1. سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَىٰ بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلًا مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الْأَقْصَى الَّذِي بَارَكْنَا حَوْلَهُ لِنُرِيَهُ مِنْ آيَاتِنَا ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ
Subĥāna Al-Ladhī ‘Asrá Bi`abdihi Laylāan Mina Al-Masjidi Al-Ĥarāmi ‘Ilá Al-Masjidi Al-‘Aqşá Al-Ladhī Bāraknā Ĥawlahu Linuriyahu Min ‘Āyātinā ‘Innahu Huwa As-Samī`u Al-Başīru
17:1 Exalted/Glorified is / Glory be to the One Who took His servant ˹Muḥammad˺ by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque whose surroundings We blessed, so that We may show him of Our Signs. Indeed, He ˹Allah˺ is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer.
17:1 Exalted/Glorified (is)/ Glory be to the One Who took His servant ˹Muḥammad˺ by night from Al-Masjid Al-Haraam, to Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa whose surroundings We blessed, that We may show him of Our Signs. Indeed, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer.
1. Subhaanal lazeee asraa bi’abdihee lailam minal Masjidil Haraami ilal Masjidil Aqsal-lazee baaraknaa haw lahoo linuriyahoo min aayaatinaa;innahoo Huwas Samee’ul-Baseer
2. وَآتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْكِتَابَ وَجَعَلْنَاهُ هُدًى لِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَلَّا تَتَّخِذُوا مِنْ دُونِي وَكِيلًا
Wa ‘Ātaynā Mūsá Al-Kitāba Wa Ja`alnāhu Hudáan Libanī ‘Isrā’īla ‘Allā Tattakhidhū Min Dūnī Wa Kīlāan
17:2 And We gave Moses the Scripture, and made it a guidance for the Children of Israel, ˹stating:˺ “That do not take from other than Me as a Disposer/Trustee of affairs.”
2. Wa aatainaa Moosal-Kitaaba wa ja’alnaahu hudal-liBaneee Israaa’eel; allaa tat-takhizoo min doonee wakeelaa.
3. ذُرِّيَّةَ مَنْ حَمَلْنَا مَعَ نُوحٍ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا
Dhurrīyata Man Ĥamalnā Ma`a Nūĥin ‘Innahu Kāna `Abdāan Shakūrāan
17:3 ˹O˺ descendants of those whom We carried with Noah ˹in the Ark˺! Indeed, he was a grateful servant.
3. Zurriyyata man hamalnaa ma’a Noohin innahoo kaana ‘abdan shakooraa
4. وَقَضَيْنَا إِلَىٰ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ فِي الْكِتَابِ لَتُفْسِدُنَّ فِي الْأَرْضِ مَرَّتَيْنِ وَلَتَعْلُنَّ عُلُوًّا كَبِيرًا
Wa Qađaynā ‘Ilá Banī ‘Isrā’īla Fī Al-Kitābi Latufsidunna Fī Al-‘Arđi Marratayni Wa Lata`lunna `Ulūwāan Kabīrāan
17:4 And We decreed/ conveyed for the Children of Israel in the Scripture, “You will surely cause corruption in the earth twice, and you will surely reach great haughtiness/ height/ arrogance.”
4. Wa qadainaaa ilaa Baneee Israaa’eela fil Kitaabi latufsidunna fil ardi marratain; wa lata’lunna’uluwwan kabeeraa
5. فَإِذَا جَاءَ وَعْدُ أُولَاهُمَا بَعَثْنَا عَلَيْكُمْ عِبَادًا لَنَا أُولِي بَأْسٍ شَدِيدٍ فَجَاسُوا خِلَالَ الدِّيَارِ ۚ وَكَانَ وَعْدًا مَفْعُولًا
Fa’idhā Jā’a Wa`du ‘Ūlāhumā Ba`athnā `Alaykum `Ibādāan Lanā ‘Ūlī Ba’sin Shadīdin Fajāsū Khilāla Ad-Diyāri Wa Kāna Wa`dāan Maf`ūlāan
17:5 So when the first of the two promise came, We raised against you servants of Ours Possessor of great might and they entered the inner most part of the homes, and it was a promise fulfilled.

5. Fa-izaa jaaa’a wa’duoolaahumaa ba’asnaaa ‘alykum ‘ibaadal-lanaaa ulee baasin shadeedin fajaasoo khilaalad diyaar; wa kaana wa’dam maf’oolaa
6. ثُمَّ رَدَدْنَا لَكُمُ الْكَرَّةَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَأَمْدَدْنَاكُمْ بِأَمْوَالٍ وَبَنِينَ وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ أَكْثَرَ نَفِيرًا
Thumma Radadnā Lakumu Al-Karrata `Alayhim Wa ‘Amdadnākum Bi’amwālin Wa Banīna Wa Ja`alnākum ‘Akthara Nafīrāan
17:6 Then We gave back to you the return ˹victory˺ over them. And We reinforced/extended/aided you with the wealth and sons and made you more numerous.
6. Summa radadnaa lakumul karrata ‘alaihim wa amdad-naakum-bi amwaalinuw wa baneen; wa ja’alnaakum aksara nafeeraa
7. إِنْ أَحْسَنْتُمْ أَحْسَنْتُمْ لِأَنْفُسِكُمْ ۖ وَإِنْ أَسَأْتُمْ فَلَهَا ۚ فَإِذَا جَاءَ وَعْدُ الْآخِرَةِ لِيَسُوءُوا وُجُوهَكُمْ وَلِيَدْخُلُوا الْمَسْجِدَ كَمَا دَخَلُوهُ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ وَلِيُتَبِّرُوا مَا عَلَوْا تَتْبِيرًا
‘In ‘Aĥsantum ‘Aĥsantum Li’nfusikum Wa ‘In ‘Asa’tum Falahā Fa’idhā Jā’a Wa`du Al-‘Ākhirati Liyasū’ū Wujūhakum Wa Liyadkhulū Al-Masjida Kamā Dakhalūhu ‘Awwala Marratin Wa Liyutabbirū Mā `Alaw Tatbīrāan
17:7 If you do good, you do good for yourselves; and if you do evil, then it is for it (i.e., yourselves). So when the last promise came, ˹We sent your enemies˺ to sadden your faces and to enter the Temple ˹of Jerusalem˺ just as they had entered it the first time, and to utterly destroy what they had taken over with destruction.
7. In ahsantum ahsantum li anfusikum wa in asaatum falahaa; fa izaa jaaa’a wa’dul aakhirati liyasooo’oo wujoo hakum wa liyadkhulul masjida kamaa dakhaloohu awwala marratinw wa liyutabbiroo maa a’law tatbeera
8. عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمْ أَنْ يَرْحَمَكُمْ ۚ وَإِنْ عُدْتُمْ عُدْنَا ۘ وَجَعَلْنَا جَهَنَّمَ لِلْكَافِرِينَ حَصِيرًا
`Asá Rabbukum ‘An Yarĥamakum Wa ‘In `Udtum `Udnā Wa Ja`alnā Jahannama Lilkāfirīna Ĥaşīrāan
17:8 “May be your Lord will have mercy upon you (i.e., if you repent). But if you return (i.e., to sin), We will return (i.e., to punishment). And We have made Hell, a prison for the disbelievers.”
8. ‘Asaa rabbukum anyyarhamakum; wa in ‘uttum ‘udnaa; wa ja’alnaa jahannama lilkaafireena haseera
9. إِنَّ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ يَهْدِي لِلَّتِي هِيَ أَقْوَمُ وَيُبَشِّرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ الَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ الصَّالِحَاتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ أَجْرًا كَبِيرًا
‘Inna Hādhā Al-Qur’āna Yahdī Lillatī Hiya ‘Aqwamu Wa Yubashshiru Al-Mu’uminīna Al-Ladhīna Ya`malūna Aş-Şāliĥāti ‘Anna Lahum ‘Ajrāan Kabīrāan
17:9 Indeed, this Quran guides to that which is most straight and gives good news to the believers who do the righteous deeds, that for them is a great reward,
9. Inna haazal Quraana yahdee lillatee hiya aqwamu wa yubashshirul mu’mineenal lazeena ya’maloonas saalihaati anna lahum ajran kabeeraa
10. وَأَنَّ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ أَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا
Wa ‘Anna Al-Ladhīna Lā Yu’uminūna Bil-‘Ākhirati ‘A`tadnā Lahum `Adhābāan ‘Alīmāan
17:10 And ˹it gives news/it warns˺ that those who do not believe in the Hereafter, We have prepared for them a painful punishment.
10. Wa annal lazeena laa yu’minoona bil aakhirati a’tadnaa lahum ‘azaaban aleemaa (section 1)
11. وَيَدْعُ الْإِنْسَانُ بِالشَّرِّ دُعَاءَهُ بِالْخَيْرِ ۖ وَكَانَ الْإِنْسَانُ عَجُولًا
Wa Yad`u Al-‘Insānu Bish-Sharri Du`ā’ahu Bil-Khayri Wa Kāna Al-‘Insānu `Ajūlāan
17:11 And the human prays for evil as he prays for the good. And the humankind is ever hasty.
11. Wa yad’ul insaanu bishsharri du’aaa ‘ahoo bilkhayr; wa kaanal insaanu ‘ajoola
12. وَجَعَلْنَا اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ آيَتَيْنِ ۖ فَمَحَوْنَا آيَةَ اللَّيْلِ وَجَعَلْنَا آيَةَ النَّهَارِ مُبْصِرَةً لِتَبْتَغُوا فَضْلًا مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ وَلِتَعْلَمُوا عَدَدَ السِّنِينَ وَالْحِسَابَ ۚ وَكُلَّ شَيْءٍ فَصَّلْنَاهُ تَفْصِيلًا
Wa Ja`alnā Al-Layla Wa An-Nahāra ‘Āyatayni Famaĥawnā ‘Āyata Al-Layli Wa Ja`alnā ‘Āyata An-Nahāri Mubşiratan Litabtaghū Fađlāan Min Rabbikum Wa Lita`lamū `Adada As-Sinīna Wa Al-Ĥisāba Wa Kulla Shay’in Faşşalnāhu Tafşīlāan
17:12 And We have made the night and the day as two signs. Then We erased the sign of the night, and We made the sign of the day visible, so that you may seek bounty from your Lord, and that you may know the number of the years, and the account/ calculation ˹of time˺. And every thing – We have explained it in detail.
12. Wa ja’alnal laila wannahaara Aayatayni famahawnaaa Aayatal laili wa ja’alnaaa Aayatan nahaari mubsiratal litabtaghoo fadlam mir Rabbikum wa lita’lamoo ‘adadas sineena walhisaab; wa kulla shai’in fassalnaahu tafseelaa
13. وَكُلَّ إِنْسَانٍ أَلْزَمْنَاهُ طَائِرَهُ فِي عُنُقِهِ ۖ وَنُخْرِجُ لَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ كِتَابًا يَلْقَاهُ مَنْشُورًا
Wa Kulla ‘Insānin ‘Alzamnāhu Ţā’irahu Fī `Unuqihi Wa Nukhriju Lahu Yawma Al-Qiyāmati Kitābāan Yalqāhu Manshūrāan
17:13 And for every human We have tied to him his fate in his neck, and We will bring forth/out for him on the Day of the Resurrection a record which he will find spread out.
13. Wa kulla insaanin alzamnaahu taaa’irahoo fee ‘unuqihee wa nukhriji lahoo Yawmal Qiyaamati kitaabany yalqaahu manshooraa
14. اقْرَأْ كِتَابَكَ كَفَىٰ بِنَفْسِكَ الْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكَ حَسِيبًا
Aqra‘ Kitābaka Kafá Binafsika Al-Yawma `Alayka Ĥasībāan
17:14 ˹And it will be said,˺ “Read your record. Today yourself is Sufficient against you as accountant.“
17:14 ˹And it will be said,˺ “Read your record. Sufficient is yourself against you today as accountant.“
17:14 ˹And it will be said,˺ “Read your record. Sufficient is yourself today, against you as accountant/ to take account.“
14. Iqra kitaabaka kafaa bi nafsikal Yawma ‘alaika haseebaa
15. مَنِ اهْتَدَىٰ فَإِنَّمَا يَهْتَدِي لِنَفْسِهِ ۖ وَمَنْ ضَلَّ فَإِنَّمَا يَضِلُّ عَلَيْهَا ۚ وَلَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ ۗ وَمَا كُنَّا مُعَذِّبِينَ حَتَّىٰ نَبْعَثَ رَسُولًا
Mani Ahtadá Fa’innamā Yahtadī Linafsihi Wa Man Đalla Fa’innamā Yađillu `Alayhā Wa Lā Taziru Wāziratun Wizra ‘Ukhrá Wa Mā Kunnā Mu`adhdhibīna Ĥattá Nab`atha Rasūlāan
17:15 Whoever is guided then he is only guided for his soul. And whoever goes astray then he only goes astray against it (i.e., his soul). And no bearer of burden will bear a burden of another. And We would never punish until, We have sent a Messenger (i.e., to warn them).

15. Manihtadaa fa innamaa yahtadee linafsihee wa man dalla fa innamaa yadillu ‘alaihaa; wa laa taziru waaziratunw wizra ukhraa; wa maa kunnaa mu’azzibeena hatta nab’asa Rasoola
16. وَإِذَا أَرَدْنَا أَنْ نُهْلِكَ قَرْيَةً أَمَرْنَا مُتْرَفِيهَا فَفَسَقُوا فِيهَا فَحَقَّ عَلَيْهَا الْقَوْلُ فَدَمَّرْنَاهَا تَدْمِيرًا
Wa ‘Idhā ‘Aradnā ‘An Nuhlika Qaryatan ‘Amarnā Mutrafīhā Fafasaqū Fīhā Faĥaqqa `Alayhā Al-Qawlu Fadammarnāhā Tadmīrāan
17:16 And when We intend that We destroy a town, We order its wealthy people but they defiantly/ rebelliously disobey in it; so the word ˹of punishment˺ is proved true against it, and We destroy it with ˹complete˺ destruction.
16. Wa izaaa aradnaaa an nuhlika qaryatan amarnaa mutrafeehaa fafasaqoo feehaa fahaqqa ‘alaihal qawlu fadammarnaahaa tadmeeraa
17. وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِنَ الْقُرُونِ مِنْ بَعْدِ نُوحٍ ۗ وَكَفَىٰ بِرَبِّكَ بِذُنُوبِ عِبَادِهِ خَبِيرًا بَصِيرًا
Wa Kam ‘Ahlaknā Mina Al-Qurūni Min Ba`di Nūĥin Wa Kafá Birabbika Bidhunūbi `Ibādihi Khabīrāan Başīrāan
17:17 And how many from the generations We destroyed from after Noah! And sufficient is your Lord as All-Aware, and All-Seeing concerning/ regarding the sins of His servants.
17:17 And how many from the generations We destroyed from after Noah! And sufficient is your Lord concerning the sins of His servants All-Aware, All-Seeing.
17. Wa kam ahlaknaa minal qurooni min ba’di Nooh; wa kafaa bi Rabbika bizunoobi ‘ibaadihee Khabeeram Baseeraa
18. مَنْ كَانَ يُرِيدُ الْعَاجِلَةَ عَجَّلْنَا لَهُ فِيهَا مَا نَشَاءُ لِمَنْ نُرِيدُ ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَا لَهُ جَهَنَّمَ يَصْلَاهَا مَذْمُومًا مَدْحُورًا
Man Kāna Yurīdu Al-`Ājilata `Ajjalnā Lahu Fīhā Mā Nashā’u Liman Nurīdu Thumma Ja`alnā Lahu Jahannama Yaşlāhā Madhmūmāan Madĥūrāan
17:18 Whoever should desire the immediate, We hasten/speed up for him in it what/ whatever We will to whom We intend. Then We have made/appointed for him Hell, where he will burn, disgraced and rejected.
18. Man kaana yureedul ‘aajilata ‘ajjalnaa lahoo feehaa maa nashaaa’u liman nureedu summa ja’alnaa lahoo Jahannama yaslaahaa mazmoomammad hooraa
19. وَمَنْ أَرَادَ الْآخِرَةَ وَسَعَىٰ لَهَا سَعْيَهَا وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَأُولَٰئِكَ كَانَ سَعْيُهُمْ مَشْكُورًا
Wa Man ‘Arāda Al-‘Ākhirata Wa Sa`á Lahā Sa`yahā Wa Huwa Mu’uminun Fa’ūlā’ika Kāna Sa`yuhum Mashkūrāan
17:19 And whoever desires the Hereafter and exerts/ strives the effort for it, while he is a believer, then those, their effort will be appreciated.
19. Wa man araadal Aakhirata wa sa’aa lahaa sa’yahaa wa huwa mu’minun fa ulaaa’ika kaana sa’yuhum mashkooraa
20. كُلًّا نُمِدُّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ وَهَٰؤُلَاءِ مِنْ عَطَاءِ رَبِّكَ ۚ وَمَا كَانَ عَطَاءُ رَبِّكَ مَحْظُورًا
Kullāan Numiddu Hā’uulā‘ Wa Hā’uulā‘ Min `Aţā’i Rabbika Wa Mā Kāna `Aţā’u Rabbika Maĥžūrāan
17:20 To each We extend/provide – to these and to those, from the gift of your Lord. And the gift of your Lord is not restricted.
20. Kullan numiddu haaa ‘ulaaa’i wa haaa’ulaaa’i min ‘ataaa’i rabbik; wa maa kaana ‘ataaa’u rabbika mahzooraa
21. انْظُرْ كَيْفَ فَضَّلْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ ۚ وَلَلْآخِرَةُ أَكْبَرُ دَرَجَاتٍ وَأَكْبَرُ تَفْضِيلًا
Anžur Kayfa Fađđalnā Ba`đahum `Alá Ba`đin Wa Lal’ākhiratu ‘Akbaru Darajātin Wa ‘Akbaru Tafđīlāan
17:21 See how We preferred/favoured some of them over others ˹in this life˺. And surely the Hereafter is greater in rank and greater in preference/favour.
21. Unzur kaifa faddalnaa ba’dahum ‘alaa ba’d; wa lal Aakhiratu akbaru darajaatinw wa akbaru tafdeelaa
22. لَا تَجْعَلْ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا آخَرَ فَتَقْعُدَ مَذْمُومًا مَخْذُولًا
Lā Taj`al Ma`a Al-Lahi ‘Ilahāan ‘Ākhara Fataq`uda Madhmūmāan Makhdhūlāan
17:22 Do not make/set up another god with Allah, then you will sit (i.e., end up) disgraced, and abandoned.
22. Laa taj’al ma’al laahi ilaahan aakhara fataq’uda mazoomam makhzoolaa (section 2)
23. وَقَضَىٰ رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا إِيَّاهُ وَبِالْوَالِدَيْنِ إِحْسَانًا ۚ إِمَّا يَبْلُغَنَّ عِنْدَكَ الْكِبَرَ أَحَدُهُمَا أَوْ كِلَاهُمَا فَلَا تَقُلْ لَهُمَا أُفٍّ وَلَا تَنْهَرْهُمَا وَقُلْ لَهُمَا قَوْلًا كَرِيمًا
Wa Qađá Rabbuka ‘Allā Ta`budū ‘Illā ‘Īyāhu Wa Bil-Wālidayni ‘Iĥsānāan ‘Immā Yablughanna `Indaka Al-Kibara ‘Aĥaduhumā ‘Aw Kilāhumā Falā Taqul Lahumā ‘Uffin Wa Lā Tanharhumā Wa Qul Lahumā Qawlāan Karīmāan
17:23 And your Lord has decreed that worship none except Him Alone and be good to the parents. Whether one of them, or both of them reach the old age ˹while˺ with you, then never say ˹even˺ ‘ugh’ to them and do not repel/scold them, but speak to them a noble word.
23. Wa qadaa Rabbuka allaa ta’budooo illaaa iyyaahu wa bilwaalidaini ihsaanaa; immaa yablughanna ‘indakal kibara ahaduhumaaa aw kilaahumaa falaa taqul lahumaaa uffinw wa laa tanharhumaa wa qullahumaa qawlan kareemaa
24. وَاخْفِضْ لَهُمَا جَنَاحَ الذُّلِّ مِنَ الرَّحْمَةِ وَقُلْ رَبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا
Wa Akhfiđ Lahumā Janāĥa Adh-Dhulli Mina Ar-Raĥmati Wa Qul Rrabbi Arĥamhumā Kamā Rabbayānī Şaghīrāan
17:24 And lower to them the wing of humility out of the mercy and say, “My Lord! Have mercy on both of them as they brought me up ˹when I was˺ small.”
24. Wakhfid lahumaa janaahaz zulli minar rahmati wa qur Rabbir hamhumaa kamaa rabbayaanee sagheera
25. رَبُّكُمْ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا فِي نُفُوسِكُمْ ۚ إِنْ تَكُونُوا صَالِحِينَ فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ لِلْأَوَّابِينَ غَفُورًا
Rabbukum ‘A`lamu Bimā Fī Nufūsikum ‘In Takūnū Şāliĥīna Fa’innahu Kāna Lil’awwābīna Ghafūrāan
17:25 Your Lord is most knowing of what is in yourselves. If you are righteous, then indeed, He is Most/All-Forgiving to those who often turn ˹to Him constantly˺.
25. Rabbukum a’lamu bimaa fee nufoosikum; in takoonoo saaliheena fa innahoo kaana lil awwaabeena Ghafoooraa
26. وَآتِ ذَا الْقُرْبَىٰ حَقَّهُ وَالْمِسْكِينَ وَابْنَ السَّبِيلِ وَلَا تُبَذِّرْ تَبْذِيرًا
Wa ‘Āti Dhā Al-Qurbá Ĥaqqahu Wa Al-Miskīna Wa Abna As-Sabīli Wa Lā Tubadhdhir Tabdhīrāan
17:26 And give one of the ˹close˺ relatives his right, and the needy/poor, and the ˹needy˺ travellers, and do not spend wastefully.
And give ˹each˺ one of the relatives his right
And give the one who is close in relationship
26. Wa aati zal qurbaa haqqahoo walmiskeena wabnas sabeeli wa laa tubazzir tabzeeraa
27. إِنَّ الْمُبَذِّرِينَ كَانُوا إِخْوَانَ الشَّيَاطِينِ ۖ وَكَانَ الشَّيْطَانُ لِرَبِّهِ كَفُورًا
‘Inna Al-Mubadhdhirīna Kānū ‘Ikhwāna Ash-Shayāţīni Wa Kāna Ash-Shayţānu Lirabbihi Kafūrāan
17:27 Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils. And the Satan is ungrateful to his Lord.
27. Innal mubazzireena kaanoo ikhwaanash shayaateeni wa kaanash shaytaanu li Rabbihee kafooraa
28. وَإِمَّا تُعْرِضَنَّ عَنْهُمُ ابْتِغَاءَ رَحْمَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّكَ تَرْجُوهَا فَقُلْ لَهُمْ قَوْلًا مَيْسُورًا
Wa ‘Immā Tu`riđanna `Anhumu Abtighā’a Raĥmatin Min Rabbika Tarjūhā Faqul Lahum Qawlāan Maysūrāan
17:28 And if you turn away from them seeking mercy from your Lord which you expect, then say to them a gentle/soft/easy word.
then say to them a word of ease.
28. Wa immaa tu’ridanna ‘anhum ubtighaaa’a rahmatim mir rabbika tarjoohaa faqul lahum qawlam maisooraa
29. وَلَا تَجْعَلْ يَدَكَ مَغْلُولَةً إِلَىٰ عُنُقِكَ وَلَا تَبْسُطْهَا كُلَّ الْبَسْطِ فَتَقْعُدَ مَلُومًا مَحْسُورًا
Wa Lā Taj`al Yadaka Maghlūlatan ‘Ilá `Unuqika Wa Lā Tabsuţhā Kulla Al-Basţi Fataq`uda Malūmāan Maĥsūrāan
17:29 And do not make your hand chained to your neck (i.e., tight-fisted), and nor extend it to its utmost reach (i.e., open-handed), so that you sit blameworthy, with regret/ restricted.
29. Wa laa taj’al yadaka maghloolatan ilaa ‘unuqika wa laa tabsut haa kullal basti fataq’uda maloomam mahsooraa
30. إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَبْسُطُ الرِّزْقَ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَقْدِرُ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ بِعِبَادِهِ خَبِيرًا بَصِيرًا
‘Inna Rabbaka Yabsuţu Ar-Rizqa Liman Yashā’u Wa Yaqdiru ‘Innahu Kāna Bi`ibādihi Khabīrāan Başīrāan
17:30 Indeed, your Lord extends (i.e., gives abundantly) and limits the provision for whom He wills. Indeed, He is All-Aware, All-Seer of His slaves.
30. Inna Rabbaka yabsuturrizqa limai yashaaa’u wa yaqdir; innahoo kaana bi’ibaadihee Khabeeran Baseera (section 3)
31. وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا أَوْلَادَكُمْ خَشْيَةَ إِمْلَاقٍ ۖ نَحْنُ نَرْزُقُهُمْ وَإِيَّاكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ قَتْلَهُمْ كَانَ خِطْئًا كَبِيرًا
Wa Lā Taqtulū ‘Awlādakum Khashyata ‘Imlāqin Naĥnu Narzuquhum Wa ‘Īyākum ‘Inna Qatlahum Kāna Khiţ’āan Kabīrāan
17:31 And do not kill your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you. Indeed, their killing is a great sin.
31. Wa laa taqtulooo awlaadakum khashyata imlaaqin nahnu narzuquhum wa iyyaakum; inna qatlahum kaana khit ‘an kabeeraa
32. وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا الزِّنَا ۖ إِنَّهُ كَانَ فَاحِشَةً وَسَاءَ سَبِيلًا
Wa Lā Taqrabū Az-Ziná ‘Innahu Kāna Fāĥishatan Wa Sā’a Sabīlāan
17:32 And do not go near adultery. Indeed, it is an immorality/ a shameful deed/ indecency and an evil way.
32. Wa laa taqrabuz zinaaa innahoo kaana faahishatanw wa saaa’a sabeelaa
33. وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا النَّفْسَ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ ۗ وَمَنْ قُتِلَ مَظْلُومًا فَقَدْ جَعَلْنَا لِوَلِيِّهِ سُلْطَانًا فَلَا يُسْرِفْ فِي الْقَتْلِ ۖ إِنَّهُ كَانَ مَنْصُورًا
Wa Lā Taqtulū An-Nafsa Allatī Ĥarrama Al-Lahu ‘Illā Bil-Ĥaqqi Wa Man Qutila Mažlūmāan Faqad Ja`alnā Liwalīyihi Sulţānāan Falā Yusrif Fī Al-Qatli ‘Innahu Kāna Manşūrāan
17:33 And do not kill/take a ˹human˺ life which Allah has forbidden, except with ˹legal˺ right. And whoever is killed wrongfully, verily We have made/placed/given for his heir/his heir/guardian an authority, but do not let them exceed limits in the killing/taking life. Indeed, he is helped (i.e., by law/Allah).

33. Wa laa taqtulun nafsal latee harramal laahu illaa bilhaqq; wa man qutila mazlooman faqad ja’alnaa liwaliyyihee sultaanan falaa yusrif fil qatli innahoo kaana mansooraa
34. وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا مَالَ الْيَتِيمِ إِلَّا بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ حَتَّىٰ يَبْلُغَ أَشُدَّهُ ۚ وَأَوْفُوا بِالْعَهْدِ ۖ إِنَّ الْعَهْدَ كَانَ مَسْئُولًا
Wa Lā Taqrabū Māla Al-Yatīmi ‘Illā Bi-Atī Hiya ‘Aĥsanu Ĥattá Yablugha ‘Ashuddahu Wa ‘Awfū Bil-`Ahdi ‘Inna Al-`Ahda Kāna Mas’ūlāan
17:34 And do not come near the wealth of the orphan, except with that which is best—until he reaches his maturity. And fulfil the covenant/promise. Indeed, the covenant/promise will be questioned.

34. Wa laa taqraboo maalal yateemi illaa billatee hiya ahsanu hattaa yablugha ashuddah; wa awfoo bil’ahd, innal ‘ahda kaana mas’oolaa
35. وَأَوْفُوا الْكَيْلَ إِذَا كِلْتُمْ وَزِنُوا بِالْقِسْطَاسِ الْمُسْتَقِيمِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ وَأَحْسَنُ تَأْوِيلًا
Wa ‘Awfū Al-Kayla ‘Idhā Kiltum Wa Zinū Bil-Qisţāsi Al-Mustaqīmi Dhālika Khayrun Wa ‘Aĥsanu Ta’wīlāan
17:35 And give in full measure when you measure, and weigh with the straight/even balance. That is better and best in result.

35. Wa awful kaila izaa kiltum wa zinoo bilqistaasil mustaqeem; zaalika khairunw wa ahsanu ta’weelaa
36. وَلَا تَقْفُ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ عِلْمٌ ۚ إِنَّ السَّمْعَ وَالْبَصَرَ وَالْفُؤَادَ كُلُّ أُولَٰئِكَ كَانَ عَنْهُ مَسْئُولًا
Wa Lā Taqfu Mā Laysa Laka Bihi `Ilmun ‘Inna As-Sam`a Wa Al-Başara Wa Al-Fu’uāda Kullu ‘Ūlā’ika Kāna `Anhu Mas’ūlāan
17:36 And do not follow what you have no knowledge of it. Indeed, the hearing, and the sight, and the heart/intellect, all those will be questioned about it.
And do not follow what you do not have knowledge of it.
36. Wa laa taqfu maa laisa laka bihee ‘ilm; innas sam’a walbasara walfu’aada kullu ulaaa’ika kaana ‘anhu mas’oolaa
37. وَلَا تَمْشِ فِي الْأَرْضِ مَرَحًا ۖ إِنَّكَ لَنْ تَخْرِقَ الْأَرْضَ وَلَنْ تَبْلُغَ الْجِبَالَ طُولًا
Wa Lā Tamshi Fī Al-‘Arđi Maraĥāan ‘Innaka Lan Takhriqa Al-‘Arđa Wa Lan Tablugha Al-Jibāla Ţūlāan
17:37 And do not walk in the earth arrogantly. Indeed, you will neither tear/crack the earth and nor reach the height of the mountains.
37. Wa laa tamshi fil ardi marahan innaka lan takhriqal arda wa lan tablughal jibaala toola
38. كُلُّ ذَٰلِكَ كَانَ سَيِّئُهُ عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ مَكْرُوهًا
Kullu Dhālika Kāna Sayyi’uhu `Inda Rabbika Makrūhāan
17:38 All that is evil and hateful near/by your Lord.

38. Kullu zaalika kaana sayyi’uhoo inda Rabbika makroohaa
39. ذَٰلِكَ مِمَّا أَوْحَىٰ إِلَيْكَ رَبُّكَ مِنَ الْحِكْمَةِ ۗ وَلَا تَجْعَلْ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا آخَرَ فَتُلْقَىٰ فِي جَهَنَّمَ مَلُومًا مَدْحُورًا
Dhālika Mimmā ‘Awĥá ‘Ilayka Rabbuka Mina Al-Ĥikmati Wa Lā Taj`al Ma`a Al-Lahi ‘Ilahāan ‘Ākhara Fatulqá Fī Jahannama Malūmāan Madĥūrāan
17:39 That is from what your Lord has revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ of the wisdom. And do not make/set up other god with Allah, lest/or you should be thrown in Hell, blameworthy, and abandoned/rejected.
17:39 That is from what was revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ from your Lord of the wisdom. And (do) not make with Allah god other lest you should be thrown in Hell, blameworthy, abandoned.
39. Zaalika mimmaaa awhaaa ilaika Rabbuka minal hikmah; wa laa taj’al ma’allaahi ilaahan aakhara fatulqaa fee Jahannama maloomam mad hooraa
40. أَفَأَصْفَاكُمْ رَبُّكُمْ بِالْبَنِينَ وَاتَّخَذَ مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ إِنَاثًا ۚ إِنَّكُمْ لَتَقُولُونَ قَوْلًا عَظِيمًا
‘Afa’aşfākum Rabbukum Bil-Banīna Wa Attakhadha Mina Al-Malā’ikati ‘Ināthāan ‘Innakum Lataqūlūna Qawlāan `Ažīmāan
17:40 Then, has your Lord favored you ˹pagans˺ with sons and He has taken from the Angels as ˹His˺ daughters? Indeed, you surely say a grave word.

40. Afa asfaakum rabbukum bilbaneena wattakhaza minal malaaa’ikati inaasaa; innakum lataqooloona qawlan ‘azeema (section 4)
41. وَلَقَدْ صَرَّفْنَا فِي هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنِ لِيَذَّكَّرُوا وَمَا يَزِيدُهُمْ إِلَّا نُفُورًا
Wa Laqad Şarrafnā Fī Hādhā Al-Qur’āni Liyadhdhakkarū Wa Mā Yazīduhum ‘Illā Nufūrāan
17:41 And verily, We have explained ˹things˺ in various ˹ways˺ in this Quran, so that they may be mindful/take heed, but it does not increases them except in aversion/repulsion/ hatred/ driving them farther away.

41. Wa laqad sarrafnaa fee haazal Quraani liyazzakkaroo wa maa yazeeduhum illaa nufooraa
42. قُلْ لَوْ كَانَ مَعَهُ آلِهَةٌ كَمَا يَقُولُونَ إِذًا لَابْتَغَوْا إِلَىٰ ذِي الْعَرْشِ سَبِيلًا
Qul Law Kāna Ma`ahu ‘Ālihatun Kamā Yaqūlūna ‘Idhāan Lābtaghaw ‘Ilá Dhī Al-`Arshi Sabīlāan
17:42 Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “If there had been ˹other˺ gods with Him as they say, then surely they would have tried to find/sought a way to ˹challenge˺ the Owner of the Throne.”
42. Qul law kaana ma’ahooo aalihatun kamaa yaqooloona izal labtaghaw ilaa zil ‘Arshi Sabeela
43. سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ عَمَّا يَقُولُونَ عُلُوًّا كَبِيرًا
Subĥānahu Wa Ta`ālá `Ammā Yaqūlūna `Ulūwāan Kabīrāan
17:43 Glorified is He and Exalted is He above what they say by Great Height.
43. Subhaanahoo wa Ta’aalaa ‘ammaa yaqooloona ‘uluwwan kabeeraa
44. تُسَبِّحُ لَهُ السَّمَاوَاتُ السَّبْعُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ ۚ وَإِنْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا يُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِهِ وَلَٰكِنْ لَا تَفْقَهُونَ تَسْبِيحَهُمْ ۗ إِنَّهُ كَانَ حَلِيمًا غَفُورًا
Tusabbiĥu Lahu As-Samāwātu As-Sab`u Wa Al-‘Arđu Wa Man Fīhinna Wa ‘In Min Shay’in ‘Illā Yusabbiĥu Biĥamdihi Wa Lakin Lā Tafqahūna Tasbīĥahum ‘Innahu Kāna Ĥalīmāan Ghafūrāan
17:44 The seven heavens and the earth and whatever is in them glorify Him. And there is not any thing except ˹that it˺ glorifies His Praise, but you can/do not understand their glorification. Indeed, He is Ever-Forbearing, All-Forgiving.“
44. Tusabbihu lahus samaawaatus sab’u wal ardu wa man feehinn; wa im min shai’in illaa yusabbihu bihamdihee wa laakil laa tafqahoona tasbeehahum; innahoo kaana Haleeman Ghafooraa
45. وَإِذَا قَرَأْتَ الْقُرْآنَ جَعَلْنَا بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ حِجَابًا مَسْتُورًا
Wa ‘Idhā Qara’ta Al-Qur’āna Ja`alnā Baynaka Wa Bayna Al-Ladhīna Lā Yu’uminūna Bil-‘Ākhirati Ĥijābāan Mastūrāan
17:45 And when you recite the Quran, We place between you and between those who do not believe in the Hereafter a hidden barrier.
45. Wa izaa qara’ tal Quraana ja’alnaa bainaka wa bainal lazeena laa yu’minoona bil aakhirati hijaabam mastooraa
46. وَجَعَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ أَكِنَّةً أَنْ يَفْقَهُوهُ وَفِي آذَانِهِمْ وَقْرًا ۚ وَإِذَا ذَكَرْتَ رَبَّكَ فِي الْقُرْآنِ وَحْدَهُ وَلَّوْا عَلَىٰ أَدْبَارِهِمْ نُفُورًا
Wa Ja`alnā `Alá Qulūbihim ‘Akinnatan ‘An Yafqahūhu Wa Fī ‘Ādhānihim Waqrāan Wa ‘Idhā Dhakarta Rabbaka Fī Al-Qur’āni Waĥdahu Wa Llaw `Alá ‘Adbārihim Nufūrāan
17:46 And We have placed coverings over their hearts, so that they ˹do not˺ understand it, and deafness in their ears. And when you mention your Lord Alone in the Quran, they turn on their backs in aversion/repulsion/ hatred/ driving farther away/ extreme dislikeness/ hatred.
17:46 And We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And when you mention your Lord in the Quran Alone, they turn on their backs (in) aversion.
46. Wa ja’alnaa ‘alaa quloo bihim akinnatan any yafqahoohu wa feee aazaanihim waqraa; wa izaa zakarta Rabbaka fil Quraani wahdahoo wallaw ‘alaaa adbaarihim nufooraa
47. نَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَسْتَمِعُونَ بِهِ إِذْ يَسْتَمِعُونَ إِلَيْكَ وَإِذْ هُمْ نَجْوَىٰ إِذْ يَقُولُ الظَّالِمُونَ إِنْ تَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا رَجُلًا مَسْحُورًا
Naĥnu ‘A`lamu Bimā Yastami`ūna Bihi ‘Idh Yastami`ūna ‘Ilayka Wa ‘Idh Hum Najwá ‘Idh Yaqūlu Až-Žālimūna ‘In Tattabi`ūna ‘Illā Rajulāan Masĥūrāan
17:47 We know best of what they listen to it when they listen to you, and when they are in private conversation, when the wrongdoers say, “You follow none but a man affected by magic.”
47. Nahnu a’lamu bimaa yastami’oona biheee iz yastami’oona ilaika wa iz hum najwaaa iz yaqooluz zaalimoona in tattabi’oona illaa rajulam mas hooraa
48. انْظُرْ كَيْفَ ضَرَبُوا لَكَ الْأَمْثَالَ فَضَلُّوا فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ سَبِيلًا
Anžur Kayfa Đarabū Laka Al-‘Amthāla Fađallū Falā Yastaţī`ūna Sabīlāan
17:48 See how they put forth/give the examples for you ˹O Prophet˺; but they have gone astray/ are lost so they can not ˹find the Right˺ way.
48. Unzur kaifa daraboo lakal amsaala fadalloo falaa yastatee’oona sabeelaa
49. وَقَالُوا أَإِذَا كُنَّا عِظَامًا وَرُفَاتًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ خَلْقًا جَدِيدًا
Wa Qālū ‘A’idhā Kunnā `Ižāmāan Wa Rufātāan ‘A’innā Lamab`ūthūna Khalqāan Jadīdāan
17:49 And they say ˹mockingly˺, “Is it when we are ˹reduced to˺ bones and crumbled particles/ashes/dust, will we surely be resurrected/raised as a new creation.”
49. Wa qaalooo ‘a izaa kunnaa ‘izaamanw wa rufaatan ‘a innaa lamab’oosoona khalqan jadeedaa
50. قُلْ كُونُوا حِجَارَةً أَوْ حَدِيدًا
Qul Kūnū Ĥijāratan ‘Aw Ĥadīdāan
17:50 Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “˹Yes, even if˺ you be stones or iron,
50. Qul koonoo hijaaratan aw hadeedaa
51. أَوْ خَلْقًا مِمَّا يَكْبُرُ فِي صُدُورِكُمْ ۚ فَسَيَقُولُونَ مَنْ يُعِيدُنَا ۖ قُلِ الَّذِي فَطَرَكُمْ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ ۚ فَسَيُنْغِضُونَ إِلَيْكَ رُءُوسَهُمْ وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هُوَ ۖ قُلْ عَسَىٰ أَنْ يَكُونَ قَرِيبًا
‘Aw Khalqāan Mimmā Yakburu Fī Şudūrikum Fasayaqūlūna Man Yu`īdunā Quli Al-Ladhī Faţarakum ‘Awwala Marratin Fasayunghiđūna ‘Ilayka Ru’ūsahum Wa Yaqūlūna Matá Huwa Qul `Asá ‘An Yakūna Qarībāan
17:51 Or a creation of what is great/ harder ˹to raise up˺ in your chests.” Then they will say, “Who will restore us/ bring us back ˹to life˺?” Say, “He Who created you the first time.” Then they will shake their heads at you and they say, “When will it be?” Say, “Perhaps that it will be soon.”
51. Aw khalqam mimmaa yakburu fee sudoorikum; fasa yaqooloona mai yu’eedunaa qulil lazee fatarakum awwala marrah; fasa yunghidoona ilaika ru’oosahum wa yaqooloona mataahoo; qul ‘asaaa any yakoona qareeba
52. يَوْمَ يَدْعُوكُمْ فَتَسْتَجِيبُونَ بِحَمْدِهِ وَتَظُنُّونَ إِنْ لَبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا
Yawma Yad`ūkum Fatastajībūna Biĥamdihi Wa Tažunnūna ‘In Labithtum ‘Illā Qalīlāan
17:52 On the Day He will call you, and you will respond with His Praise, and you will think, you had not remained ˹in the world˺ except a little ˹while˺.
52. Yawma yad’ookum fatastajeeboona bihamdihee wa tazunnoona il labistum illaa qaleela (section 5)
53. وَقُلْ لِعِبَادِي يَقُولُوا الَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ ۚ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَنْزَغُ بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ كَانَ لِلْإِنْسَانِ عَدُوًّا مُبِينًا
Wa Qul Li`ibādī Yaqūlū Allatī Hiya ‘Aĥsanu ‘Inna Ash-Shayţāna Yanzaghu Baynahum ‘Inna Ash-Shayţāna Kāna Lil’insāni `Adūwāan Mubīnāan
17:53 And say to My servants to say that which is best/better. Indeed, the Satan sows discord/enmity between them. Indeed, the Satan is an clear enemy to the humankind.
53. Wa qul li’ibaadee yaqoolul latee hiya ahsan; innash shaitaana yanzaghu bainahum; innash shaitaana kaana lil insaani ‘aduwwam mubeenaa
54. رَبُّكُمْ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ ۖ إِنْ يَشَأْ يَرْحَمْكُمْ أَوْ إِنْ يَشَأْ يُعَذِّبْكُمْ ۚ وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَكِيلًا
Rabbukum ‘A`lamu Bikum ‘In Yasha‘ Yarĥamkum ‘Aw ‘In Yasha‘ Yu`adhdhibkum Wa Mā ‘Arsalnāka `Alayhim Wa Kīlāan
17:54 Your Lord is most knowing of you. If He wills, He will have mercy on you; or if He wills He will punish you. And We have not sent you ˹O Prophet˺ as a guardian/keeper over them.
54. Rabbukum a’lamu bikum iny yasha’ yarhamkum aw iny yasha’ yu’azzibkum; wa maaa arsalnaaka ‘alaihim wakeelaa
55. وَرَبُّكَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۗ وَلَقَدْ فَضَّلْنَا بَعْضَ النَّبِيِّينَ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ ۖ وَآتَيْنَا دَاوُودَ زَبُورًا
Wa Rabbuka ‘A`lamu Biman Fī As-Samāwāti Wa Al-‘Arđi Wa Laqad Fađđalnā Ba`đa An-Nabīyīna `Alá Ba`đin Wa ‘Ātaynā Dāwūda Zabūrāan
17:55 And your Lord is most knowing of whoever is in the heavens and the earth. And surely We have preferred some of the Prophets to/over others. And We gave Zaboor/Psalms to Dawood.
And to Dawood We gave Zaboor/Psalms.
55. Wa Rabbuka a’lamu biman fis samaawaati wal ard; wa laqad faddalnaa ba’dan Nabiyyeena ‘alaa ba’dinw wa aatainaaa Daawooda Zabooraa
56. قُلِ ادْعُوا الَّذِينَ زَعَمْتُمْ مِنْ دُونِهِ فَلَا يَمْلِكُونَ كَشْفَ الضُّرِّ عَنْكُمْ وَلَا تَحْوِيلًا
Quli Ad`ū Al-Ladhīna Za`amtum Min Dūnihi Falā Yamlikūna Kashfa Ađ-Đurri `Ankum Wa Lā Taĥwīlāan
17:56 Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Call those whom you claimed from besides Him, then/so/for they do not have power to remove the harm from you and nor to transfer it ˹to someone else˺.”
56. Qulid ‘ul lazeena za’amtum min doonihee falaa yamlikoona kashfad durri’ankum wa laa tahweelaa
57. أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ يَبْتَغُونَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمُ الْوَسِيلَةَ أَيُّهُمْ أَقْرَبُ وَيَرْجُونَ رَحْمَتَهُ وَيَخَافُونَ عَذَابَهُ ۚ إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ كَانَ مَحْذُورًا
‘Ūlā’ika Al-Ladhīna Yad`ūna Yabtaghūna ‘Ilá Rabbihimu Al-Wasīlata ‘Ayyuhum ‘Aqrabu Wa Yarjūna Raĥmatahu Wa Yakhāfūna `Adhābahu ‘Inna `Adhāba Rabbika Kāna Maĥdhūrāan
17:57 Those whom they call, ˹themselves˺ seek the means of access to their Lord, ˹as to˺ which of them would be nearest, and they hope for His mercy and fear His punishment. Indeed, the punishment of your Lord is feared/fearsome.
17:57 Those whom they call, seek to their Lord the means of access, ˹as to˺ which of them is nearest, and they hope for His mercy and fear His punishment. Indeed, the punishment of your Lord is (ever) feared.
57. Ulaaa’ikal lazeena yad’oona yabtaghoona ilaa Rabbihimul waseelata ayyuhum aqrabu wa yarjoona rahmatahoo wa yakhaafoona ‘azaabah; inna ‘azaaba rabbika kaana mahzooraa
58. وَإِنْ مِنْ قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا نَحْنُ مُهْلِكُوهَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ أَوْ مُعَذِّبُوهَا عَذَابًا شَدِيدًا ۚ كَانَ ذَٰلِكَ فِي الْكِتَابِ مَسْطُورًا
Wa ‘In Min Qaryatin ‘Illā Naĥnu Muhlikūhā Qabla Yawmi Al-Qiyāmati ‘Aw Mu`adhdhibūhā `Adhābāan Shadīdāan Kāna Dhālika Fī Al-Kitābi Masţūrāan
17:58 And there is not any town but/except We will destroy it before the Day of the Resurrection/Judgment or punish it with a severe punishment. That is written in the Book.
58. Wa in min qaryatin illaa Nahnu muhlikoohaa qabla Yawmil Qiyaamati aw mu’az ziboohaa ‘azaaban shadeedaa; kaana zaalika fil Kitaabi mastooraa
59. وَمَا مَنَعَنَا أَنْ نُرْسِلَ بِالْآيَاتِ إِلَّا أَنْ كَذَّبَ بِهَا الْأَوَّلُونَ ۚ وَآتَيْنَا ثَمُودَ النَّاقَةَ مُبْصِرَةً فَظَلَمُوا بِهَا ۚ وَمَا نُرْسِلُ بِالْآيَاتِ إِلَّا تَخْوِيفًا
Wa Mā Mana`anā ‘An Nursila Bil-‘Āyāti ‘Illā ‘An Kadhdhaba Bihā Al-‘Awwalūna Wa ‘Ātaynā Thamūda An-Nāqata Mubşiratan Fažalamū Bihā Wa Mā Nursilu Bil-‘Āyāti ‘Illā Takhwīfāan
17:59 And nothing stopped Us from sending the Signs except that the former/earlier ˹people had already˺ denied them (i.e., Signs). And We gave Thamud the she-camel as a visible sign, but they wronged her. And We do not send the Signs except as a warning.

59. Wa maa mana’anaaa an nursila bil aayaati illaaa an kazzaba bihal awwaloon; wa aatainaa Samoodan naaqata mubsiratan fazalamoo bihaa; wa maa nursilu bil aayaati illaa takhweefaa
60. وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لَكَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ أَحَاطَ بِالنَّاسِ ۚ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا الرُّؤْيَا الَّتِي أَرَيْنَاكَ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِلنَّاسِ وَالشَّجَرَةَ الْمَلْعُونَةَ فِي الْقُرْآنِ ۚ وَنُخَوِّفُهُمْ فَمَا يَزِيدُهُمْ إِلَّا طُغْيَانًا كَبِيرًا
Wa ‘Idh Qulnā Laka ‘Inna Rabbaka ‘Aĥāţa Bin-Nāsi Wa Mā Ja`alnā Ar-Ru’uyā Allatī ‘Araynāka ‘Illā Fitnatan Lilnnāsi Wa Ash-Shajarata Al-Mal`ūnata Fī Al-Qur’āni Wa Nukhawwifuhum Famā Yazīduhum ‘Illā Ţughyānāan Kabīrāan
17:60 And ˹remember, O Prophet˺ when We said to you, “Indeed, your Lord has encompassed the mankind.“ And We did not made/make the vision which We showed you, and the cursed tree ˹mentioned˺ in the Quran except as a trial for humankind. And We threaten them, but it increases them nothing except in great transgression/rebellious.
but it only increases them in transgression great.
but not it increases them except (in) transgression great.
60. Wa iz qulnaa laka inna rabbaka ahaata binnaas; wa maa ja’alnar ru’yal lateee arainaaka illaa fitnatal linnaasi washshajaratal mal’oonata fil quraan; wa nukhaw wifuhum famaa yazeeduhum illa tughyaanan kabeeraa (section 6)
61. وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ اسْجُدُوا لِآدَمَ فَسَجَدُوا إِلَّا إِبْلِيسَ قَالَ أَأَسْجُدُ لِمَنْ خَلَقْتَ طِينًا
Wa ‘Idh Qulnā Lilmalā’ikati Asjudū Li’dama Fasajadū ‘Illā ‘Iblīsa Qāla ‘A’asjudu Liman Khalaqta Ţīnāan
17:61 And ˹remember˺ when We said to the Angels, “Prostrate to Adam.” So they prostrated except Iblis. he said, “Should I prostrate to one whom You have created from clay/mud?”
61. Wa iz qulnaa lil malaaa’ikatis judoo li Aadama fasajadooo illaaa Ibleesa qaala ‘a-asjudu liman khalaqta teena
62. قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَكَ هَٰذَا الَّذِي كَرَّمْتَ عَلَيَّ لَئِنْ أَخَّرْتَنِ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لَأَحْتَنِكَنَّ ذُرِّيَّتَهُ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا
Qāla ‘Ara’aytaka Hādhā Al-Ladhī Karramta `Alayya La’in ‘Akhkhartanī ‘Ilá Yawmi Al-Qiyāmati La’aĥtanikanna Dhurrīyatahu ‘Illā Qalīlāan
17:62 he said, “Do You see this whom You have honored, above me? If You give me respite/ delay me end until the Day of Resurrection/Judgment, I will surely take hold of his descendants, except a few.”
62. Qaala ara’aytaka haazal lazee karramta ‘alaiya la’in akhartani ilaa Yawmil Qiyaamati la ahtanikanna zurriyyatahooo illaa qaleelaa
63. قَالَ اذْهَبْ فَمَنْ تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ فَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ جَزَاؤُكُمْ جَزَاءً مَوْفُورًا
Qāla Adh/hab Faman Tabi`aka Minhum Fa’inna Jahannama Jazā’uukum Jazā’an Mawfūrāan
17:63 He ˹Allah˺ said, “Go, and whoever among them follows you then indeed, Hell is your recompense/ reward – an ample (i.e., abundant/plentiful) reward.
63. Qaalaz hab faman tabi’aka minhum fa inna Jahannama jazaaa’ukum jazaaa’am mawfooraa
64. وَاسْتَفْزِزْ مَنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ مِنْهُمْ بِصَوْتِكَ وَأَجْلِبْ عَلَيْهِمْ بِخَيْلِكَ وَرَجِلِكَ وَشَارِكْهُمْ فِي الْأَمْوَالِ وَالْأَوْلَادِ وَعِدْهُمْ ۚ وَمَا يَعِدُهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ إِلَّا غُرُورًا
Wa Astafziz Mani Astaţa`ta Minhum Bişawtika Wa ‘Ajlib `Alayhim Bikhaylika Wa Rajilika Wa Shārik/hum Fī Al-‘Amwli Wa Al-‘Awlādi Wa `Id/hum Wa Mā Ya`iduhumu Ash-Shayţānu ‘Illā Ghurūrāan
17:64 And incite whoever you can among them with your voice, and assault/bring against them your cavalry/horses/riding ˹soldiers˺ and infantry/ foot ˹soldiers˺ and be a partner in the/their wealth and the/their children, and promise them/ and make them promises/ and make promises to them.” And the Satan promises them nothing except deception.
17:64 And incite whoever you can among them with your voice, and assault/bring on them with your cavalry/horses and infantry/on foot and be a partner in the wealth and the children, and promise them.” And the Satan promises them nothing except delusion.
64. Wastafziz manis tata’ta minhum bisawtika wa ajlib ‘alaihim bikhailika wa rajilika wa shaarik hum fil amwaali wal awlaadi wa ‘idhum; wa maa ya’iduhumush Shaitaanu illaa ghurooraa
65. إِنَّ عِبَادِي لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَانٌ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِرَبِّكَ وَكِيلًا
‘Inna `Ibādī Laysa Laka `Alayhim Sulţānun Wa Kafá Birabbika Wa Kīlāan
17:65 “Indeed, ˹as for˺ My ˹faithful˺ servants, you (i.e., satan) will have no authority over them. And your Lord is sufficient as a Guardian.“
17:65 “Indeed, You will have no authority over them My ˹faithful˺ servants. And your Lord is sufficient as a Guardian.“
17:65 “Indeed, My servants not for you over them any authority. And sufficient (is) your Lord (as) a Guardian.“
65. Inna ‘ibaadee laisa laka ‘alaihim sultaan; wa kafaa bi Rabbika Wakeelaa
66. رَبُّكُمُ الَّذِي يُزْجِي لَكُمُ الْفُلْكَ فِي الْبَحْرِ لِتَبْتَغُوا مِنْ فَضْلِهِ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَحِيمًا
Rabbukumu Al-Ladhī Yuzjī Lakumu Al-Fulka Fī Al-Baĥri Litabtaghū Min Fađlihi ‘Innahu Kāna Bikum Raĥīmāan
17:66 Your Lord is the One Who drives the ship for you in the sea, so that you may seek of His Bounty. Indeed, He is Ever Merciful to you.
66. Rabbukumul lazee yuzjee lakumul fulka fil bahri litabtaghoo min fadlih; innahoo kaana bikum Raheemaa
67. وَإِذَا مَسَّكُمُ الضُّرُّ فِي الْبَحْرِ ضَلَّ مَنْ تَدْعُونَ إِلَّا إِيَّاهُ ۖ فَلَمَّا نَجَّاكُمْ إِلَى الْبَرِّ أَعْرَضْتُمْ ۚ وَكَانَ الْإِنْسَانُ كَفُورًا
Wa ‘Idhā Massakumu Ađ-Đurru Fī Al-Baĥri Đalla Man Tad`ūna ‘Illā ‘Īyāhu Falammā Najjākum ‘Ilá Al-Barri ‘A`rađtum Wa Kāna Al-‘Insānu Kafūrāan
17:67 And when the hardship touches you in the sea, lost are who you call except Him Alone. But when He delivers you ˹safely˺ to the land,you turn away. And humankind is ever ungrateful.
67. Wa izaa massakumuddurru fil bahri dalla man tad’oona illaaa iyyaahu falammaa najjaakum ilal barri a’radtum; wa kaanal insaanu kafooraa
68. أَفَأَمِنْتُمْ أَنْ يَخْسِفَ بِكُمْ جَانِبَ الْبَرِّ أَوْ يُرْسِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ حَاصِبًا ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُوا لَكُمْ وَكِيلًا
‘Afa’amintum ‘An Yakhsifa Bikum Jāniba Al-Barri ‘Aw Yursila `Alaykum Ĥāşibāan Thumma Lā Tajidū Lakum Wa Kīlāan
17:68 Do you then feel secure that He will not cause the edge of the land to swallow you or send a storm of stones against you? Then you will not find a guardian for you?
68. Afa amintum any yakhsifa bikum jaanibal barri aw yursila ‘alaikum haasiban summa laa tajidoo lakum wakeelaa
69. أَمْ أَمِنْتُمْ أَنْ يُعِيدَكُمْ فِيهِ تَارَةً أُخْرَىٰ فَيُرْسِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ قَاصِفًا مِنَ الرِّيحِ فَيُغْرِقَكُمْ بِمَا كَفَرْتُمْ ۙ ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُوا لَكُمْ عَلَيْنَا بِهِ تَبِيعًا
‘Am ‘Amintum ‘An Yu`īdakum Fīhi Tāratan ‘Ukhrá Fayursila `Alaykum Qāşifāan Mina Ar-Rīĥi Fayughriqakum Bimā Kafartum Thumma Lā Tajidū Lakum `Alaynā Bihi Tabī`āan
17:69 Or do you feel secure that He will not send you back into it (i.e., the sea) another time, and send upon you a hurricane of the wind, and drown you because you disbelieved? Then you will not find therein an avenger/ followers for you against Us?
69. Am amintum any yu’eedakum feehi taaratan ukhraa fa yursila ‘alaikum qaasifam minar reehi fa yugh riqakum bimaa kafartum summa laa tajidoo lakum ‘alainaa bihee tabee’aa
70. وَلَقَدْ كَرَّمْنَا بَنِي آدَمَ وَحَمَلْنَاهُمْ فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ وَرَزَقْنَاهُمْ مِنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ وَفَضَّلْنَاهُمْ عَلَىٰ كَثِيرٍ مِمَّنْ خَلَقْنَا تَفْضِيلًا
Wa Laqad Karramnā Banī ‘Ādama Wa Ĥamalnāhum Fī Al-Barri Wa Al-Baĥri Wa Razaqnāhum Mina Aţ-Ţayyibāti Wa Fađđalnāhum `Alá Kathīrin Mimman Khalaqnā Tafđīlāan
17:70 And certainly, We have honored the children of Adam and We carried them on the land and the sea, and We have provided them of the good things and We preferred them over many of those whom We have created with preference.
70. Wa laqad karramnaa Baneee aadama wa hamalnaahum fil barri walbahri wa razaqnaahum minat taiyibaati wa faddalnaahum ‘alaa kaseerim mimman khalaqnaa tafdeelaa (section 7)
71. يَوْمَ نَدْعُو كُلَّ أُنَاسٍ بِإِمَامِهِمْ ۖ فَمَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ فَأُولَٰئِكَ يَقْرَءُونَ كِتَابَهُمْ وَلَا يُظْلَمُونَ فَتِيلًا
Yawma Nad`ū Kulla ‘Unāsin Bi’imāmihim Faman ‘Ūtiya Kitābahu Biyamīnihi Fa’ūlā’ika Yaqra’ūna Kitābahum Wa Lā Yužlamūna Fatīlāan
17:71 The Day We will call all human beings with their record/leader, then whoever is given his record in his right ˹hand˺, then those will read their records, and they will not be wronged ˹even as much as˺ a hair on a date seed.
71. Yawma nad’oo kulla unaasim bi imaamihim faman ootiya kitaabahoo bi yameenihee fa ulaaa’ika yaqra’oona kitaabahum wa laa yuzlamoona fateelaa
72. وَمَنْ كَانَ فِي هَٰذِهِ أَعْمَىٰ فَهُوَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ أَعْمَىٰ وَأَضَلُّ سَبِيلًا
Wa Man Kāna Fī Hadhihi ‘A`má Fahuwa Fī Al-‘Ākhirati ‘A`má Wa ‘Ađallu Sabīlāan
17:72 And whoever is blind ˹to the truth˺ in this ˹world˺, then he ˹will be˺ blind in the Hereafter, and more astray ˹from the Right˺ Path.
72. Wa man kaana fee haaziheee a’maa fahuwa fil aakhirati a’maa wa adallu sabeelaa
73. وَإِنْ كَادُوا لَيَفْتِنُونَكَ عَنِ الَّذِي أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ لِتَفْتَرِيَ عَلَيْنَا غَيْرَهُ ۖ وَإِذًا لَاتَّخَذُوكَ خَلِيلًا
Wa ‘In Kādū Layaftinūnaka `Ani Al-Ladhī ‘Awĥaynā ‘Ilayka Litaftariya `Alaynā Ghayrahu Wa ‘Idhāan Lāttakhadhūka Khalīlāan
17:73 And indeed, they were about to tempt/lure you away from that which We revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺, ˹hoping/so˺ that you invent/attribute something else about Us. And then they would have certainly taken you as a close friend.
73. Wa in kaadoo la yaftinoonaka ‘anil lazeee awhainaaa ilaika litaftariya ‘alainaaa ghairahoo wa izallat takhazooka khaleelaa
74. وَلَوْلَا أَنْ ثَبَّتْنَاكَ لَقَدْ كِدْتَ تَرْكَنُ إِلَيْهِمْ شَيْئًا قَلِيلًا
Wa Lawlā ‘An Thabbatnāka Laqad Kidtta Tarkanu ‘Ilayhim Shay’āan Qalīlāan
17:74 And Had it not been that We strengthened you/ We made you firm, certainly, you almost would have inclined to them just a little.
17:74 And if not [that] We (had) strengthened you, certainly, you almost (would) have inclined to them (in) something a little.
74. Wa law laaa an sabbatnaaka laqad kitta tarkanu ilaihim shai’an qaleela
75. إِذًا لَأَذَقْنَاكَ ضِعْفَ الْحَيَاةِ وَضِعْفَ الْمَمَاتِ ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُ لَكَ عَلَيْنَا نَصِيرًا
‘Idhāan La’adhaqnāka Đi`fa Al-Ĥayāati Wa Đi`fa Al-Mamāti Thumma Lā Tajidu Laka `Alaynā Naşīrāan
17:75 Then We would have made you taste double in the life, and double after the death. Then you would not have found for you any helper against Us.
75. Izal la azaqnaaka di’fal hayaati wa di’fal mamaati summa laa tajidu laka ‘alainaa naseeraa
76. وَإِنْ كَادُوا لَيَسْتَفِزُّونَكَ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ لِيُخْرِجُوكَ مِنْهَا ۖ وَإِذًا لَا يَلْبَثُونَ خِلَافَكَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا
Wa ‘In Kādū Layastafizzūnaka Mina Al-‘Arđi Liyukhrijūka Minhā Wa ‘Idhāan Lā Yalbathūna Khilāfaka ‘Illā Qalīlāan
17:76 And indeed, they were about to scare/unsettle you from the land ˹of Mecca˺, so that they drive you out from it. But then they will not stay ˹there˺ after you except for a little while.
76. Wa in kaadoo la yastafizzoonaka minal ardi liyukhri jooka minhaa wa izal laa yalbasoona khilaafaka illaa qaleelaa
77. سُنَّةَ مَنْ قَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا قَبْلَكَ مِنْ رُسُلِنَا ۖ وَلَا تَجِدُ لِسُنَّتِنَا تَحْوِيلًا
Sunnata Man Qad ‘Arsalnā Qablaka Min Rusulinā Wa Lā Tajidu Lisunnatinā Taĥwīlāan
17:77 ˹This has been Our˺ Way for those whom We verily sent before you of Our Messengers. And you will not find any change in Our way.

77. Sunnata man qad arsalnaa qablakamir Rusulinaa wa laa tajidu lisunnatinaa tahweelaa
78. أَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ لِدُلُوكِ الشَّمْسِ إِلَىٰ غَسَقِ اللَّيْلِ وَقُرْآنَ الْفَجْرِ ۖ إِنَّ قُرْآنَ الْفَجْرِ كَانَ مَشْهُودًا
‘Aqimi Aş-Şalāata Lidulūki Ash-Shamsi ‘Ilá Ghasaqi Al-Layli Wa Qur’āna Al-Fajri ‘Inna Qur’āna Al-Fajri Kāna Mash/hūdāan
17:78 Establish the prayer, at the decline of the sun until the darkness of the night and the dawn prayer, indeed, the dawn prayer is ever witnessed.

78. Aqimis Salaata liduloo kish shamsi ilaa ghasaqil laili wa quraanal Fajri inna quraa nal Fajri kaana mashhoodaa
79. وَمِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَتَهَجَّدْ بِهِ نَافِلَةً لَكَ عَسَىٰ أَنْ يَبْعَثَكَ رَبُّكَ مَقَامًا مَحْمُودًا
Wa Mina Al-Layli Fatahajjad Bihi Nāfilatan Laka `Asá ‘An Yab`athaka Rabbuka Maqāmāan Maĥmūdāan
17:79 And ˹in depth/in part/ in last part˺ of the night arise from sleep for prayer with it as an additional ˹prayer/duty˺ for you; it may be that your Lord will raise you to a praiseworthy station.

79. Wa minal laili fatahajjad bihee naafilatal laka ‘asaaa any yab’asaka Rabbuka Maqaamam Mahmoodaa
80. وَقُلْ رَبِّ أَدْخِلْنِي مُدْخَلَ صِدْقٍ وَأَخْرِجْنِي مُخْرَجَ صِدْقٍ وَاجْعَلْ لِي مِنْ لَدُنْكَ سُلْطَانًا نَصِيرًا
Wa Qul Rabbi ‘Adkhilnī Mudkhala Şidqin Wa ‘Akhrijnī Mukhraja Şidqin Wa Aj`al Lī Min Ladunka Sulţānāan Naşīrāan
17:80 And say, “My Lord! cause me to enter an honorable entrance, and to exit an honorable exit and make/grant me a helping authority from near You.”
80. Wa qur Rabbi adkhilnee mudkhala sidqinw wa akhrijnee mukhraja sidqinw waj’al lee milladunka sultaanan naseeraa
81. وَقُلْ جَاءَ الْحَقُّ وَزَهَقَ الْبَاطِلُ ۚ إِنَّ الْبَاطِلَ كَانَ زَهُوقًا
Wa Qul Jā’a Al-Ĥaqqu Wa Zahaqa Al-Bāţilu ‘Inna Al-Bāţila Kāna Zahūqāan
17:81 And say, “The truth has come and the falsehood has vanished. Indeed, the falsehood is ˹bound˺ to vanish.”
81. Wa qul jaaa’al haqqu wa zahaqal baatil; innal baatila kaana zahooqaa
82. وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ مَا هُوَ شِفَاءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۙ وَلَا يَزِيدُ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا خَسَارًا
Wa Nunazzilu Mina Al-Qur’āni Mā Huwa Shifā’un Wa Raĥmatun Lilmu’uminīna Wa Lā Yazīdu Až-Žālimīna ‘Illā Khasārāan
17:82 And We reveal/sent down from the Quran that it is a healing and a mercy for the believers, but it does not increases the wrongdoers except in loss.
82. Wa nunazzilu minal quraani maa huwa shifaaa’unw wa rahmatullil mu’mineena wa laa yazeeduz zaalimeena illaa khasaaraa
83. وَإِذَا أَنْعَمْنَا عَلَى الْإِنْسَانِ أَعْرَضَ وَنَأَىٰ بِجَانِبِهِ ۖ وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ كَانَ يَئُوسًا
Wa ‘Idhā ‘An`amnā `Alá Al-‘Insāni ‘A`rađa Wa Na’á Bijānibihi Wa ‘Idhā Massahu Ash-Sharru Kāna Ya’ūsāan
17:83 And when We grant favor on the human being/people he turns away and keeps away/distances/moves away to his side. And when the evil touches him he is in despair.
83. Wa izaaa an’amnaa ‘alal insaani a’rada wa na-aa bijaani bihee wa izaa massahush sharru kaana ya’oosaa
84. قُلْ كُلٌّ يَعْمَلُ عَلَىٰ شَاكِلَتِهِ فَرَبُّكُمْ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنْ هُوَ أَهْدَىٰ سَبِيلًا
Qul Kullun Ya`malu `Alá Shākilatihi Farabbukum ‘A`lamu Biman Huwa ‘Ahdá Sabīlāan
17:84 Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Everyone acts in their own way/manner, but your Lord is most knowing of him whose way is rightly guided.”
but your Lord is most knowing of who it is that is best guided on the way.”
but your Lord is most knowing of him who is best guided on the way.”
84. Qul kulluny ya’malu ‘alaa shaakilatihee fa rabbukum a’lamu biman huwa ahdaa sabeelaa (section 9)
85. وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الرُّوحِ ۖ قُلِ الرُّوحُ مِنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّي وَمَا أُوتِيتُمْ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا
Wa Yas’alūnaka `Ani Ar-Rūĥi Quli Ar-Rūĥu Min ‘Amri Rabbī Wa Mā ‘Ūtītum Mina Al-`Ilmi ‘Illā Qalīlāan
17:85 And they ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about the soul. Say, “The soul is from the command of my Lord. And you ˹O humanity˺ have not been given from the knowledge except/but a little.”
And you ˹O humanity˺ have not been given except a little of/from the knowledge.”
85. Wa yas’aloonaka ‘anirrooh; qulir roohu min amri rabbee wa maaa ooteetum minal ‘ilmi illaa qaleelaa
86. وَلَئِنْ شِئْنَا لَنَذْهَبَنَّ بِالَّذِي أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُ لَكَ بِهِ عَلَيْنَا وَكِيلًا
Wa La’in Shi’nā Lanadh/habanna Bial-Ladhī ‘Awĥaynā ‘Ilayka Thumma Lā Tajidu Laka Bihi `Alaynā Wa Kīlāan
17:86 And if We willed, We would have surely taken away that which We have revealed to you. Then you would not find for you concerning it any advocate/guardian against Us,
86. Wa la’in shi’naa lanaz habanna billazeee awhainaaa ilaika summa laa tajidu laka bihee ‘alainaa wakeelaa
87. إِلَّا رَحْمَةً مِنْ رَبِّكَ ۚ إِنَّ فَضْلَهُ كَانَ عَلَيْكَ كَبِيرًا
‘Illā Raĥmatan Min Rabbika ‘Inna Fađlahu Kāna `Alayka Kabīrāan
17:87 but ˹it is˺ a mercy from your Lord. Indeed, His Favour upon you is great/huge.
87. Illaa rahmatam mir Rabbik; inna fadlahoo kaana ‘alaika kabeeraa
88. قُلْ لَئِنِ اجْتَمَعَتِ الْإِنْسُ وَالْجِنُّ عَلَىٰ أَنْ يَأْتُوا بِمِثْلِ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنِ لَا يَأْتُونَ بِمِثْلِهِ وَلَوْ كَانَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ ظَهِيرًا
Qul La’ini Ajtama`ati Al-‘Insu Wa Al-Jinnu `Alá ‘An Ya’tū Bimithli Hādhā Al-Qur’āni Lā Ya’tūna Bimithlihi Wa Law Kāna Ba`đuhum Liba`đin Žahīrāan
17:88 Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “If the humankind and the jinn were to come together, that they produce the equivalent of this Quran, they could not produce the like of it/its equal, even if some of them were assistants to some.”
17:88 Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “If the humankind and the jinn gathered to that produce the equivalent of this Quran, they could not produce the like of it/its equal, even if some of them were assistants to some.”
88. Qul la’inij tama’atil insu waljinnu ‘alaaa any ya’too bimisli haazal quraani laa ya’toona bimislihee wa law kaana ba’duhum liba ‘din zaheeraa
89. وَلَقَدْ صَرَّفْنَا لِلنَّاسِ فِي هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنِ مِنْ كُلِّ مَثَلٍ فَأَبَىٰ أَكْثَرُ النَّاسِ إِلَّا كُفُورًا
Wa Laqad Şarrafnā Lilnnāsi Fī Hādhā Al-Qur’āni Min Kulli Mathalin Fa’abá ‘Aktharu An-Nāsi ‘Illā Kufūrāan
17:89 And verily We have explained from every ˹kind of˺ example to humankind in this Quran, but most of the humankind refused except in disbelief.
89. Wa laqad sarrafnaa linnaasi fee haazal quraani min kulli masalin fa abaaa aksarun naasi illaa kufooraa
90. وَقَالُوا لَنْ نُؤْمِنَ لَكَ حَتَّىٰ تَفْجُرَ لَنَا مِنَ الْأَرْضِ يَنْبُوعًا
Wa Qālū Lan Nu’umina Laka Ĥattá Tafjura Lanā Mina Al-‘Arđi Yanbū`āan
17:90 And they say ˹to the Prophet˺, “We will never believe in you until you cause a spring to gush forth from the earth for us.
90. Wa qaaloo lan nu’mina laka hattaa tafjura lanaa minal ardi yamboo’aa
91. أَوْ تَكُونَ لَكَ جَنَّةٌ مِنْ نَخِيلٍ وَعِنَبٍ فَتُفَجِّرَ الْأَنْهَارَ خِلَالَهَا تَفْجِيرًا
‘Aw Takūna Laka Jannatun Min Nakhīlin Wa `Inabin Fatufajjira Al-‘Anhāra Khilālahā Tafjīrāan
17:91 Or ˹until˺ you have for you a garden of date-palms and grapes, and you cause the rivers to gush forth abundantly within them.
91. Aw takoona laka jannatum min nakheelinw wa ‘inabin fatufajjiral anhaara khilaalahaa tafjeeraa
92. أَوْ تُسْقِطَ السَّمَاءَ كَمَا زَعَمْتَ عَلَيْنَا كِسَفًا أَوْ تَأْتِيَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةِ قَبِيلًا
‘Aw Tusqiţa As-Samā’a Kamā Za`amta `Alaynā Kisafāan ‘Aw Ta’tiya Bil-Lahi Wa Al-Malā’ikati Qabīlāan
17:92 Or you cause the sky to fall upon us in pieces, as you have claimed, or you bring Allah and the Angels before us.
92. Aw tusqitas samaaa’a kamaa za’amta ‘alainaa kisafan aw ta’tiya billaahi wal malaaa’ikati qabeelaa
93. أَوْ يَكُونَ لَكَ بَيْتٌ مِنْ زُخْرُفٍ أَوْ تَرْقَىٰ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَلَنْ نُؤْمِنَ لِرُقِيِّكَ حَتَّىٰ تُنَزِّلَ عَلَيْنَا كِتَابًا نَقْرَؤُهُ ۗ قُلْ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّي هَلْ كُنْتُ إِلَّا بَشَرًا رَسُولًا
‘Aw Yakūna Laka Baytun Min Zukhrufin ‘Aw Tarqá Fī As-Samā’i Wa Lan Nu’umina Liruqīyika Ĥattá Tunazzila `Alaynā Kitābāan Naqra’uuhu Qul Subĥāna Rabbī Hal Kuntu ‘Illā Basharāan Rasūlāan
17:93 Or ˹until˺ there is a house of ornament for you or you ascend into the sky. And we will never believe in your ascension until you bring down to us a book that we could/can read it.” Say, “Glorified is my Lord! “I am not but a human Messenger.“
93. Aw yakoona laka baitum min zukhrufin aw tarqaa fis samaaa’i wa lan nu’mina liruqiyyika hatta tunazzila ‘alainaa kitaaban naqra’uh; qul Subhaana Rabbee hal kuntu illaa basharar Rasoolaa (section 10)
94. وَمَا مَنَعَ النَّاسَ أَنْ يُؤْمِنُوا إِذْ جَاءَهُمُ الْهُدَىٰ إِلَّا أَنْ قَالُوا أَبَعَثَ اللَّهُ بَشَرًا رَسُولًا
Wa Mā Mana`a An-Nāsa ‘An Yu’uminū ‘Idh Jā’ahumu Al-Hudá ‘Illā ‘An Qālū ‘Aba`atha Al-Lahu Basharāan Rasūlāan
17:94 And nothing has prevented the people that they believe when the guidance came to them except that they said, “Has Allah sent a human as a Messenger?”
94. Wa maa mana’an naasa any yu’minooo iz jaaa’ahumul hudaaa illaaa an qaalooo aba’asal laahu basharar Rasoolaa
95. قُلْ لَوْ كَانَ فِي الْأَرْضِ مَلَائِكَةٌ يَمْشُونَ مُطْمَئِنِّينَ لَنَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَلَكًا رَسُولًا
Qul Law Kāna Fī Al-‘Arđi Malā’ikatun Yamshūna Muţma’innīna Lanazzalnā `Alayhim Mina As-Samā’i Malakāan Rasūlāan
17:95 Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “If there were Angels walking in the earth, surely We would have sent down to them an Angel from the heaven as a Messenger.”
17:95 Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “If there were in the earth Angels walking securely, surely We (would) have sent down to them from the heaven an Angel (as) a Messenger.”
95. Qul law kaana fil ardi malaaa ‘ikatuny yamshoona mutma’in neena lanazzalnaa ‘alaihim minas samaaa’i malakar Rasoolaa
96. قُلْ كَفَىٰ بِاللَّهِ شَهِيدًا بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ بِعِبَادِهِ خَبِيرًا بَصِيرًا
Qul Kafá Bil-Lahi Shahīdāan Baynī Wa Baynakum ‘Innahu Kāna Bi`ibādihi Khabīrāan Başīrāan
17:96 Say, “Sufficient is Allah as a witness between me and between you. Indeed, He is All-Aware/Knowing, All-Seer/Seeing of His servants.”
96. Qul kafaa billaahi shaheedam bainee wa bainakum; innahoo kaana bi’ibaadihee Khabeeram Baseeraa
97. وَمَنْ يَهْدِ اللَّهُ فَهُوَ الْمُهْتَدِ ۖ وَمَنْ يُضْلِلْ فَلَنْ تَجِدَ لَهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءَ مِنْ دُونِهِ ۖ وَنَحْشُرُهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ عُمْيًا وَبُكْمًا وَصُمًّا ۖ مَأْوَاهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ ۖ كُلَّمَا خَبَتْ زِدْنَاهُمْ سَعِيرًا
Wa Man Yahdi Al-Lahu Fahuwa Al-Muhtadi Wa Man Yuđlil Falan Tajida Lahum ‘Awliyā’a Min Dūnihi Wa Naĥshuruhum Yawma Al-Qiyāmati `Alá Wajūhihim `Umyāan Wa Bukmāan Wa Şummāan Ma’wāhum Jahannamu Kullamā Khabat Zidnāhum Sa`īrāan
17:97 And whoever Allah guides – then he is the guided one; and whoever He leaves to stray – then you will never find for them protectors from besides Him. And We will gather them on the Day of the Resurrection on their faces – blind and dumb and deaf. Their home will be Hell; every time it subsides, We will increase the blazing fire for them.
97. Wa mai yahdil laahu fahuwal muhtad; wa mai yudlil falan tajida lahum awliyaaa’a min doonih; wa nahshuruhum Yawmal Qiyaamati ‘alaa wujoohihim umyanw wa bukmanw wa summaa; ma’waahum Jahannamu kullamaa khabat zidnaahum sa’eeraa
98. ذَٰلِكَ جَزَاؤُهُمْ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا وَقَالُوا أَإِذَا كُنَّا عِظَامًا وَرُفَاتًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ خَلْقًا جَدِيدًا
Dhālika Jazā’uuhum Bi’annahum Kafarū Bi’āyātinā Wa Qālū ‘A’idhā Kunnā `Ižāmāan Wa Rufātāan ‘A’innā Lamab`ūthūna Khalqāan Jadīdāan
17:98 That is their recompense/ reward because they disbelieved in Our Verses and said ˹mockingly˺, “When we are ˹reduced to˺ bones and crumbled particles/ dust/ ashes, will we surely be resurrected/ raised as a new creation.”
98. Zaalika jazaa’uhum bi annahum kafaroo bi aayaatinaa wa qaalooo ‘a izaa kunnaa ‘izaamanw wa rufaatan ‘a innaa la mab’oosoona khalqan jadeedaa
99. أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا أَنَّ اللَّهَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ قَادِرٌ عَلَىٰ أَنْ يَخْلُقَ مِثْلَهُمْ وَجَعَلَ لَهُمْ أَجَلًا لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ فَأَبَى الظَّالِمُونَ إِلَّا كُفُورًا
‘Awalam Yaraw ‘Anna Al-Laha Al-Ladhī Khalaqa As-Samāwāti Wa Al-‘Arđa Qādirun `Alá ‘An Yakhluqa Mithlahum Wa Ja`ala Lahum ‘Ajalāan Lā Rayba Fīhi Fa’abá Až-Žālimūna ‘Illā Kufūrāan
17:99 Have they not seen that Allah, the One Who created the heavens and the earth is Able upon that to create the like of them? And He has made/set a term/time for them, there is no doubt in it. But the wrongdoers refused except in disbelief.
99. Awalam yaraw annal laahal lazee khalaqas samaawaati wal arda qaadirun ‘alaaa any yakhluqa mislahum wa ja’ala lahum ajalal laa raiba fee; fa abaz zaalimoona illaa kufooraa
100. قُلْ لَوْ أَنْتُمْ تَمْلِكُونَ خَزَائِنَ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّي إِذًا لَأَمْسَكْتُمْ خَشْيَةَ الْإِنْفَاقِ ۚ وَكَانَ الْإِنْسَانُ قَتُورًا
Qul Law ‘Antum Tamlikūna Khazā’ina Raĥmati Rabbī ‘Idhāan La’amsaktum Khashyata Al-‘Infāqi Wa Kāna Al-‘Insānu Qatūrāan
17:100 Say, ˹to them, O Prophet˺ “If you were to possess the treasures of the Mercy of my Lord, then surely you would withhold ˹out of˺ fear of spending.” And humankind is ever stingy.
100. Qul law antum tamlikoona khazaaa’ina rahmati Rabbeee izal la amsaktum khash yatal infaaq; wa kaanal insaanu qatooraa (section 11)
101. وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ تِسْعَ آيَاتٍ بَيِّنَاتٍ ۖ فَاسْأَلْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ إِذْ جَاءَهُمْ فَقَالَ لَهُ فِرْعَوْنُ إِنِّي لَأَظُنُّكَ يَا مُوسَىٰ مَسْحُورًا
Wa Laqad ‘Ātaynā Mūsá Tis`a ‘Āyātin Bayyinātin Fās’l Banī ‘Isrā’īla ‘Idh Jā’ahum Faqāla Lahu Fir`awnu ‘Innī La’ažunnuka Yāmūsá Masĥūrāan
17:101 And certainly We had given Moses nine clear Signs, so ˹you, O Prophet, can˺ ask the Children of Israel when he ˹Moses˺ came to them, the Pharaoh said to him ˹Moses˺, “Indeed, I think you, O Moses, are bewitched.”
101. Wa laqad aatainaa Moosaa tis’a Aayaatim baiyinaatin fas’al Baneee Israaa’eela iz jaaa’ahum faqaala lahoo Fir’awnu inee la azunnuka yaa Moosaa mas hooraa
102. قَالَ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَا أَنْزَلَ هَٰؤُلَاءِ إِلَّا رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ بَصَائِرَ وَإِنِّي لَأَظُنُّكَ يَا فِرْعَوْنُ مَثْبُورًا
Qāla Laqad `Alimta Mā ‘Anzala Hā’uulā’ ‘Illā Rabbu As-Samāwāti Wa Al-‘Arđi Başā’ira Wa ‘Innī La’ažunnuka Yā Fir`awnu Mathbūrāan
17:102 He ˹Moses˺ said, “Verily, you know that none has sent down these ˹signs˺ except the Lord of the heavens and the earth as evidence/insight, and indeed, I surely think you, O Pharaoh, are destroyed.“
102. Qaala laqad ‘alimta maaa anzala haaa’ulaaa’i illaa Rabbus samaawaati wal ardi basaaa’ira wa innee la azun nuka yaa Fir’awnu masbooraa
103. فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَسْتَفِزَّهُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ فَأَغْرَقْنَاهُ وَمَنْ مَعَهُ جَمِيعًا
Fa’arāda ‘An Yastafizzahum Mina Al-‘Arđi Fa’aghraqnāhu Wa Man Ma`ahu Jamī`āan
17:103 So he (i.e., pharaoh) wanted to drive them (i.e., Israelites) out from the land ˹of Egypt˺, but We drowned him and ˹all those˺ who were with him.
103. Fa araada any yastafizzahum minal ardi fa aghraqnaahu wa mam ma’ahoo jamee’aa
104. وَقُلْنَا مِنْ بَعْدِهِ لِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ اسْكُنُوا الْأَرْضَ فَإِذَا جَاءَ وَعْدُ الْآخِرَةِ جِئْنَا بِكُمْ لَفِيفًا
Wa Qulnā Min Ba`dihi Libanī ‘Isrā’īla Askunū Al-‘Arđa Fa’idhā Jā’a Wa`du Al-‘Ākhirati Ji’nā Bikum Lafīfāan
17:104 And We said to the Children of Israel from after him (i.e., pharaoh), “Reside in the land, then when the promise of the Hereafter comes, We will bring you all together/ as a mixed crowd.“
104. Wa qulnaa min ba’dihee li Baneee Israaa’eelas kunul arda fa izaa jaaa’a wa’dul aakhirati ji’naa bikum lafeefaa
105. وَبِالْحَقِّ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ وَبِالْحَقِّ نَزَلَ ۗ وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا مُبَشِّرًا وَنَذِيرًا
Wa Bil-Ĥaqqi ‘Anzalnāhu Wa Bil-Ĥaqqi Nazala Wa Mā ‘Arsalnāka ‘Illā Mubashshirāan Wa Nadhīrāan
17:105 And We sent it (i.e., The Quran) down with the truth, and with the truth it descended/ it has come down. And We have not sent you ˹O Prophet˺ except as a deliverer of good news and a warner.
105. Wa bilhaqqi anzalnaahu wa bilhaqqi nazal; wa maaa arsalnaaka illaa mubash shiranw wa nazeeraa
106. وَقُرْآنًا فَرَقْنَاهُ لِتَقْرَأَهُ عَلَى النَّاسِ عَلَىٰ مُكْثٍ وَنَزَّلْنَاهُ تَنْزِيلًا
Wa Qur’ānāan Faraqnāhu Litaqra’ahu `Alá An-Nāsi `Alá Mukthin Wa Nazzalnāhu Tanzīlāan
17:106 And ˹It is˺ the Quran We have separated ˹by intervals˺, so that you might recite it to the people at/over intervals/ a prolonged period. And We have sent it down in stages.
106. Wa quraanan faraqnaahu litaqra ahoo ‘alan naasi ‘alaa muksinw wa nazzalnaahu tanzeelaa
107. قُلْ آمِنُوا بِهِ أَوْ لَا تُؤْمِنُوا ۚ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْعِلْمَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِ إِذَا يُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ يَخِرُّونَ لِلْأَذْقَانِ سُجَّدًا
Qul ‘Āminū Bihi ‘Aw Lā Tu’uminū ‘Inna Al-Ladhīna ‘Ūtū Al-`Ilma Min Qablihi ‘Idhā Yutlá `Alayhim Yakhirrūna Lil’adhqāni Sujjadāan
17:107 Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Believe in it (i.e., Quran) or do not believe. Indeed, those who were given the knowledge from before it, when it is recited to them, they fall upon their faces in prostration.”
107. Qul aaminoo biheee aw laa tu’minoo; innal lazeena ootul ‘ilma min qabliheee izaa yutlaa ‘alaihim yakhirroona lil azqaani sujjadaa
108. وَيَقُولُونَ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّنَا إِنْ كَانَ وَعْدُ رَبِّنَا لَمَفْعُولًا
Wa Yaqūlūna Subĥāna Rabbinā ‘In Kāna Wa`du Rabbinā Lamaf`ūlāan
17:108 And they say, “Glory be to our Lord! Indeed, the promise of our Lord is surely fulfilled.”
108. Wa yaqooloona Subhaana Rabbinaaa in kaana wa’du Rabbinaa lamaf’oolaa
109. وَيَخِرُّونَ لِلْأَذْقَانِ يَبْكُونَ وَيَزِيدُهُمْ خُشُوعًا ۩
Wa Yakhirrūna Lil’adhqāni Yabkūna Wa Yazīduhum Khushū`āan
17:109 And they fall upon their faces weeping, and it increases them in humility.
109. Wa yakhirroona lil azqaani yabkoona wa yazeeduhum khushoo’aa (make sajda)
110. قُلِ ادْعُوا اللَّهَ أَوِ ادْعُوا الرَّحْمَٰنَ ۖ أَيًّا مَا تَدْعُوا فَلَهُ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ وَلَا تَجْهَرْ بِصَلَاتِكَ وَلَا تُخَافِتْ بِهَا وَابْتَغِ بَيْنَ ذَٰلِكَ سَبِيلًا
Qul Ad`ū Al-Laha ‘Aw Ad`ū Ar-Raĥmana ‘Ayyāanan Mā Tad`ū Falahu Al-‘Asmā’u Al-Ĥusná Wa Lā Tajhar Bişalātika Wa Lā Tukhāfit Bihā Wa Abtaghi Bayna Dhālika Sabīlāan
17:110 Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Call upon Allah or call upon the Most Gracious. By whichever you call, to Him belongs the Most Beautiful Names. And do not be loud in your prayers and nor be silent in it, but seek a way between that.“
110. Qulid’ul laaha awid’ur Rahmaana ayyam maa tad’oo falahul asmaaa’ul Husnaa; wa laa tajhar bi Salaatika wa laa tukhaafit bihaa wabtaghi baina zaalika sabeela
111. وَقُلِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي لَمْ يَتَّخِذْ وَلَدًا وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ شَرِيكٌ فِي الْمُلْكِ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ وَلِيٌّ مِنَ الذُّلِّ ۖ وَكَبِّرْهُ تَكْبِيرًا
Wa Quli Al-Ĥamdu Lillahi Al-Ladhī Lam Yattakhidh Waladāan Wa Lam Yakun Lahu Sharīkun Fī Al-Mulki Wa Lam Yakun Lahu Wa Līyun Mina Adh-Dhulli Wa Kabbirhu Takbīrāan
17:111 And say, “All Praise is for Allah the One Who has not taken a son and nor there is a partner for Him in the dominion, and nor there is any protector for Him out of weakness. And magnify Him with all magnificence.”

111. Wa qulil hamdu lillaahil lazee lam yattakhiz waladanw wa lam yakul lahoo shareekun fil mulki wa lam yakul lahoo waliyyum minaz zulli wa kabbirhu takbeeraa (section 12)
