,She tried to seduce me about myself.” And a witness from her family testified:If his shirt is torn from the front then she has spoken the truth, and he is of the liars.
26. Qaala hiya raawadatnee ‘an nafsee wa shahida shaahidum min ahlihaa in kaana qameesuhoo qudda min qubulin fasadaqat wa huwa minal kaazibeen
27. وَإِنْ كَانَ قَمِيصُهُ قُدَّ مِنْ دُبُرٍ فَكَذَبَتْ وَهُوَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ
Wa ‘In Kāna Qamīşuhu Qudda Min Duburin Fakadhabat Wa Huwa Mina Aş-Şādiqīna
12:27  But if his shirt is torn from the back then she has lied and he is of the truthful.”
27. Wa in kaana qameesuhoo qudda min duburin fakazabat wa huwa minas saadiqeen
28. فَلَمَّا رَأَىٰ قَمِيصَهُ قُدَّ مِنْ دُبُرٍ قَالَ إِنَّهُ مِنْ كَيْدِكُنَّ ۖ إِنَّ كَيْدَكُنَّ عَظِيمٌ
Falammā Ra’á Qamīşahu Qudda Min Duburin Qāla Innahu Min Kaydikunna Inna Kaydakunna `Ažīmun
12:28  So when he (i.e., husband) saw his ˹Joseph’s˺ shirt torn from the back he said ˹to her˺, “Indeed, it is of your (i.e., womanly) plot. Indeed, your plot is great.
28. Falammaa ra-aa qamee sahoo qudda min duburin qaala innahoo min kaidikunna inna kaidakunna ‘azeem
29. يُوسُفُ أَعْرِضْ عَنْ هَٰذَا ۚ وَاسْتَغْفِرِي لِذَنْبِكِ ۖ إِنَّكِ كُنْتِ مِنَ الْخَاطِئِينَ
Yūsufu ‘A`riđ `An Hādhā Wa Astaghfirī Lidhanbiki Innaki Kunti Mina Al-Khāţi’īna
12:29  O Joseph! turn away from this. And ˹you O wife˺! ask forgiveness for your sin. Indeed, you are of the sinful.”
29. Yoosufu a’rid ‘an haaza wastaghfiree li zanbiki innaki kunti minal khaati’een (section 3)
30. وَقَالَ نِسْوَةٌ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ امْرَأَتُ الْعَزِيزِ تُرَاوِدُ فَتَاهَا عَنْ نَفْسِهِ ۖ قَدْ شَغَفَهَا حُبًّا ۖ إِنَّا لَنَرَاهَا فِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ
Wa Qāla Niswatun  Al-Madīnati Amra’atu Al-`Azīzi Turāwidu Fatāhā `An Nafsihi Qad Shaghafahā Ĥubbāan Innā Lanarāhā Đalālin Mubīnin
12:30  And women in the city said, (i.e., gossiped)The wife of the minister is trying to seduce her slave boy about himself; indeed, he has impassioned her with love. Indeed, we surely see her in a clear error.”
30. Wa qaala niswatun fil madeenatim ra atul’Azeezi turaawidu fataahaa ‘an nafsihee qad shaghafahaa hubbaa; innaa lana raahaa fee dalaalim mubeen
31. فَلَمَّا سَمِعَتْ بِمَكْرِهِنَّ أَرْسَلَتْ إِلَيْهِنَّ وَأَعْتَدَتْ لَهُنَّ مُتَّكَأً وَآتَتْ كُلَّ وَاحِدَةٍ مِنْهُنَّ سِكِّينًا وَقَالَتِ اخْرُجْ عَلَيْهِنَّ ۖ فَلَمَّا رَأَيْنَهُ أَكْبَرْنَهُ وَقَطَّعْنَ أَيْدِيَهُنَّ وَقُلْنَ حَاشَ لِلَّهِ مَا هَٰذَا بَشَرًا إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا مَلَكٌ كَرِيمٌ
Falammā Sami`at Bimakrihinna Arsalat Ilayhinna Wa ‘A`tadat Lahunna Muttaka’an Wa ‘Ātat Kulla Wāĥidatin Minhunna Sikkīnāan Wa Qālati Akhruj `Alayhinna Falammā Ra’aynahu Akbarnahu Wa Qaţţa`naAydiyahunna Wa Qulna Ĥāsha Lillahi Hādhā Basharāan In Hādhā Illā Malakun Karīmun
12:31  So when she heard of their scheming (i.e., gossips), she sent for them and she prepared for them a banquet and she gave each one of them a knife and she said ˹to Joseph˺, “Come out before them.” Then when they saw him, they greatly admired him and cut their hands, they said,Forbid/Perfect/Great/Good is Allah, this is not a man; this is none but a noble angel.”
31. Falammaa sami’at bimak rihinna arsalat ilaihinna wa a’tadat lahunna muttaka anw wa aatat kulla waahidatim min hunna sikkeenanw wa qaala tikh ruj ‘alaihinna falammaa ra aynahooo akbarnahoo wa qatta’na aydiyahunna wa qulna haasha lillaahi maa haaza basharaa; in haazaaa illaa malakun kareem
32. قَالَتْ فَذَٰلِكُنَّ الَّذِي لُمْتُنَّنِي فِيهِ ۖ وَلَقَدْ رَاوَدْتُهُ عَنْ نَفْسِهِ فَاسْتَعْصَمَ ۖ وَلَئِنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ مَا آمُرُهُ لَيُسْجَنَنَّ وَلَيَكُونًا مِنَ الصَّاغِرِينَ
Qālat Fadhālikunna Al-Ladhī Lumtunnanī Fīhi Wa Laqad Rāwadttuhu `An Nafsihi Fāsta`şama Wa La’in Lam Yaf`al Mā Āmuruhu Layusjananna Wa Layakūnāan Mina Aş-Şāghirīna
12:32  She said, “That is the one, about him you blamed me. And certainly I tried to seduce him from himself but he saved himself, and if he does not do what I order him, he will surely be imprisoned and will certainly be of those who are disgraced.”
32. Qaalat fazaalikunnal lazee lumtunnanee feeh; wa laqad raawattuhoo ‘an nafsihee fasta’sam; wa la’il lam yaf’al maaa aamuruhoo la yusjananna wa la yakoonan minas saaghireen
33. قَالَ رَبِّ السِّجْنُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِمَّا يَدْعُونَنِي إِلَيْهِ ۖ وَإِلَّا تَصْرِفْ عَنِّي كَيْدَهُنَّ أَصْبُ إِلَيْهِنَّ وَأَكُنْ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِينَ
Qāla Rabbi As-SijnuAĥabbu Ilayya Mimmā Yad`ūnanī ‘Ilayhi Wa ‘Illā Taşrif `Annī Kaydahunna Aşbu Ilayhinna Wa ‘Akun Mina Al-Jāhilīna
12:33  He said,My Lord, the prison is dearer to me than what they invite me to. And unless You turn away their plot from me I might incline towards them and be of the ignorant.
33. Qaala rabbis sijnu ahabbu ilaiya mimma yad’oo naneee ‘ilaihi wa illaa tasrif ‘annee kaidahunna asbu ilaihinna wa akum minal jaahileen
34. فَاسْتَجَابَ لَهُ رَبُّهُ فَصَرَفَ عَنْهُ كَيْدَهُنَّ ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
Fāstajāba Lahu Rabbuhu Faşarafa `Anhu Kaydahunna Innahu Huwa As-Samī`u Al-`Alīmu
12:34  So his Lord responded to him, and turned their plot away from him. Indeed, He is All-Hearer, All-Knower.
34. Fastajaaba lahoo rabbuhoo fasarafa ‘anhu kaidahunn; innahoo huwas Samee’ul ‘Aleem (section 4)
35. ثُمَّ بَدَا لَهُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا رَأَوُا الْآيَاتِ لَيَسْجُنُنَّهُ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ
Thumma Badā Lahum Min Ba`di Ra’aw Al-‘Āyāti Layasjununnahu Ĥattá Ĥīnin
12:35  Then it appeared to them (i.e., those in charge) from after what they had seen ˹all the˺ the signs/ proofs ˹of his innocence˺, that they should surely imprison him until/for a time/ a while.
35. Summa badaa lahum min ba’di maa ra-awul Aayaati layasjununnahoo hatta heen
36. وَدَخَلَ مَعَهُ السِّجْنَ فَتَيَانِ ۖ قَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا إِنِّي أَرَانِي أَعْصِرُ خَمْرًا ۖ وَقَالَ الْآخَرُ إِنِّي أَرَانِي أَحْمِلُ فَوْقَ رَأْسِي خُبْزًا تَأْكُلُ الطَّيْرُ مِنْهُ ۖ نَبِّئْنَا بِتَأْوِيلِهِ ۖ إِنَّا نَرَاكَ مِنَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ
Wa Dakhala Ma`ahu As-Sijna Fatayāni Qāla Aĥaduhumā Innī Arānī ‘A`şiru Khamrāan Wa Qāla Al-‘ĀkharuInnī Arānī Aĥmilu Fawqa Ra’sī Khubzāan Ta’kulu Aţ-Ţayru Minhu Nabbi’nā Bita’wīlihi ‘Innā Narāka Mina Al-Muĥsinīna
12:36  And two young men entered with him (i.e., Joseph) in the prison. One of them said, “Indeed, I see myself ˹in a dream˺ pressing wine.” And the other said,Indeed, I see myself ˹in a dream˺, I am carrying bread over my head, the birds were eating from it. Inform us of its interpretation; indeed, we see you of the good-doers.”
36. Wa dakhala ma’a hussijna fata-yaan; qaala ahaduhumaaa inneee araaneee a’siru khamranw wa qaalal aakharu inneee araaneee ahmilu fawqa ra’see khubzan ta’kulut tairu minhu; nabbi’naa bi ta’weelih; innaa naraaka minal muhsineen
37. قَالَ لَا يَأْتِيكُمَا طَعَامٌ تُرْزَقَانِهِ إِلَّا نَبَّأْتُكُمَا بِتَأْوِيلِهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَأْتِيَكُمَا ۚ ذَٰلِكُمَا مِمَّا عَلَّمَنِي رَبِّي ۚ إِنِّي تَرَكْتُ مِلَّةَ قَوْمٍ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَهُمْ بِالْآخِرَةِ هُمْ كَافِرُونَ
Qāla Ya’tīkumā Ţa`āmun Turzaqānihi Illā Nabba’tukumā Bita’wīlihi Qabla An Ya’tiyakumā Dhālikumā Mimmā `Allamanī Rabbī Innī Taraktu Millata Qawmin  Yu’uminūna Bil-Lahi Wa Hum Bil-‘Ākhirati Hum Kāfirūna
12:37  He ˹Joseph˺ said, “The food you are provided with will not come to you except I will inform you of its interpretation, before that it comes to you. That is of/from what my Lord has taught me. Indeed, I have left the religion of a people who do not believe in Allah, and they in the Hereafter they are disbelievers.
37. Qaala laa ya’teekumaa ta’aamun turzaqaaniheee illaa nabba’tukumaa bi ta’weelihee; qabla any ya’ti yakumaa; zaalikumaa mimmaa ‘allamanee rabbee; innee taraktu millata qawmil laa yu’minoona billaahi wahum bil aakhirati hum kaafiroon
38. وَاتَّبَعْتُ مِلَّةَ آبَائِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ ۚ مَا كَانَ لَنَا أَنْ نُشْرِكَ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ فَضْلِ اللَّهِ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى النَّاسِ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَشْكُرُونَ
Wa Attaba`tu Millata ‘Ābā’ī Ibrāhīma Wa ‘Isĥāqa Wa Ya`qūba Kāna Lanā An Nushrika Bil-Lahi Min Shay’in Dhālika Min Fađli Al-Lahi `Alaynā Wa `Alá An-Nāsi Wa LakinnaAkthara An-Nāsi Yashkurūna
12:38  And I follow the religion of my forefathers, Abraham, and Isaac and Jacob. It is not ˹right˺ for us that we associate any thing with Allah. That is from the Grace of Allah upon us, and upon the mankind but most of the men/people are not grateful.
38. Wattaba’tu millata aabaaa’eee Ibraaheema wa Ishaaqa wa Ya’qoob; maa kaana lanaaa an nushrika billaahi min shai’; zaalikamin fadlil laahi ‘alainaa wa ‘alan naasi wa laakinna aksaran naasi laa yashkuroon
39. يَا صَاحِبَيِ السِّجْنِ أَأَرْبَابٌ مُتَفَرِّقُونَ خَيْرٌ أَمِ اللَّهُ الْوَاحِدُ الْقَهَّارُ
Yā Şāĥibayi As-SijniA’arbābun Mutafarriqūna Khayrun Ami Al-Lahu Al-Wāĥidu Al-Qahhāru
12:39  O my two companions of the prison! Are different lords better or Allah, the One, the Irresistible/ the Supreme?
39. Yaa saahibayis sijni ‘a-arbaabum mutafarriqoona khayrun amil laahul waahidul qahhaar
40. مَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِهِ إِلَّا أَسْمَاءً سَمَّيْتُمُوهَا أَنْتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُمْ مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ بِهَا مِنْ سُلْطَانٍ ۚ إِنِ الْحُكْمُ إِلَّا لِلَّهِ ۚ أَمَرَ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا إِيَّاهُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ الدِّينُ الْقَيِّمُ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
Ta`budūna Min Dūnihi Illā ‘Asmā’an Sammaytumūhā Antum Wa ‘Ābā’uukum Mā Anzala Al-Lahu Bihā Min Sulţānin Ini Al-Ĥukmu ‘Illā Lillahi Amara Allā Ta`budū ‘Illā Īyāhu Dhālika Ad-Dīnu Al-Qayyimu Wa LakinnaAkthara An-Nāsi Ya`lamūna
12:40 You worship from besides Him nothing but mere names which you have named, you and your forefathers, Allah has not sent down any authority for it. The command is for none but for Allah. He has commanded that you worship none but Him Alone. That is the right/upright religion, but most the men do not know.
40. Maa  ta’budoona min doonihee illaaa asmaaa’an sam maitumoohaaa antum wa aabaaa’ukum maaa anzalal laahu bihaa min sultan; inilhukmu illaa lillaah; amara allaa ta’budooo illaaa iyyaah; zaalikad deenul qaiyimu wa laakinna aksaran naasi laa ya’lamoon
41. يَا صَاحِبَيِ السِّجْنِ أَمَّا أَحَدُكُمَا فَيَسْقِي رَبَّهُ خَمْرًا ۖ وَأَمَّا الْآخَرُ فَيُصْلَبُ فَتَأْكُلُ الطَّيْرُ مِنْ رَأْسِهِ ۚ قُضِيَ الْأَمْرُ الَّذِي فِيهِ تَسْتَفْتِيَانِ
Yā Şāĥibayi As-Sijni Ammā Aĥadukumā Fayasqī Rabbahu Khamrāan Wa ‘Ammā Al-‘Ākharu Fayuşlabu Fata’kulu Aţ-Ţayru Min Ra’sihi Quđiya Al-‘Amru Al-Ladhī Fīhi Tastaftiyāni
12:41 O my two companions of the prison! As for one of you he will give his master wine to drink; and as for the other, he will be crucified, and the birds will eat from his head. The matter the one/that about which you both inquire/ d has been decreed/decided.”
41. Yaa saahibayis sijni ammaaa ahadukumaa fa yasqee rabbahoo khamranw wa ammal aakharu fa yuslabu fata’kulut tairu mir ra’sih; qudiyal amrul lazee feehi tastaftiyaan
42. وَقَالَ لِلَّذِي ظَنَّ أَنَّهُ نَاجٍ مِنْهُمَا اذْكُرْنِي عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ فَأَنْسَاهُ الشَّيْطَانُ ذِكْرَ رَبِّهِ فَلَبِثَ فِي السِّجْنِ بِضْعَ سِنِينَ
Wa Qāla Lilladhī Žanna Annahu Nājin Minhumā Adhkurnī `Inda Rabbika Fa’ansāhu Ash-Shayţānu Dhikra Rabbihi Falabitha Fī As-Sijni Biđ`a Sinīna
12:42  And he said to the one whom he thought/knew that he would be saved/rescued/ survive of both of them,Mention me to your master.” But the Satan made him forget to mention ˹Joseph˺ to his master, so he (i.e., Joseph) remained in the prison for several years.
42. Wa qaala lillazee zanna annahoo najim minhumaz kurnee ‘inda rabbika fa-ansaahush Shaitaanu zikra Rabbihee falabisa fis sijni bid’a sineen (section 5)
43. وَقَالَ الْمَلِكُ إِنِّي أَرَىٰ سَبْعَ بَقَرَاتٍ سِمَانٍ يَأْكُلُهُنَّ سَبْعٌ عِجَافٌ وَسَبْعَ سُنْبُلَاتٍ خُضْرٍ وَأُخَرَ يَابِسَاتٍ ۖ يَا أَيُّهَا الْمَلَأُ أَفْتُونِي فِي رُؤْيَايَ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ لِلرُّؤْيَا تَعْبُرُونَ
Wa Qāla Al-MalikuInnī Ará Sab`a Baqarātin Simānin Ya’kuluhunna Sab`un `Ijāfun Wa Sab`a Sunbulātin Khuđrin Wa ‘Ukhara Yā Bisātin Yā ‘Ayyuhā Al-Mala’uAftūnī Ru’uyā YaIn Kuntum Lilrru’uyā Ta`burūna
12:43 And ˹one day˺ the king said, “Indeed, I have seen ˹in a dream˺ seven fat cows, eating them/ eaten up by seven lean/skinny ones, and seven green ears/spikes ˹of grain˺, and others dry. O chiefs! Explain to me about my dream if you can interpret dreams.”

43. Wa qaalal maliku inneee araa sab’a baqaraatin simaaniny ya’kuluhunna sab’un ‘ijaafunw wa sab’a sumbulaatin khudrinw wa ukhara yaabisaat; yaaa ayuhal mala-u aftoonee fee ru’yaaya in kuntum lirru’yaa ta’buroon
44. قَالُوا أَضْغَاثُ أَحْلَامٍ ۖ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِتَأْوِيلِ الْأَحْلَامِ بِعَالِمِينَ
Qālū Ađghāthu Aĥlāmin Wa Mā Naĥnu Bita’wīli Al-‘Aĥlāmi Bi`ālimīna
12:44  They said, “˹these are˺ confused dreams, and we are not learned in the interpretation of ˹such˺ dreams .”
44. Qaalooo adghaasu ahlaa minw wa maa nahnu bi ta’weelil ahlaami bi’aalimeen
45. وَقَالَ الَّذِي نَجَا مِنْهُمَا وَادَّكَرَ بَعْدَ أُمَّةٍ أَنَا أُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِتَأْوِيلِهِ فَأَرْسِلُونِ
Wa Qāla Al-Ladhī Najā Minhumā Wa Aiddakara Ba`daUmmatin Anā Unabbi’ukum Bita’wīlihi Fa’arsilūni
12:45  But the one who was saved of the two (i.e., prisoners) and remembered ˹Joseph˺ after a time said, “I will inform you of its interpretation, so send me forth.”
45. Wa qaalal lazee najaa minhumaa waddakara ba’da ummatin ana unabbi’ukum bi ta’weelihee fa-arsiloon
46. يُوسُفُ أَيُّهَا الصِّدِّيقُ أَفْتِنَا فِي سَبْعِ بَقَرَاتٍ سِمَانٍ يَأْكُلُهُنَّ سَبْعٌ عِجَافٌ وَسَبْعِ سُنْبُلَاتٍ خُضْرٍ وَأُخَرَ يَابِسَاتٍ لَعَلِّي أَرْجِعُ إِلَى النَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ
Yūsufu Ayyuhā Aş-ŞiddīquAftinā Sab`i Baqarātin Simānin Ya’kuluhunna Sab`un `Ijāfun Wa Sab`i Sunbulātin Khuđrin Wa ‘Ukhara Yā Bisātin La`allī Arji`u Ilá An-Nāsi La`allahum Ya`lamūna
12:46 ˹He said,˺ Joseph, O the truthful one! Explain to us about ˹the dream of˺ seven fat cows eaten up by seven lean/skinny ones, and seven green ears/spikes ˹of grain˺, and others dry, so that I may return to the people so that they may ˹come to˺ know.”
46. Yoosufu ayyuhas siddeequ aftinaa fee sab’i baqaraatin simaaniny ya’kuluhunna sab’un ‘ijaafunw wa sabi’i sumbulaatin khudrinw wa ukhara yaabisaatil la’alleee arji’u ilan naasi la’allahum ya’lamoon
47. قَالَ تَزْرَعُونَ سَبْعَ سِنِينَ دَأَبًا فَمَا حَصَدْتُمْ فَذَرُوهُ فِي سُنْبُلِهِ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا مِمَّا تَأْكُلُونَ
Qāla Tazra`ūna Sab`a Sinīna Da’abāan Famā Ĥaşadtum Fadharūhu Sunbulihi Illā Qalīlāan Mimmā Ta’kulūna
12:47  He ˹Joseph˺ said, “You will sow/plant ˹grain˺ for seven years, as usual, and that which you harvest so leave it (i.e., store) in its ears/spikes except a little from which you will eat.
47. Qaala tazra’oona sab’a sineena da aban famaa hasattum fazaroohu fee sumbu liheee illaa qaleelam mimmaa ta’kuloon
48. ثُمَّ يَأْتِي مِنْ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ سَبْعٌ شِدَادٌ يَأْكُلْنَ مَا قَدَّمْتُمْ لَهُنَّ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا مِمَّا تُحْصِنُونَ
Thumma Ya’tī Min Ba`di Dhālika Sab`un Shidādun Ya’kulna Qaddamtum Lahunna Illā Qalīlāan Mimmā Tuĥşinūna
12:48  Then from after that will come seven hard/ difficult/ tough years / years of hardship which will consume what you advanced/saved for them, except a little of what/from which you will store.
48. Thumma ya’tee mim ba’di zaalika sab’un shidaaduny ya’kulna maa qaddamtum lahunna illaa qaleelam mimma tuhsinoon
49. ثُمَّ يَأْتِي مِنْ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ عَامٌ فِيهِ يُغَاثُ النَّاسُ وَفِيهِ يَعْصِرُونَ
Thumma Ya’tī Min Ba`di Dhālika `Āmun Fīhi Yughāthu An-Nāsu Wa Fīhi Ya`şirūna
12:49  Then from after that will come a year in which the people will be given abundant rain and in it they will press.”
49. Thumma ya’tee mim ba’di zalika ‘aamun feehi yughaa sun naasu wa feehi ya’siroon (section 6)
50. وَقَالَ الْمَلِكُ ائْتُونِي بِهِ ۖ فَلَمَّا جَاءَهُ الرَّسُولُ قَالَ ارْجِعْ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ مَا بَالُ النِّسْوَةِ اللَّاتِي قَطَّعْنَ أَيْدِيَهُنَّ ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّي بِكَيْدِهِنَّ عَلِيمٌ
Wa Qāla Al-Maliku A’tūnī Bihi Falammā Jā’ahu Ar-Rasūlu Qāla Arji`Ilá Rabbika Fās’alhu Bālu An-Niswati Al-Lātī Qaţţa`naAydiyahunna Inna Rabbī Bikaydihinna `Alīmun
12:50  And the king said,Bring him to me.” But when the messenger came to him, he ˹Joseph˺ said,Return to your lord, and ask him what is the case of the women who cut their hands. Indeed, my Lord is All-Knower of their plot.”
50. Wa qaalal maliku’toonee bihee falammaa jaaa’ahur rasoolu qaalar-ji ilaa rabbika fas’alhu maa baalun niswatil laatee qatta’na aydiyahunn; inna Rabbee bikaidihinna ‘Aleem

12. Surah Yusuf

51. قَالَ مَا خَطْبُكُنَّ إِذْ رَاوَدْتُنَّ يُوسُفَ عَنْ نَفْسِهِ ۚ قُلْنَ حَاشَ لِلَّهِ مَا عَلِمْنَا عَلَيْهِ مِنْ سُوءٍ ۚ قَالَتِ امْرَأَتُ الْعَزِيزِ الْآنَ حَصْحَصَ الْحَقُّ أَنَا رَاوَدْتُهُ عَنْ نَفْسِهِ وَإِنَّهُ لَمِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ
Qāla Mā Khaţbukunna Idh Rāwadttunna Yūsufa `An Nafsihi Qulna Ĥāsha Lillahi `Alimnā `Alayhi Min Sū’in Qālati Amra’atu Al-`Azīzi Al-‘Āna Ĥaşĥaşa Al-ĤaqquAnā Rāwadttuhu `An Nafsihi Wa ‘Innahu Lamina Aş-Şādiqīna
12:51  He ˹king˺ said ˹to the women˺,What was your affair/ matter when you tried to seduce Joseph from himself?” They ˹the women˺ said, Allah Forbid!” We do not know any evil about him.” The wife of minister said, “Now the truth is/has manifest/come to light. I tried to seduce him from himself, and indeed, he is surely of the truthful.

We know nothing any/of evil about him.
51. Qaala maa khatbukunna iz raawattunna Yoosufa ‘annafsih; qulna haasha lillaahi maa ‘alimnaa ‘alaihi min sooo’; qaalatim ra atul ‘Azeezil ‘aana hashasal haqq, ana raawat tuhoo ‘an nafsihee wa innahoo laminas saadiqeen
52. ذَٰلِكَ لِيَعْلَمَ أَنِّي لَمْ أَخُنْهُ بِالْغَيْبِ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِي كَيْدَ الْخَائِنِينَ
Dhālika Liya`lamaAnnī Lam Akhunhu Bil-Ghaybi Wa ‘Anna Al-Laha Yahdī Kayda Al-Khā’inīna
12:52 so that he may know that I did not betray him in secret, and that Allah does not guide the plan of the betrayers.
52. Zaalika liya’lama annee lam akhunhu bilghaibi wa annal laaha laa yahdee kaidal khaaa’ineen (End Juz 12)
53. وَمَا أُبَرِّئُ نَفْسِي ۚ إِنَّ النَّفْسَ لَأَمَّارَةٌ بِالسُّوءِ إِلَّا مَا رَحِمَ رَبِّي ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّي غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ
Wa Mā ‘Ubarri’u Nafsī Inna An-Nafsa La’ammāratun Bis-Sū’i Illā Raĥima Rabbī ‘Inna Rabbī Ghafūrun Raĥīmun
12:53  “And I do not free myself from blame. Indeed, the soul is a certain enjoiner of evil, unless that my Lord bestows/shows Mercy. Indeed, my Lord is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
53. Wa maa ubarri’u nafsee; innan nafsa la ammaaratum bissooo’i illaa maa rahima Rabbee; inna Rabbee Ghafoorur Raheem
54. وَقَالَ الْمَلِكُ ائْتُونِي بِهِ أَسْتَخْلِصْهُ لِنَفْسِي ۖ فَلَمَّا كَلَّمَهُ قَالَ إِنَّكَ الْيَوْمَ لَدَيْنَا مَكِينٌ أَمِينٌ
Wa Qāla Al-Maliku A’tūnī Bihi Astakhlişhu Linafsī Falammā Kallamahu Qāla Innaka Al-Yawma Ladaynā Makīnun Amīnun
12:54  And the king said,Bring him to me.” I will select/ employ him for myself.” Then when he spoke to him, he (i.e., king) said,Indeed, today you are firmly established/ highly positioned and fully trusted/ secured with us.”
54. Wa qaalal maliku’ toonee biheee astakhlishu linafsee falammaa kallamahoo qaala innakal yawma ladainaa makeenun ameen
55. قَالَ اجْعَلْنِي عَلَىٰ خَزَائِنِ الْأَرْضِ ۖ إِنِّي حَفِيظٌ عَلِيمٌ
Qāla Aj`alnī `Alá Khazā’ini Al-‘ArđiInnī Ĥafīžun `Alīmun
12:55  He ˹Joseph˺ said,Appoint me over the treasuries (i.e., storehouses) of the land. Indeed, I will be a knowing/ knowledgeable guardian.”
55. Qaalaj ‘alnee ‘alaa khazaaa’inil ardi innee hafeezun ‘aleem
56. وَكَذَٰلِكَ مَكَّنَّا لِيُوسُفَ فِي الْأَرْضِ يَتَبَوَّأُ مِنْهَا حَيْثُ يَشَاءُ ۚ نُصِيبُ بِرَحْمَتِنَا مَنْ نَشَاءُ ۖ وَلَا نُضِيعُ أَجْرَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ
Wa Kadhalika Makkannā Liyūsufa Fī Al-‘Arđi Yatabawwa’u Minhā Ĥaythu Yashā’u Nuşību Biraĥmatinā Man Nashā’u Wa Lā Nuđī`uAjra Al-Muĥsinīna
12:56  And thus We established Joseph in the land to settle therein where ever he willed. We bestow/ shower Our Mercy on whom/ whoever We will. And We do not waste the reward of the good-doers.
56. Wa kazaalika makkannaa li Yoosufa fil ardi yatabawwa’u minhaa haisu yashaaaa’; nuseebu birahmatinaa man nashaaa’u wa laa nudee’u ajral muhsineen
57. وَلَأَجْرُ الْآخِرَةِ خَيْرٌ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَكَانُوا يَتَّقُونَ
Wa La’ajru Al-‘Ākhirati Khayrun Lilladhīna Āmanū Wa Kānū Yattaqūna
12:57  And surely the reward of the Hereafter is better for those who believe and are God conscious/ mindful ˹of Allah˺.
57. Wa la ajrul Aakhirati khairul lillazeena aamanoo wa kaanoo yattaqoon (section 7)
58. وَجَاءَ إِخْوَةُ يُوسُفَ فَدَخَلُوا عَلَيْهِ فَعَرَفَهُمْ وَهُمْ لَهُ مُنْكِرُونَ
Wa Jā’aIkhwatu Yūsufa Fadakhalū `Alayhi Fa`arafahum Wa Hum Lahu Munkirūna
12:58  And the brothers of Joseph came and they entered upon/ before him; and he recognized them, but they were unaware of him.
58. Wa jaaa’a ikhwatu Yoosufa fadakhaloo ‘alaihi fa’arafahum wa hum lahoo munkiroon
59. وَلَمَّا جَهَّزَهُمْ بِجَهَازِهِمْ قَالَ ائْتُونِي بِأَخٍ لَكُمْ مِنْ أَبِيكُمْ ۚ أَلَا تَرَوْنَ أَنِّي أُوفِي الْكَيْلَ وَأَنَا خَيْرُ الْمُنْزِلِينَ
Wa Lammā Jahhazahum Bijahāzihim Qāla A’tūnī Bi’akhin Lakum Min Abīkum Alā Tarawna Annī Ūfī Al-Kayla Wa ‘Anā Khayru Al-Munzilīna
12:59  And when he had furnished/ provided them with their supplies, he said,Bring to me a brother of yours, from your father/ father’s side. Do you not see that I give full measure, and that I am the best of the hosts?
59. Wa lammaa jahhazahum bijahaazihim qaala’ toonee bi akhil lakum min abeekum; alaa tarawna anneee oofil kaila wa ana khairul munzileen
60. فَإِنْ لَمْ تَأْتُونِي بِهِ فَلَا كَيْلَ لَكُمْ عِنْدِي وَلَا تَقْرَبُونِ
Fa’in Lam Ta’tūnī Bihi Falā Kayla Lakum `Indī Wa Lā Taqrabūni
12:60  But if you do not bring him to me ˹next time˺, then I will have no measure ˹of grain˺ for you, and you will not come near me.”
60. Fa il lam taatoonee bihee falaa kaila lakum ‘indee wa laa taqraboon
61. قَالُوا سَنُرَاوِدُ عَنْهُ أَبَاهُ وَإِنَّا لَفَاعِلُونَ
Qālū Sanurāwidu `Anhu Abāhu Wa ‘Innā Lafā`ilūna
12:61  They said,We will try to get permission for him from his father, and indeed we, surely will do ˹our best˺.”

12:61  They said,We will try to convince /ask his father for him, and indeed we, surely will do ˹our best˺.”
61. Qaaloo sanuraawidu ‘anhu abaahu wa innaa lafaa’iloon
62. وَقَالَ لِفِتْيَانِهِ اجْعَلُوا بِضَاعَتَهُمْ فِي رِحَالِهِمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَعْرِفُونَهَا إِذَا انْقَلَبُوا إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ
Wa Qāla Lifityānihi Aj`alū Biđā`atahum Fī Riĥālihim La`allahum Ya`rifūnahā ‘Idhā Anqalabū Ilá Ahlihim La`allahum Yarji`ūna
12:62  And he ˹Joseph˺ said to his servants, “Put their (i.e., the brothers) merchandise back in their saddlebags so that they may recognize/ find it when they go back to their people so that they may return.”
62. Wa qaala lifityaanihij ‘aloo bidaa’atahum fee rihaalihim la’allahum ya’rifoonahaaa izan qalabooo ilaaa ahlihim la’allahum yarji’oon
63. فَلَمَّا رَجَعُوا إِلَىٰ أَبِيهِمْ قَالُوا يَا أَبَانَا مُنِعَ مِنَّا الْكَيْلُ فَأَرْسِلْ مَعَنَا أَخَانَا نَكْتَلْ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ
Falammā Raja`ū ‘Ilá Abīhim Qālū Yā ‘Abānā Muni`a Minnā Al-Kaylu Fa’arsil Ma`anā ‘Akhānā Naktal Wa ‘Innā Lahu Laĥāfižūna
12:63  So when they (i.e., the brothers) returned to their father, they said,O our father! The measure ˹of grain˺ has been denied to us, so send our brother with us so that we will get measure. And indeed, we will surely be guardians for him.”
63. Falammaa raja’ooo ilaaa abeehim qaaloo yaaa abaanaa muni’a minnal kailu fa arsil ma’anaaa akhaanaa naktal wa innaa lahoo lahaafizoon
64. قَالَ هَلْ آمَنُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا كَمَا أَمِنْتُكُمْ عَلَىٰ أَخِيهِ مِنْ قَبْلُ ۖ فَاللَّهُ خَيْرٌ حَافِظًا ۖ وَهُوَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ
Qāla Hal Āmanukum `Alayhi Illā Kamā Amintukum `Alá Akhīhi Min Qablu Fa-Allāhu Khayrun Ĥāfižāan Wa HuwaArĥamu Ar-Rāĥimīna
12:64  He said,Should I trust you with him except as I trusted you with his brother ˹Joseph˺ from before? But Allah is the best Guardian and He is the Most Merciful of the merciful.
64. Qaala hal aamanukum ‘alaihi illaa kamaa amintukum ‘alaaa akheehi min qabl; fal laahu khairun haafizanw wa Huwa arhamur Raahimeen
65. وَلَمَّا فَتَحُوا مَتَاعَهُمْ وَجَدُوا بِضَاعَتَهُمْ رُدَّتْ إِلَيْهِمْ ۖ قَالُوا يَا أَبَانَا مَا نَبْغِي ۖ هَٰذِهِ بِضَاعَتُنَا رُدَّتْ إِلَيْنَا ۖ وَنَمِيرُ أَهْلَنَا وَنَحْفَظُ أَخَانَا وَنَزْدَادُ كَيْلَ بَعِيرٍ ۖ ذَٰلِكَ كَيْلٌ يَسِيرٌ
Wa Lammā Fataĥū Matā`ahum Wa Jadū Biđā`atahum Ruddat Ilayhim Qālū Yā ‘Abānā Nabghī Hadhihi Biđā`atunā Ruddat Ilaynā Wa NamīruAhlanā Wa NaĥfažuAkhānā Wa Nazdādu Kayla Ba`īrin Dhālika Kaylun Yasīrun
12:65  And when they opened their baggage/ bags, they found their merchandise returned to them. They said,O our father! What ˹more˺ could we desire/ ask for? This is our merchandise returned to us. And we will get provision/ food for our family, and we will protect our brother and get an increase/ extra camel’s load of measure (i.e., grain). That is an easy measurement.”
65. Wa lammaa fatahoo mataa ‘ahum wajadoo bidaa’atahum ruddat ilaihim qaaloo yaaa abaanaa maa nabghee; haazihee bida ‘atunaa ruddat ilainaa wa nameeru ahlanaa wa nahfazu akhaanaa wa nazdaadu kaila ba’eer; zaalika kailuny yaseer
66. قَالَ لَنْ أُرْسِلَهُ مَعَكُمْ حَتَّىٰ تُؤْتُونِ مَوْثِقًا مِنَ اللَّهِ لَتَأْتُنَّنِي بِهِ إِلَّا أَنْ يُحَاطَ بِكُمْ ۖ فَلَمَّا آتَوْهُ مَوْثِقَهُمْ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ مَا نَقُولُ وَكِيلٌ
Qāla Lan Ursilahu Ma`akum Ĥattá Tu’utūni Mawthiqāan Mina Al-Lahi Lata’tunanī Bihi Illā An Yuĥāţa Bikum Falammā Ātawhu Mawthiqahum Qāla Al-Lahu `Alá Naqūlu Wa Kīlun
12:66  He ˹Jacob˺ said, “I will not send him with you until you give to me a promise by Allah that you will surely bring him back to me  unless that you are surrounded.” And when they had given him their promise, he said, “Allah is a Guardian over what we say.
66. Qaala lan ursilahoo ma’akum hattaa tu’tooni mawsiqam minal laahee lataa tunnanee biheee illaaa ai yuhaata bikum falammaaa aatawhu mawsiqahum qaalal laahu ‘alaa maa naqoolu Wakeel
67. وَقَالَ يَا بَنِيَّ لَا تَدْخُلُوا مِنْ بَابٍ وَاحِدٍ وَادْخُلُوا مِنْ أَبْوَابٍ مُتَفَرِّقَةٍ ۖ وَمَا أُغْنِي عَنْكُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ ۖ إِنِ الْحُكْمُ إِلَّا لِلَّهِ ۖ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ ۖ وَعَلَيْهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ
Wa Qāla Yā Banīya Tadkhulū Min Bābin Wāĥidin Wa Adkhulū Min Abwābin Mutafarriqatin Wa Mā ‘Ughnī `Ankum Mina Al-Lahi Min Shay’inIni Al-ĤukmuIllā Lillahi `Alayhi Tawakkaltu Wa `Alayhi Falyatawakkali Al-Mutawakkilūna
12:67 And he said, “O my sons! Do not enter ˹the city˺ from one gate, but enter from separate gates. And I can not help/ benefit you in any thing against Allah. The decision is not except with Allah, upon/in Him I put my trust and upon/in Him, let the ones who put trust put their trust.”

And I can not help/ benefit you from a thing against Allah.

upon/in Him I put my trust and let the ones who put trust put their trust upon/in Him.”
67. Wa qaala yaa baniyya laa tadkhuloo mim baabinw waa hidinw wadkhuloo min abwaabim mutafarriqah; wa maaa ughnee ‘ankum minal laahi min shai’in; inil hukmu illaa lillaahi ‘alaihi tawakkaltu wa ‘alaihi fal yatawakkalil Mutawakkiloon
68. وَلَمَّا دَخَلُوا مِنْ حَيْثُ أَمَرَهُمْ أَبُوهُمْ مَا كَانَ يُغْنِي عَنْهُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا حَاجَةً فِي نَفْسِ يَعْقُوبَ قَضَاهَا ۚ وَإِنَّهُ لَذُو عِلْمٍ لِمَا عَلَّمْنَاهُ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
Wa Lammā Dakhalū Min Ĥaythu Amarahum Abūhum  Kāna Yughnī `Anhum Mina Al-Lahi Min Shay’in Illā Ĥājatan Nafsi Ya`qūba Qađāhā Wa ‘Innahu Ladhū `Ilmin Limā `Allamnāhu Wa LakinnaAkthara An-Nāsi Ya`lamūna
12:68  And when they entered from where their father ordered them, it did not benefit/help them against Allah any/from a thing but it was just a need/desire of Jacob’s soul which he carried out. And indeed, he was a possessor of knowledge because We had taught him, but most of the people do not know.
68. Wa lammaa dakhaloo min haisu amarahum aboohum maa kaana yughnee ‘anhum minal laahi min shai’in illaa haajatan fee nafsi Ya’qooba qadaahaa; wa innahoo lazoo ‘ilmil limaa ‘allamnaahu wa laakinna aksaran naasi laa ya’lamoon (section 8)
69. وَلَمَّا دَخَلُوا عَلَىٰ يُوسُفَ آوَىٰ إِلَيْهِ أَخَاهُ ۖ قَالَ إِنِّي أَنَا أَخُوكَ فَلَا تَبْتَئِسْ بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
Wa Lammā Dakhalū `Alá Yūsufa Āwá Ilayhi Akhāhu Qāla Innī Anā Akhūka Falā Tabta’is Bimā Kānū Ya`malūna
12:69  And when they entered upon Joseph, he took his brother ˹Benjamin˺ to himself. He ˹Joseph˺ said,Indeed, I am your brother so do not grieve for what they used/ they have been to do/ doing.”
69. Wa lammaa dakhaloo ‘alaa Yoosufa aawaaa ilaihi akhaahu qaala inneee ana akhooka falaa tabta’is bimaa kaanoo ya’maloon
70. فَلَمَّا جَهَّزَهُمْ بِجَهَازِهِمْ جَعَلَ السِّقَايَةَ فِي رَحْلِ أَخِيهِ ثُمَّ أَذَّنَ مُؤَذِّنٌ أَيَّتُهَا الْعِيرُ إِنَّكُمْ لَسَارِقُونَ
Falammā Jahhazahum Bijahāzihim Ja`ala As-Siqāyata Raĥli Akhīhi Thumma Adhdhana Mu’uadhdhinunAyyatuhā Al-`ĪruInnakum Lasāriqūna
12:70  So when he had furnished/ provided them with their supplies, he put the ˹royal˺ drinking cup in his brother’s bag. Then an announcer called out O you in the caravan! Indeed, you surely are thieves.”
70. Falammaa jahhazahum bijahaazihim ja’alas siqaayata fee rahli akheehi summa azzana mu’azzinun ayyatuhal’eeru innakum lasaariqoon
71. قَالُوا وَأَقْبَلُوا عَلَيْهِمْ مَاذَا تَفْقِدُونَ
Qālū Wa ‘Aqbalū `Alayhim Mādhā Tafqidūna
12:71  They said turning towards them, “What have you lost?”
71. Qaaloo wa aqbaloo ‘alaihim maazaa tafqidoon
72. قَالُوا نَفْقِدُ صُوَاعَ الْمَلِكِ وَلِمَنْ جَاءَ بِهِ حِمْلُ بَعِيرٍ وَأَنَا بِهِ زَعِيمٌ
Qālū Nafqidu Şuwā`a Al-Maliki Wa Liman Jā’a Bihi Ĥimlu Ba`īrin Wa ‘Anā Bihi Za`īmun
12:72  They said, “We are missing the king’s cup. And for whoever brings it will be ˹rewarded˺ a camel load ˹of grain˺, and I guarantee for it.”
72. Qaaloo nafqidu suwaa’al maliki wa liman jaaa’a bihee himlu ba’eerinw wa ana bihee za’eem

73. قَالُوا تَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمْ مَا جِئْنَا لِنُفْسِدَ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَمَا كُنَّا سَارِقِينَ
Qālū Ta-Allāhi Laqad `Alimtum  Ji’nā Linufsida  Al-‘Arđi Wa Mā Kunnā Sāriqīna
12:73  They (i.e., Joseph’s brothers) said, “By Allah! certainly you know, that we did not come to cause corruption in the land, and nor are we thieves.”
73. Qaaloo tallaahi laqad ‘alimtum maa ji’na linufsida fil ardi wa maa kunnaa saariqeen
74. قَالُوا فَمَا جَزَاؤُهُ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ كَاذِبِينَ
Qālū Famā Jazā’uuhu ‘In Kuntum Kādhibīna
12:74 They (i.e., Joseph’s men) said,Then what should be its recompense/ penalty (i.e., penalty), if you are liars.”
74. Qaaloo famaa jazaaa’u hooo in kuntum kaazibeen
75. قَالُوا جَزَاؤُهُ مَنْ وُجِدَ فِي رَحْلِهِ فَهُوَ جَزَاؤُهُ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الظَّالِمِينَ
Qālū Jazā’uuhu Man Wujida Raĥlihi Fahuwa Jazā’uuhu Kadhālika Najzī Až-Žālimīna
12:75 They (i.e., Joseph’s brothers) said, “Its recompense is that he in whose bag it (i.e., cup) is found, then he will be his recompense (i.e., by enslavement/ enslaving the thief). Thus/ Like that we recompense/ punish (i.e., punish) the wrongdoers.”
75. Qaaloo jazaaa’uhoo manw wujida fee rahlihee fahuwa jazaaa’uh; kazaalika najziz zaalimeen
76. فَبَدَأَ بِأَوْعِيَتِهِمْ قَبْلَ وِعَاءِ أَخِيهِ ثُمَّ اسْتَخْرَجَهَا مِنْ وِعَاءِ أَخِيهِ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ كِدْنَا لِيُوسُفَ ۖ مَا كَانَ لِيَأْخُذَ أَخَاهُ فِي دِينِ الْمَلِكِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ ۚ نَرْفَعُ دَرَجَاتٍ مَنْ نَشَاءُ ۗ وَفَوْقَ كُلِّ ذِي عِلْمٍ عَلِيمٌ
Fabada’a Bi’aw`iyatihim Qabla Wi`ā’iAkhīhi Thumma Astakhrajahā Min Wi`ā’i Akhīhi Kadhālika Kidnā Liyūsufa Kāna Liya’khudhaAkhāhu Dīni Al-MalikiIllā An Yashā’a Al-Lahu Narfa`u Darajātin Man Nashā’u Wa Fawqa Kulli Dhī `Ilmin `Alīmun
12:76  So he began ˹the search˺ with their bags before the bag of his brother (i.e., Benjamin); then he brought it out from his brother’s bag. Thus/ Like that/ Like This did We planned for Joseph. He could not take his brother by the king’s law, except/ but that Allah had so willed. We raise/ elevate in ranks whom We will, but over every possessor of knowledge is the All-Knower.
76. Fabada-a bi-aw’iyatihim qabla wi’aaa’i akheehi summas takhrajahaa minw wi ‘aaa’i akheeh; kazaalika kidnaa li Yoosuf; maa kaana liyaakhuza akhaahu fee deenil maliki illaaa any yashaaa’al laah; narfa’u darajaatim man nashaaa’; wa fawqa kulli zee ‘ilmin ‘Aleem
77. قَالُوا إِنْ يَسْرِقْ فَقَدْ سَرَقَ أَخٌ لَهُ مِنْ قَبْلُ ۚ فَأَسَرَّهَا يُوسُفُ فِي نَفْسِهِ وَلَمْ يُبْدِهَا لَهُمْ ۚ قَالَ أَنْتُمْ شَرٌّ مَكَانًا ۖ وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا تَصِفُونَ
Qālū In Yasriq Faqad Saraqa Akhun Lahu Min Qablu Fa’asarrahā Yūsufu Nafsihi Wa Lam Yubdihā Lahum QālaAntum Sharrun Makānāan Wa AllāhuA`lamu Bimā Taşifūna
12:77  They (i.e., Joseph’s brothers) said,If he steals/ stoleThen verily/ certainly a brother of his (i.e., Joseph) stole/ has stolen from before.” But Joseph kept it secret within himself, and did not reveal it to them. He said, “You are the worse in position, and Allah knows best of what you describe/claim.”
77. Qaaloo iny yasriq faqad saraqa akhul lahoo min qabl; fa asarrahaa Yoosufu fee nafsihee wa lam yubdihaa lahum; qaala antum sharrum makaananw wallaahu a’lamu bimaa tasifoon
78. قَالُوا يَا أَيُّهَا الْعَزِيزُ إِنَّ لَهُ أَبًا شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا فَخُذْ أَحَدَنَا مَكَانَهُ ۖ إِنَّا نَرَاكَ مِنَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ
Qālū Yā ‘Ayyuhā Al-`AzīzuInna Lahu Abāan Shaykhāan Kabīrāan Fakhudh Aĥadanā Makānahu Innā Narāka Mina Al-Muĥsinīna
12:78  They (i.e., Joseph’s brothers) said, O Minister! Indeed, he has a very old father, so take one of us in his place. Indeed, we see you of the good-doers.
78. Qaaloo yaaa ayyuhal ‘Azeezu inna lahooo aban shaikhan kabeeran fakhuz ahadanaa makaanahoo innaa naraaka minal muhsineen
79. قَالَ مَعَاذَ اللَّهِ أَنْ نَأْخُذَ إِلَّا مَنْ وَجَدْنَا مَتَاعَنَا عِنْدَهُ إِنَّا إِذًا لَظَالِمُونَ
Qāla Ma`ādha Al-Lahi ‘An Na’khudha Illā Man Wajadnā Matā`anā `Indahu Innā Idhāan Lažālimūna
12:79  He ˹Joseph˺ said,Allah forbid that we should take except/ other than ˹the one˺ with whom we found our possession/ property (i.e., cup). Indeed, we then surely would be wrongdoers.”
79. Qaala ma’aazal laahi an naakhuza illaa manw wajadnaa mataa’anaa ‘indahoo innaaa izal lazaalimoon (section 9)
80. فَلَمَّا اسْتَيْأَسُوا مِنْهُ خَلَصُوا نَجِيًّا ۖ قَالَ كَبِيرُهُمْ أَلَمْ تَعْلَمُوا أَنَّ أَبَاكُمْ قَدْ أَخَذَ عَلَيْكُمْ مَوْثِقًا مِنَ اللَّهِ وَمِنْ قَبْلُ مَا فَرَّطْتُمْ فِي يُوسُفَ ۖ فَلَنْ أَبْرَحَ الْأَرْضَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْذَنَ لِي أَبِي أَوْ يَحْكُمَ اللَّهُ لِي ۖ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ الْحَاكِمِينَ
Falammā Astay’asū Minhu Khalaşū Najīyāan Qāla Kabīruhum Alam Ta`lamū ‘Anna Abākum Qad Akhadha `Alaykum Mawthiqāan Mina Al-Lahi Wa Min Qablu Farraţtum Yūsufa Falan Abraĥa Al-‘Arđa Ĥattá Ya’dhana Lī Abī Aw Yaĥkuma Al-Lahu Wa Huwa Khayru Al-Ĥākimīna
12:80  So when they lost all hope of him, they withdrew/ they isolated themselves in private consultation. The eldest among them said, “Do you not know that your father, indeed has taken a promise by Allah from you, and from before that you failed concerning Joseph? So I will not leave the land until my father permits/ allows me or Allah decides for me, and He is the Best of the judges.
80. Falammas tay’asoo minhu khalasoo najiyyan qaala kabeeruhum alam ta’lamoon anna abaakum qad akhaza ‘alaikum mawsiqam minal laahi wa min qablu maa farrattum fee Yoosufa falan abrahal arda hattaa yaazana leee abeee aw yahkumal laahu lee wa huwa khairul haakimeen
81. ارْجِعُوا إِلَىٰ أَبِيكُمْ فَقُولُوا يَا أَبَانَا إِنَّ ابْنَكَ سَرَقَ وَمَا شَهِدْنَا إِلَّا بِمَا عَلِمْنَا وَمَا كُنَّا لِلْغَيْبِ حَافِظِينَ
Arji`ū ‘Ilá Abīkum Faqūlū Yā ‘Abānā Inna Abnaka Saraqa Wa Mā Shahidnā Illā Bimā `Alimnā Wa Mā Kunnā Lilghaybi Ĥāfižīna
12:81  Return to your father ˹Jacob˺ and say,O our father! Indeed, your son has stolen, and we did not testify except of what we knew. And we are not guardians of the unseen.

And we could not be guardians of the unseen.
81. Irji’ooo ilaaa abeekum faqooloo yaaa abaanaaa innab naka saraq; wa maa shahidnaaa illaa bimaa ‘alimnaa wa maa kunnaa lilghaibi haafizeen
82. وَاسْأَلِ الْقَرْيَةَ الَّتِي كُنَّا فِيهَا وَالْعِيرَ الَّتِي أَقْبَلْنَا فِيهَا ۖ وَإِنَّا لَصَادِقُونَ
Wa As’ali Al-Qaryata Allatī Kunnā Fīhā Wa Al-`Īra Allatī Aqbalnā Fīhā Wa ‘Innā Laşādiqūna
12:82  And ask ˹the people of˺ the city where we were in, and the caravan in which we returned. And indeed, we surely are truthful/ telling the truth.”
82. Was’alil qaryatal latee kunnaa feehaa wal’eeral lateee aqbalnaa feehaa wa innaa lasaadiqoon
83. قَالَ بَلْ سَوَّلَتْ لَكُمْ أَنْفُسُكُمْ أَمْرًا ۖ فَصَبْرٌ جَمِيلٌ ۖ عَسَى اللَّهُ أَنْ يَأْتِيَنِي بِهِمْ جَمِيعًا ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ
Qāla Bal Sawwalat Lakum Anfusukum Amrāan Faşabrun Jamīlun`Asá Al-Lahu An Ya’tiyanī Bihim Jamī`āanInnahu Huwa Al-`Alīmu Al-Ĥakīmu
12:83  He ˹Jacob˺ said, “No! Your souls have tempted you to do something, so patience is beautiful ˹for me˺. Perhaps that Allah will bring them all to me. Indeed, He is the All-Knower, All-Wise.
83. Qaala bal sawwalat lakum anfusukum amran fasabrun jameelun ‘asal laahu any yaa tiyanee bihim jamee’aa; innahoo Huwal ‘Aleemul Hakeem
84. وَتَوَلَّىٰ عَنْهُمْ وَقَالَ يَا أَسَفَىٰ عَلَىٰ يُوسُفَ وَابْيَضَّتْ عَيْنَاهُ مِنَ الْحُزْنِ فَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ
Wa Tawallá `Anhum Wa Qāla Yā ‘Asafá `Alá Yūsufa Wa Abyađđat `Aynāhu Mina Al-Ĥuzni Fahuwa Kažīmun
12:84  And he ˹Jacob˺ turned away from them and said, “Alas, my grief over Joseph!” And his eyes became white from the grief, and/for he was a suppressor ˹of grief˺.

84. Wa tawallaa ‘anhum wa qaala yaaa asafaa ‘alaa Yoosufa wabyaddat ‘aynaahu minal huzni fahuwa kazeem
85. قَالُوا تَاللَّهِ تَفْتَأُ تَذْكُرُ يُوسُفَ حَتَّىٰ تَكُونَ حَرَضًا أَوْ تَكُونَ مِنَ الْهَالِكِينَ
Qālū Ta-Allāhi Tafta’u Tadhkuru Yūsufa Ĥattá Takūna Ĥarađāan Aw Takūna Mina Al-Hālikīna
12:85  They (i.e., Joseph’s brothers) said, By Allah, you will not cease remembering Joseph until you become fatally ill/ lose your health/ ruined your health or become of those who perish/ the dead.”
85. Qaaloo tallaahi tafta’u tazkuru Yoosufa hattaa takoona haradan aw takoona minal haalikeen
86. قَالَ إِنَّمَا أَشْكُو بَثِّي وَحُزْنِي إِلَى اللَّهِ وَأَعْلَمُ مِنَ اللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
Qāla Innamā Ashkū Baththī Wa Ĥuznī ‘Ilá Al-Lahi Wa ‘A`lamu Mina Al-Lahi Ta`lamūna
12:86  He said, “I only complain of my suffering and my grief to Allah, and I know from Allah what you do not know.
86. Qaala innamaaa ashkoo bassee wa huzneee ilal laahi wa a’lamu minal laahi maa laa ta’lamoon
87. يَا بَنِيَّ اذْهَبُوا فَتَحَسَّسُوا مِنْ يُوسُفَ وَأَخِيهِ وَلَا تَيْأَسُوا مِنْ رَوْحِ اللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّهُ لَا يَيْأَسُ مِنْ رَوْحِ اللَّهِ إِلَّا الْقَوْمُ الْكَافِرُونَ
Yā Banīya Adh/habū Fataĥassasū Min Yūsufa Wa ‘Akhīhi Wa Lā Tay’asū Min Rawĥi Al-Lahi Innahu Yay’asu Min Rawĥi Al-Lahi ‘Illā Al-Qawmu Al-Kāfirūna
12:87  O my sons! Go and inquire/ search ˹diligently˺ about Joseph and his brother, and do not lose hope of the Mercy of Allah. Indeed, none loses hope of the Mercy of Allah except the disbelieving people.”
87. Yaa baniyyaz haboo fatahassasoo miny Yoosufa wa akheehi wa laa tai’asoo mir rawhil laahi innahoo laa yai’asu mir rawhil laahi illal qawmul kaafiroon
88. فَلَمَّا دَخَلُوا عَلَيْهِ قَالُوا يَا أَيُّهَا الْعَزِيزُ مَسَّنَا وَأَهْلَنَا الضُّرُّ وَجِئْنَا بِبِضَاعَةٍ مُزْجَاةٍ فَأَوْفِ لَنَا الْكَيْلَ وَتَصَدَّقْ عَلَيْنَا ۖ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَجْزِي الْمُتَصَدِّقِينَ
Falammā Dakhalū `Alayhi Qālū Yā ‘Ayyuhā Al-`Azīzu Massanā Wa ‘Ahlanā Ađ-Đurru Wa Ji’nā Bibiđā`atin Muzjāatin Fa’awfi Lanā Al-Kayla Wa Taşaddaq `Alaynā Inna Al-Laha Yajzī Al-Mutaşaddiqīna
12:88  So when they ˹Joseph’s Brothers˺ entered upon/ before him ˹Joseph˺ they said,O Minister! Hardship has touched us and our family, and we have come with goods of little value/ poor in quality, but pay to us the measure in full and be charitable to us. Indeed, Allah rewards the charitable.”
88. Falammaa dakhaloo ‘alaihi qaaloo yaaa ayyuhal ‘Azeezu massanaa wa ahlanad durru wa ji’naa bibidaa ‘timmuzjaatin fa awfi lanal kaila wa tasaddaq ‘alainaa innal laaha yajzil mutasaddiqeen
89. قَالَ هَلْ عَلِمْتُمْ مَا فَعَلْتُمْ بِيُوسُفَ وَأَخِيهِ إِذْ أَنْتُمْ جَاهِلُونَ
Qāla Hal `Alimtum  Fa`altum Biyūsufa Wa ‘Akhīhi Idh Antum Jāhilūna
12:89  He ˹Joseph˺ said,Do you know what you did with Joseph and his brother, when you were ignorant?”
89. Qaala hal ‘alimtum maa fa’altum bi Yoosufa wa akheehi iz antum jaahiloon
90. قَالُوا أَإِنَّكَ لَأَنْتَ يُوسُفُ ۖ قَالَ أَنَا يُوسُفُ وَهَٰذَا أَخِي ۖ قَدْ مَنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا ۖ إِنَّهُ مَنْ يَتَّقِ وَيَصْبِرْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ
Qālū ‘A’innaka La’anta Yūsufu Qāla Anā Yūsufu Wa Hadhā ‘Akhī Qad Manna Al-Lahu `Alaynā Innahu Man Yattaqi Wa Yaşbir Fa’inna Al-Laha Yuđī`uAjra Al-Muĥsinīna
12:90  They ˹Joseph’s Brothers˺ said ˹in shock˺,Are you indeed/ Are you really, surely you/ you, Joseph?” He said,I am Joseph and this is my brother ˹Benjamin˺! Indeed, Allah has been gracious to us. Indeed, he who is mindful ˹of Allah˺ and patient, then indeed/ certainly, Allah does not waste the reward of the good-doers.

Indeed, he who fears Allah and is patient

90. Qaaloo ‘a innaka la anta Yoosufu qaala ana Yoosufu wa haazaaa akhee qad mannal laahu ‘alainaa innahoo mai yattaqi wa yasbir fa innal laaha laa yudee’u ajral muhsineen
91. قَالُوا تَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ آثَرَكَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَإِنْ كُنَّا لَخَاطِئِينَ
Qālū Ta-Allāhi Laqad Ātharaka Al-Lahu `Alaynā Wa ‘In Kunnā Lakhāţi’īna
12:91  They ˹Joseph’s Brothers˺ said,By Allah, certainly Allah has preferred you over us and indeed, we have been sinners.”
91. Qaaloo tallaahi laqad aasarakal laahu ‘alainaa wa in kunnaa lakhaati’een
92. قَالَ لَا تَثْرِيبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْيَوْمَ ۖ يَغْفِرُ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ ۖ وَهُوَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ
Qāla Tathrība `Alaykumu Al-Yawma Yaghfiru Al-Lahu Lakum Wa HuwaArĥamu Ar-Rāĥimīna
12:92  He ˹Joseph˺ said, “There is no blame upon/ on you today. May Allah forgive you, and He is the Most Merciful of the merciful
92. Qaala laa tasreeba ‘alaikumul yawma yaghfirul laahu lakum wa Huwa arhamur raahimeen
93. اذْهَبُوا بِقَمِيصِي هَٰذَا فَأَلْقُوهُ عَلَىٰ وَجْهِ أَبِي يَأْتِ بَصِيرًا وَأْتُونِي بِأَهْلِكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
Adh/habū Biqamīşī Hādhā Fa’alqūhu `Alá Wajhi Abī Ya’ti Başīrāan Wa ‘Tūnī Bi’ahlikumAjma`īna
12:93  Go with this shirt of mine and cast it over the face of my father, he will regain his sight. And bring back to me all your family.

And bring back to me all your family.

And come back to me with all your family.
93. Izhaboo biqameesee haazaa fa alqoohu ‘alaa wajhi abee yaati baseeranw waatoonee bi ahlikum ajma’een (section 10)
94. وَلَمَّا فَصَلَتِ الْعِيرُ قَالَ أَبُوهُمْ إِنِّي لَأَجِدُ رِيحَ يُوسُفَ ۖ لَوْلَا أَنْ تُفَنِّدُونِ
Wa Lammā Faşalati Al-`Īru Qāla Abūhum Innī La’ajidu Rīĥa Yūsufa Lawlā An Tufannidūni
12:94  And when the caravan departed ˹from Egypt˺, their father said ˹to those around him˺, Indeed, I find/feel the smell/scent of Joseph, if you do not think that me/ I am weakened in mind.

94. Wa lammaa fasalatil ‘eeru qaala aboohum innee la ajidu reeha Yoosufa law laaa an tufannidoon
95. قَالُوا تَاللَّهِ إِنَّكَ لَفِي ضَلَالِكَ الْقَدِيمِ
Qālū Ta-Allāhi Innaka Lafī Đalālika Al-Qadīmi
12:95  They said,By Allah indeed, you are surely/certainly in your old delusion/ error/ confusion.”
95. Qaaloo tallaahi innaka lafee dalaalikal qadeem
96. فَلَمَّا أَنْ جَاءَ الْبَشِيرُ أَلْقَاهُ عَلَىٰ وَجْهِهِ فَارْتَدَّ بَصِيرًا ۖ قَالَ أَلَمْ أَقُلْ لَكُمْ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ مِنَ اللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
Falammā An Jā’a Al-BashīruAlqāhu `Alá Wajhihi Fārtadda Başīrāan Qāla Alam Aqul Lakum Innī ‘A`lamu Mina Al-Lahi Ta`lamūna
12:96  Then when that the bearer of good news arrived, he cast it (i.e., shirt) over his (i.e., Jacob’s) face, then returned/ then he regained his sight. He ˹Jacob˺ said, Did I not say to you, indeed, I know from Allah what you do not know?”

96. Falammaaa an jaaa’albasheeru alqaahu ‘alaa wajhihee fartadda baseeran qaala alam aqul lakum inneee a’lamu minal laahi maa laa ta’lamoon
97. قَالُوا يَا أَبَانَا اسْتَغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا خَاطِئِينَ
Qālū Yā ‘Abānā Astaghfir Lanā Dhunūbanā Innā Kunnā Khāţi’īna
12:97  They ˹Joseph’s Brothers˺ said,O our father! Ask for us forgiveness of our sins. Indeed, we have been sinful/ sinners.”
97. Qaaloo yaaa abaanas taghfir lanaa zunoobanaa innaa kunnaa khaati’een
98. قَالَ سَوْفَ أَسْتَغْفِرُ لَكُمْ رَبِّي ۖ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ
Qāla Sawfa Astaghfiru Lakum Rabbī Innahu Huwa Al-Ghafūru Ar-Raĥīmu
12:98  He ˹Jacob˺ said,Soon I will ask forgiveness for you from my Lord. Indeed, He is the All-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.”
98. Qaala sawfa astaghfiru lakum Rabbeee innahoo Huwal Ghafoorur Raheem
99. فَلَمَّا دَخَلُوا عَلَىٰ يُوسُفَ آوَىٰ إِلَيْهِ أَبَوَيْهِ وَقَالَ ادْخُلُوا مِصْرَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ آمِنِينَ
Falammā Dakhalū `Alá Yūsufa Āwá Ilayhi Abawayhi Wa Qāla Adkhulū Mişra In Shā’a Al-LahuĀminīna
12:99 Then when they entered upon Joseph, he took his parents to himself and said,Enter Egypt if Allah wills, in safe/ peace/ security.”
99. Falammaa dakhaloo ‘alaa Yoosufa aawaaa ilaihi abawaiyhi wa qaalad khuloo Misra inshaaa’al laahu aamineen
100. وَرَفَعَ أَبَوَيْهِ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ وَخَرُّوا لَهُ سُجَّدًا ۖ وَقَالَ يَا أَبَتِ هَٰذَا تَأْوِيلُ رُؤْيَايَ مِنْ قَبْلُ قَدْ جَعَلَهَا رَبِّي حَقًّا ۖ وَقَدْ أَحْسَنَ بِي إِذْ أَخْرَجَنِي مِنَ السِّجْنِ وَجَاءَ بِكُمْ مِنَ الْبَدْوِ مِنْ بَعْدِ أَنْ نَزَغَ الشَّيْطَانُ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ إِخْوَتِي ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّي لَطِيفٌ لِمَا يَشَاءُ ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ
Wa Rafa`aAbawayhi `Alá Al-`Arshi Wa Kharrū Lahu Sujjadāan Wa Qāla Yā ‘Abati Hādhā Ta’wīlu Ru’uyā Y Min Qablu Qad Ja`alahā Rabbī Ĥaqqāan Wa Qad ‘Aĥsana  ‘Idh Akhrajanī Mina As-Sijni Wa Jā’a Bikum Mina Al-Badwi Min Ba`di An Nazagha Ash-Shayţānu Baynī Wa Bayna ‘Ikhwatī ‘Inna Rabbī Laţīfun Limā Yashā’uInnahu Huwa Al-`Alīmu Al-Ĥakīmu
12:100 And he raised his parents upon the throne and they fell down to him in prostration. And he said, “O my father! This is the interpretation of my dream from before. Verily, My Lord has made it true. And indeed, He was good to me when He took me out of the prison, and brought you from the desert life from after that/when the Satan had caused discord/ incited evil/ sowed discord between me and between my brothers. Indeed, my Lord is Most Subtle to what He wills. Indeed, He is the All-Knower, the All-Wise.
100. Wa raf’a abawaihi ‘alal ‘arshi wa kharroo lahoo sujjadaa; wa qaala yaaa abati haaza taaweelu ru’yaaya min qablu qad ja’alahaa Rabbee haqqaa; wa qad ahsana beee iz akhrajanee minas sijni wa jaaa’a bikum minal badwi mim ba’di an nazaghash Shaitaanu bainee wa baina ikhwatee; inna Rabbee lateeful limaa yashaaa’; innahoo Huwal ‘Aleemul Hakeem
101. رَبِّ قَدْ آتَيْتَنِي مِنَ الْمُلْكِ وَعَلَّمْتَنِي مِنْ تَأْوِيلِ الْأَحَادِيثِ ۚ فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ أَنْتَ وَلِيِّي فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ ۖ تَوَفَّنِي مُسْلِمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ
Rabbi Qad Ātaytanī Mina Al-Mulki Wa `Allamtanī Min Ta’wīli Al-‘Aĥādīthi Fāţira As-Samāwāti Wa Al-‘Arđi Anta Wa Līyi Fī Ad-Dunyā Wa Al-‘Ākhirati Tawaffanī Muslimāan Wa ‘Alĥiqnī Biş-Şāliĥīna
12:101  My Lord, indeed, you have given me from the sovereignty/ authority and taught me from/of/about the interpretation of the events. ˹O˺ Creator of the heavens and the earth, You are my Protector in the world and the Hereafter. Cause me to die as one who submits/ a Muslim, and join me with the righteous.”
101. Rabbi qad aataitanee minal mulki wa ‘allamtanee min taaweelil ahaadees; faati ras samaawaati wal ardi Anta waliyyee fid dunyaa wal Aakhirati tawaffanee muslimanw wa alhiqnee bissaaliheen
102. ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ أَنْبَاءِ الْغَيْبِ نُوحِيهِ إِلَيْكَ ۖ وَمَا كُنْتَ لَدَيْهِمْ إِذْ أَجْمَعُوا أَمْرَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَمْكُرُونَ
Dhālika Min ‘Anbā’i Al-Ghaybi Nūĥīhi Ilayka Wa Mā Kunta Ladayhim Idh ‘Ajma`ū ‘Amrahum Wa Hum Yamkurūna
12:102  That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you ˹O Prophet˺. And you were not with them when they put together their plan while they were plotting ˹against Joseph˺.
102. Zaalika min ambaaa’il ghaibi nooheehi ilaika wa maa kunta ladaihim iz ajma’ooo amrahum wa hum yamkuroon
103. وَمَا أَكْثَرُ النَّاسِ وَلَوْ حَرَصْتَ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ
Wa Mā ‘Aktharu An-Nāsi Wa Law Ĥaraşta Bimu’uminīna
12:103  And most of the mankind/ people, even though you desire, will not be believers.
103. Wa maa aksarun naasi wa law harasta bimu’mineen
104. وَمَا تَسْأَلُهُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۚ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِلْعَالَمِينَ
Wa Mā Tas’aluhum `Alayhi Min Ajrin In Huwa Illā Dhikrun Lil`ālamīna
12:104  And you do not ask them any reward for it (i.e., Quran). It is not except a reminder to the whole world/ worlds.
104. Wa maa tas’aluhum ‘alaihi min ajr; in huwa illaa zikrul lil’aalameen (section 11)
105. وَكَأَيِّنْ مِنْ آيَةٍ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ يَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهَا وَهُمْ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضُونَ
Wa Ka’ayyin Min Āyatin Fī As-Samāwāti Wa Al-‘Arđi Yamurrūna `Alayhā Wa Hum `Anhā Mu`riđūna
12:105  And how many of the Signs in the heavens and the earth they pass by it, and they turn away from it.

12:105  And how many of the Signs in the heavens and the earth they pass over it, while they are the ones who turn away from them/ it.

12:105  And how many of/ from a/ the Sign in the heavens and the earth they pass over/by it, while they are from them the ones who turn away.
105. Wa ka ayyim min Aayatin fis samaawaati wal ardi yamurroona ‘alaihaa wa hum ‘anhaa mu’ridoon
106. وَمَا يُؤْمِنُ أَكْثَرُهُمْ بِاللَّهِ إِلَّا وَهُمْ مُشْرِكُونَ
Wa Mā Yu’uminuAktharuhum Bil-Lahi Illā Wa Hum Mushrikūna
12:106  And most of them do not believe in Allah except while they associate others with Him ˹in worship˺.
106. Wa maa yu’minu aksaru hum billaahi illaa wa hum mushrikoon
107. أَفَأَمِنُوا أَنْ تَأْتِيَهُمْ غَاشِيَةٌ مِنْ عَذَابِ اللَّهِ أَوْ تَأْتِيَهُمُ السَّاعَةُ بَغْتَةً وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ
Afa’aminū An Ta’tiyahum Ghāshiyatun Min `Adhābi Al-Lahi Aw Ta’tiyahumu As-Sā`atu Baghtatan Wa Hum Yash`urūna
12:107  Then do they feel secure against that an overwhelming event of punishment comes to them from Allah, or the Hour comes to them suddenly while they do not expect ˹it˺?

12:107  Do they then feel secure (against) that comes to them an overwhelming [of] punishment (of) Allah, or comes to them the Hour suddenly while they do) not perceive?
107. Afa aminooo an taatiya hum ghaashiyatum min ‘azaabil laahi aw taatiyahumus Saa’atu baghtatanw wa hum laa yash’uroon
108. قُلْ هَٰذِهِ سَبِيلِي أَدْعُو إِلَى اللَّهِ ۚ عَلَىٰ بَصِيرَةٍ أَنَا وَمَنِ اتَّبَعَنِي ۖ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ
Qul Hadhihi Sabīlī ‘Ad`ū ‘Ilá Al-Lahi `Alá Başīratin Anā Wa Mani Attaba`anī Wa Subĥāna Al-Lahi Wa Mā Anā Mina Al-Mushrikīna
12:108  Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “This is my way; I invite to Allah with insight, I and whoever follows me. And Glory be to Allah and I am not one of the polytheists.
108. Qul haazihee sabeeleee ad’ooo ilal laah; ‘alaa baseera tin ana wa manit taba’anee wa Subhaanal laahi wa maaa ana minal mushrikeen
109. وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ إِلَّا رِجَالًا نُوحِي إِلَيْهِمْ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْقُرَىٰ ۗ أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَيَنْظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ ۗ وَلَدَارُ الْآخِرَةِ خَيْرٌ لِلَّذِينَ اتَّقَوْا ۗ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ
Wa Mā ‘Arsalnā Min Qablika Illā Rijālāan Nūĥī Ilayhim Min Ahli Al-Qurá Afalam Yasīrū Fī Al-‘Arđi Fayanžurū Kayfa Kāna `Āqibatu Al-Ladhīna Min Qablihim Wa Ladāru Al-‘Ākhirati Khayrun Lilladhīna Attaqaw Afalā Ta`qilūna
12:109  And We did not sent from before you ˹O Prophet˺, but men to whom We revealed/ inspired from among the people of the cities. So have they (i.e., deniers) not traveled in the earth and seen how was the end of those who were ˹destroyed˺ from before them? And surely the home of the Hereafter is best for those mindful ˹of Allah˺. Then will you not understand?
109. Wa maaa arsalnaa min qablika illaa rijaalan nooheee ilaihim min ahlil quraa; afalam yaseeroo fil ardi fa yanzuroo kaifa kaana ‘aaqibatul lazeena min qablihim; wa la Daarul Aakhirati Khairul lillazeenat taqaw; afalaa ta’qiloon
110. حَتَّىٰ إِذَا اسْتَيْأَسَ الرُّسُلُ وَظَنُّوا أَنَّهُمْ قَدْ كُذِبُوا جَاءَهُمْ نَصْرُنَا فَنُجِّيَ مَنْ نَشَاءُ ۖ وَلَا يُرَدُّ بَأْسُنَا عَنِ الْقَوْمِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ
Ĥattá Idhā Astay’asa Ar-Rusulu Wa Žannū ‘Annahum Qad Kudhibū Jā’ahum Naşrunā Fanujjiya Man Nashā’u Wa Lā Yuraddu Ba’sunā `Ani Al-Qawmi Al-Mujrimīna
12:110 Until when the Messengers gave up hope, and thought that they certainly were denied, then Our help came to them, and We saved whomever willed. And Our punishment can not be repelled/ turned away from the criminal people.

were certainly denied,
110. Hattaaa izas tai’asar Rusulu wa zannooo annahum qad kuziboo jaaa’ahum nas runaa fanujjiya man nashaaa’u wa laa yuraddu baasunna ‘anil qawmil mujrimeen
111. لَقَدْ كَانَ فِي قَصَصِهِمْ عِبْرَةٌ لِأُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ ۗ مَا كَانَ حَدِيثًا يُفْتَرَىٰ وَلَٰكِنْ تَصْدِيقَ الَّذِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَتَفْصِيلَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةً لِقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ
Laqad Kāna Qaşaşihim `Ibratun Li’wlī Al-‘Albābi Kāna Ĥadīthāan Yuftará Wa Lakin Taşdīqa Al-Ladhī Bayna Yadayhi Wa Tafşīla Kulli Shay’in Wa Hudáan Wa Raĥmatan Liqawmin Yu’uminūna
12:111  Verily, In their stories there is a lesson for men of understanding. ˹The Qur’an˺ is not an invented narration, but ˹it is˺ a confirmation of that which is between hands (i.e., previous revelation) and a detailed explanation of all things, and a guidance and mercy for a people who believe.
111. Laqad kaana fee qasasihim ‘ibratul li ulil albaab; maa kaana hadeesany yuftaraa wa laakin tasdeeqal lazee baina yadihi wa tafseela kulli shai’inw wa hudanw wa rahmatal liqawminy yu’minoon (section 12)
