1. الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَنْزَلَ عَلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ الْكِتَابَ وَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ عِوَجًا
Al-Ĥamdu Lillahi Al-Ladhī ‘Anzala `Alá `Abdihi Al-Kitāba Wa Lam Yaj`al Llahu `Iwajā
18:1 All Praise is for Allah the One Who has revealed the Book to His servant, and allowing no crookedness in it.
1. Alhamdu lillaahil lazeee anzala ‘alaa ‘abdihil kitaaba wa lam yaj’al lahoo ‘iwajaa
2. قَيِّمًا لِيُنْذِرَ بَأْسًا شَدِيدًا مِنْ لَدُنْهُ وَيُبَشِّرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ الَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ الصَّالِحَاتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ أَجْرًا حَسَنًا
Qayyimāan Liyundhira Ba’sāan Shadīdāan Min Ladunhu Wa Yubashshira Al-Mu’uminīna Al-Ladhīna Ya`malūna Aş-Şāliĥāti ‘Anna Lahum ‘Ajrāan Ĥasanāan
18:2 ˹making it˺ perfectly upright, to warn ˹the disbelievers˺ of a severe punishment, from near Him, and give good news to the believers, those who do righteous deeds, that they will have is a good reward
2. Qaiyimal liyunzira ba’asan shadeedam mil ladunhu wa yubashshiral mu’mineenal lazeena ya’maloonas saalihaati anna lahum ajran hasanaa
3. مَاكِثِينَ فِيهِ أَبَدًا
Mākithīna Fīhi ‘Abadāan
18:3 In which they will remain forever.
3. Maakiseena feehi abadaa
4. وَيُنْذِرَ الَّذِينَ قَالُوا اتَّخَذَ اللَّهُ وَلَدًا
Wa Yundhira Al-Ladhīna Qālū Attakhadha Al-Lahu Waladāan
18:4 and to warn those who say, “Allah has taken a son (i.e., offpsring).”
4. Wa yunziral lazeena qaalut takhazal laahu waladaa
5. مَا لَهُمْ بِهِ مِنْ عِلْمٍ وَلَا لِآبَائِهِمْ ۚ كَبُرَتْ كَلِمَةً تَخْرُجُ مِنْ أَفْوَاهِهِمْ ۚ إِنْ يَقُولُونَ إِلَّا كَذِبًا
Mmā Lahum Bihi Min `Ilmin Wa Lā Li’ābā’ihim Kaburat Kalimatan Takhruju Min ‘Afwāhihim ‘In Yaqūlūna ‘Illā Kadhibāan
18:5 They do not have any knowledge about it and nor did their forefathers. Mighty is the word (i.e., claim) that comes out of their mouths. They say nothing but a lie.
5. Maa lahum bihee min ‘ilminw wa laa li aabaaa’ihim; kaburat kalimatan takhruju min afwaahihim; iny yaqooloona illaa kazibaa
6. فَلَعَلَّكَ بَاخِعٌ نَفْسَكَ عَلَىٰ آثَارِهِمْ إِنْ لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا بِهَٰذَا الْحَدِيثِ أَسَفًا
Fala`allaka Bākhi`un Nafsaka `Alá ‘Āthārihim ‘In Lam Yu’uminū Bihadhā Al-Ĥadīthi ‘Asafāan
18:6 Then perhaps/may be you ˹O Prophet˺ will grieve yourself to death over their footsteps (i.e., denial), if they do not believe in this narration, out of grief.
18:6 Then perhaps you would be the one who kills yourself over their footsteps, if they do not believe in this narration, in grief.
6. Fala’allaka baakhi’un nafsaka ‘alaaa aasaarihim illam yu’minoo bihaazal hadeesi asafaa
7. إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا مَا عَلَى الْأَرْضِ زِينَةً لَهَا لِنَبْلُوَهُمْ أَيُّهُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا
‘Innā Ja`alnā Mā `Alá Al-‘Arđi Zīnatan Lahā Linabluwahum ‘Ayyuhum ‘Aĥsanu `Amalāan
18:7 Indeed, We have made whatever is on the earth as an adornment/ a decoration (i.e., attraction or decoration or attractive thing or means of beautification) for it (i.e., earth), so that We may test which of them is best in deeds.
7. Innaa ja’alnaa ma ‘alal ardi zeenatal lahaa linabluwahum ayyuhum ahsanu ‘amalaa
8. وَإِنَّا لَجَاعِلُونَ مَا عَلَيْهَا صَعِيدًا جُرُزًا
Wa ‘Innā Lajā`ilūna Mā `Alayhā Şa`īdāan Juruzāan
18:8 And indeed, We will surely make whatever is on it (i.e., earth) to barren ground.
8. Wa innaa la jaa’iloona maa ‘alaihaa sa’eedan juruzaa
9. أَمْ حَسِبْتَ أَنَّ أَصْحَابَ الْكَهْفِ وَالرَّقِيمِ كَانُوا مِنْ آيَاتِنَا عَجَبًا
‘Am Ĥasibta ‘Anna ‘Aşĥāba Al-Kahfi Wa Ar-Raqīmi Kānū Min ‘Āyātinā `Ajabāan
18:9 Or you ˹O Prophet˺ think that the companions of the cave and the inscription/ plaque were a wonder among Our Signs?
9. Am hasibta anna Ashaabal Kahfi war Raqeemi kaanoo min Aayaatinaa ‘ajabaa
10. إِذْ أَوَى الْفِتْيَةُ إِلَى الْكَهْفِ فَقَالُوا رَبَّنَا آتِنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً وَهَيِّئْ لَنَا مِنْ أَمْرِنَا رَشَدًا
‘Idh ‘Awá Al-Fityatu ‘Ilá Al-Kahfi Faqālū Rabbanā ‘Ātinā Min Ladunka Raĥmatan Wa Hayyi’ Lanā Min ‘Amrinā Rashadāan
18:10 ˹Remember˺ When the young men took shelter to the cave, and they said, “Our Lord! Grant us Mercy from Yourself, and facilitate/ provide us/ make easy for us from our affair/matter in the/a right way.”
10. Iz awal fityatu ilal Kahfi faqaaloo Rabbanaaa aatinaa mil ladunka rahmatanw wa haiyi’ lanaa min amrinaa rashadaa
11. فَضَرَبْنَا عَلَىٰ آذَانِهِمْ فِي الْكَهْفِ سِنِينَ عَدَدًا
Fađarabnā `Alá ‘Ādhānihim Fī Al-Kahfi Sinīna `Adadāan
18:11 So We sealed over their ears ˹to fall into a deep sleep˺ in the cave for a number of years.
11. Fadarabnaa ‘alaaa aazaanihim fil Kahfi seneena ‘adadaa
12. ثُمَّ بَعَثْنَاهُمْ لِنَعْلَمَ أَيُّ الْحِزْبَيْنِ أَحْصَىٰ لِمَا لَبِثُوا أَمَدًا
Thumma Ba`athnāhum Lina`lama ‘Ayyu Al-Ĥizbayni ‘Aĥşá Limā Labithū ‘Amadāan
18:12 Then We raised/awakened (i.e., woke) them up so that We make evident/may show/ may know/know which of the two groups (i.e., amongst young men) best calculated the ˹length of˺ time for what they had stayed (i.e., slept in the cave).
12. Summa ba’asnaahum lina’lama ayyul hizbaini ahsaa limaa labisooo amadaa (section 1)
The young men broke up into 2 groups amongst each other.
13. نَحْنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ نَبَأَهُمْ بِالْحَقِّ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ فِتْيَةٌ آمَنُوا بِرَبِّهِمْ وَزِدْنَاهُمْ هُدًى
Naĥnu Naquşşu `Alayka Naba’ahum Bil-Ĥaqqi ‘Innahum Fityatun ‘Āmanū Birabbihim Wa Zidnāhum Hudáan
18:13 We narrate to you ˹O Prophet˺ their story in truth. Indeed, they were youths who believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance.
13. Nahnu naqussu ‘alaika naba ahum bilhaqq; innahum fityatun aamanoo bi Rabbihim wa zidnaahum hudaa
14. وَرَبَطْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ إِذْ قَامُوا فَقَالُوا رَبُّنَا رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ لَنْ نَدْعُوَ مِنْ دُونِهِ إِلَٰهًا ۖ لَقَدْ قُلْنَا إِذًا شَطَطًا
Wa Rabaţnā `Alá Qulūbihim ‘Idh Qāmū Faqālū Rabbunā Rabbu As-Samāwāti Wa Al-‘Arđi Lan Nad`uwa Min Dūnihi ‘Ilahāan Laqad Qulnā ‘Idhāan Shaţaţāan
18:14 And We made firm/ strengthened upon their hearts when they stood up and said, “Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. We will never call any god from besides Him. Certainly, we would have said/uttered an excessive transgression/ an excess (i.e., outrageous lie) then.
Certainly, we would have then said/uttered an excess (i.e., outrageous lie) .
14. Wa rabatnaa ‘alaa quloo bihim iz qaamoo faqaaloo Rabbunaa Rabbus samaawaati wal ardi lan nad’uwa min dooniheee ilaahal laqad qulnaaa izan shatataa
15. هَٰؤُلَاءِ قَوْمُنَا اتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِهِ آلِهَةً ۖ لَوْلَا يَأْتُونَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِسُلْطَانٍ بَيِّنٍ ۖ فَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ افْتَرَىٰ عَلَى اللَّهِ كَذِبًا
Hā’uulā‘ Qawmunā Attakhadhū Min Dūnihi ‘Ālihatan Lawlā Ya’tūna `Alayhim Bisulţānin Bayyinin Faman ‘Ažlamu Mimmani Aftará `Alá Al-Lahi Kadhibāan
18:15 ˹Then they said to one another,˺ These people of ours have taken gods from besides Him. Why do they not come with a clear authority on/for/about them (i.e., gods)? And who does more wrong than those who invent/ fabricate lies against Allah?
15. Haaa’ulaaa’i qawmunat takhazoo min dooniheee aalihatal law laa yaatoona ‘alaihim bisultaanim baiyin; faman azlamu mimmaniftaraa ‘alal laahi kazibaa
16. وَإِذِ اعْتَزَلْتُمُوهُمْ وَمَا يَعْبُدُونَ إِلَّا اللَّهَ فَأْوُوا إِلَى الْكَهْفِ يَنْشُرْ لَكُمْ رَبُّكُمْ مِنْ رَحْمَتِهِ وَيُهَيِّئْ لَكُمْ مِنْ أَمْرِكُمْ مِرْفَقًا
Wa ‘Idh A`tazaltumūhum Wa Mā Ya`budūna ‘Illā Al-Laha Fa’wū ‘Ilá Al-Kahfi Yanshur Lakum Rabbukum Min Raĥmatihi Wa Yuhayyi’ Lakum Min ‘Amrikum Mirfaqāan
18:16 And when you have distanced yourselves from them and what they worship except Allah, then retreat/take refuge/ protection to/ in the cave. Your Lord will extend/expand/ spread for you from His Mercy and will prepare ease for you from your affair.”
and will facilitate/prepare for you from your affair in ease
16. Wa izi’tazal tumoohum wa maa ya’budoona illal laaha faawooo ilal kahfi yanshur lakum Rabbukum mir rahmatihee wa yuhaiyi’ lakum min amrikum mirfaqa
17. وَتَرَى الشَّمْسَ إِذَا طَلَعَتْ تَزَاوَرُ عَنْ كَهْفِهِمْ ذَاتَ الْيَمِينِ وَإِذَا غَرَبَتْ تَقْرِضُهُمْ ذَاتَ الشِّمَالِ وَهُمْ فِي فَجْوَةٍ مِنْهُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ ۗ مَنْ يَهْدِ اللَّهُ فَهُوَ الْمُهْتَدِ ۖ وَمَنْ يُضْلِلْ فَلَنْ تَجِدَ لَهُ وَلِيًّا مُرْشِدًا
Wa Tará Ash-Shamsa ‘Idhā Ţala`at Tazāwaru `An Kahfihim Dhāta Al-Yamīni Wa ‘Idhā Gharabat Taqriđuhum Dhāta Ash-Shimāli Wa Hum Fī Fajwatin Minhu Dhālika Min ‘Āyāti Al-Lahi Man Yahdi Al-Lahu Fahuwa Al-Muhtadi Wa Man Yuđlil Falan Tajida Lahu Walīyāan Murshidāan
18:17 And you would have seen the sun, when it rose, inclining away from their cave to the right, and when it set, passing/declining away from them to the left while they lay in the open space of it (i.e., cave). That is from the Signs of Allah. Whoever Allah guides, then he is the guided one, and whoever He leaves to go astray then you will never find for him a guiding protector.
17. Wa tarash shamsa izaa tala’at tazaawaru ‘an kahfihim zaatal yameeni wa izaa gharabat taqriduhum zaatash shimaali wa hum fee fajwatim minh; zaalika min Aayaatillaah; mai yahdil laahu fahuwal muhtad, wa mai yudlil falan tajida lahoo waliyyam murshidaa (section 2)
18. وَتَحْسَبُهُمْ أَيْقَاظًا وَهُمْ رُقُودٌ ۚ وَنُقَلِّبُهُمْ ذَاتَ الْيَمِينِ وَذَاتَ الشِّمَالِ ۖ وَكَلْبُهُمْ بَاسِطٌ ذِرَاعَيْهِ بِالْوَصِيدِ ۚ لَوِ اطَّلَعْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ لَوَلَّيْتَ مِنْهُمْ فِرَارًا وَلَمُلِئْتَ مِنْهُمْ رُعْبًا
Wa Taĥsabuhum ‘Ayqāžāan Wa Hum Ruqūdun Wa Nuqallibuhum Dhāta Al-Yamīni Wa Dhāta Ash-Shimāli Wa Kalbuhum Bāsiţun Dhirā`ayhi Bil-Waşīdi Lawi Aţţala`ta `Alayhim Lawallayta Minhum Firārāan Wa Lamuli’ta Minhum Ru`bāan
18:18 And you would think they were awake while they were asleep. And We turned them over to the right and to the left, while their dog stretched/extending his two forelegs at the entrance. If you had looked at them, you would have turned back from them in flight/, running away and you would have been filled with fear of them.
18. Wa tahsabuhum ayqaazanw wa hum ruqood; wa nuqallibuhum zaatal yameeni wa zaatash shimaali wa kalbuhum baasitun ziraa’ayhi bilwaseed; lawit tala’ta ‘alaihim la wallaita minhum firaaranw wa lamuli’ta minhum ru’ba
19. وَكَذَٰلِكَ بَعَثْنَاهُمْ لِيَتَسَاءَلُوا بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ قَالَ قَائِلٌ مِنْهُمْ كَمْ لَبِثْتُمْ ۖ قَالُوا لَبِثْنَا يَوْمًا أَوْ بَعْضَ يَوْمٍ ۚ قَالُوا رَبُّكُمْ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا لَبِثْتُمْ فَابْعَثُوا أَحَدَكُمْ بِوَرِقِكُمْ هَٰذِهِ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ فَلْيَنْظُرْ أَيُّهَا أَزْكَىٰ طَعَامًا فَلْيَأْتِكُمْ بِرِزْقٍ مِنْهُ وَلْيَتَلَطَّفْ وَلَا يُشْعِرَنَّ بِكُمْ أَحَدًا
Wa Kadhalika Ba`athnāhum Liyatasā’alū Baynahum Qāla Qā’ilun Minhum Kam Labithtum Qālū Labithnā Yawmāan ‘Aw Ba`đa Yawmin Qālū Rabbukum ‘A`lamu Bimā Labithtum Fāb`athū ‘Aĥadakum Biwariqikum Hadhihi ‘Ilá Al-Madīnati Falyanžur ‘Ayyuhā ‘Azká Ţa`āmāan Falya’tikum Birizqin Minhu Wa Līatalaţţaf Wa Lā Yush`iranna Bikum ‘Aĥadāan
18:19 And so, We raised/awakened them so that they might question among them/themselves/ one another. A speaker among them said, “How long have you remained ˹asleep˺?“ They said, “We have remained a day or a part of a day.” They said, ˹to one another˺, “Your Lord knows best how long you have remained. So send one of you with this silver coin of yours to the city, and let him see which food is the purest, and let him bring to/for you provision from it, and let him be cautious. And do not make anyone aware about you.”
19. Wa kazaalika ba’asnaahum liyatasaaa’aloo bainahum; qaala qaaa’ilum minhum kam labistum qaaloo labisnaa yawman aw ba’da yawm; qaaloo Rabbukum a’lamu bimaa labistum fab’asooo ahadakum biwariqikum haazihee ilal madeenati falyanzur ayyuhaaa azkaa ta’aaman falyaatikum birizqim minhu walyatalattaf wa laa yush’iranna bikum ahadaa
20. إِنَّهُمْ إِنْ يَظْهَرُوا عَلَيْكُمْ يَرْجُمُوكُمْ أَوْ يُعِيدُوكُمْ فِي مِلَّتِهِمْ وَلَنْ تُفْلِحُوا إِذًا أَبَدًا
‘Innahum ‘In Yažharū `Alaykum Yarjumūkum ‘Aw Yu`īdūkum Fī Millatihim Wa Lan Tufliĥū ‘Idhāan ‘Abadāan
18:20 “Indeed, if they come to know about you, they will stone you ˹to death˺ or return you to their religion/faith. And then you will never/not succeed, ever.“
20. Innahum iny yazharoo ‘alaikum yarjumookum aw yu’eedookum fee millatihim wa lan tuflihooo izan abadaa
21. وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَعْثَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ لِيَعْلَمُوا أَنَّ وَعْدَ اللَّهِ حَقٌّ وَأَنَّ السَّاعَةَ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهَا إِذْ يَتَنَازَعُونَ بَيْنَهُمْ أَمْرَهُمْ ۖ فَقَالُوا ابْنُوا عَلَيْهِمْ بُنْيَانًا ۖ رَبُّهُمْ أَعْلَمُ بِهِمْ ۚ قَالَ الَّذِينَ غَلَبُوا عَلَىٰ أَمْرِهِمْ لَنَتَّخِذَنَّ عَلَيْهِمْ مَسْجِدًا
Wa Kadhalika ‘A`tharnā `Alayhim Liya`lamū ‘Anna Wa`da Al-Lahi Ĥaqqun Wa ‘Anna As-Sā`ata Lā Rayba Fīhā ‘Idh Yatanāza`ūna Baynahum ‘Amrahum Faqālū Abnū `Alayhim Bunyānāan Rabbuhum ‘A`lamu Bihim Qāla Al-Ladhīna Ghalabū `Alá ‘Amrihim Lanattakhidhanna `Alayhim Masjidāan
18:21 And similarly/thus/ so, We made known about them, so that they (i.e., their people) might know that the Promise of Allah is true, and that about the Hour there is no doubt. When they (i.e., their people) disputed among themselves about their (i.e., youths) matter and they said, “Build a structure over them (i.e., youths). Their Lord knows best about them.” Those who prevailed in their matter said, “Surely we will take (i.e., build) a place of worship over them.”
and that (about) the Hour (there is) no doubt in it.
21. Wa kazaalika a’sarnaa ‘alaihim liya’lamooo anna wa’dal laahi haqqunw wa annas Saa’ata laa raiba feehaa iz yatanaaza’oona bainahum amrahum faqaalub noo ‘alaihim bunyaanaa; Rabbuhum a’lamu bihim; qaalal lazeena ghalaboo ‘alaaa amrihim lanat takhizanna ‘alaihim masjidaa
22. سَيَقُولُونَ ثَلَاثَةٌ رَابِعُهُمْ كَلْبُهُمْ وَيَقُولُونَ خَمْسَةٌ سَادِسُهُمْ كَلْبُهُمْ رَجْمًا بِالْغَيْبِ ۖ وَيَقُولُونَ سَبْعَةٌ وَثَامِنُهُمْ كَلْبُهُمْ ۚ قُلْ رَبِّي أَعْلَمُ بِعِدَّتِهِمْ مَا يَعْلَمُهُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلٌ ۗ فَلَا تُمَارِ فِيهِمْ إِلَّا مِرَاءً ظَاهِرًا وَلَا تَسْتَفْتِ فِيهِمْ مِنْهُمْ أَحَدًا
Sayaqūlūna Thalāthatun Rābi`uhum Kalbuhum Wa Yaqūlūna Khamsatun Sādisuhum Kalbuhum Rajmāan Bil-Ghaybi Wa Yaqūlūna Sab`atun Wa Thāminuhum Kalbuhum Qul Rabbī ‘A`lamu Bi`iddatihim Mā Ya`lamuhum ‘Illā Qalīlun Falā Tumāri Fīhim ‘Illā Mirā’an Žāhirāan Wa Lā Tastafti Fīhim Minhum ‘Aĥadāan
18:22 They (i.e., their people) say, they (i.e., youths) were three, the fourth of/among them was their dog; and they say they were five the sixth of/among them was their dog – ˹only˺ guessing about the unseen; and they say, they were seven and the eight of/among them was their dog. Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “My Lord, knows best their ˹exact˺ number. None knows them except a few. So do not argue about them except with a clear argument, and do not inquire about them from anyone among them.”
22. Sa yaqooloona salaasatur raabi’uhum kalbuhum wa yaqooloona khamsatun saadisuhum kalbuhum rajmam bilghaib; wa yaqooloona sab’atunw wa saaminuhum kalbuhum; qur Rabbeee a’lamu bi’iddatihim maa ya’lamuhum illaa qaleel; falaa tumaari feehim illaa miraaa’an zaahiranw wa laa tastafti feehim minhum ahadaa (section 3)
23. وَلَا تَقُولَنَّ لِشَيْءٍ إِنِّي فَاعِلٌ ذَٰلِكَ غَدًا
Wa Lā Taqūlanna Lishay’in ‘Innī Fā`ilun Dhālika Ghadāan
18:23 And never say of anything, “Indeed, I will do that tomorrow.”
23. Wa laa taqoolanna lishai’in innee faa’ilun zaalika ghadaa
24. إِلَّا أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ ۚ وَاذْكُرْ رَبَّكَ إِذَا نَسِيتَ وَقُلْ عَسَىٰ أَنْ يَهْدِيَنِ رَبِّي لِأَقْرَبَ مِنْ هَٰذَا رَشَدًا
‘Illā ‘An Yashā’a Al-Lahu Wa Adhkur Rabbaka ‘Idhā Nasīta Wa Qul `Asá ‘An Yahdiyani Rabbī Li’qraba Min Hādhā Rashadāan
18:24 Except, ˹with the saying˺ “If Allah wills.” And remember your Lord when you forget ˹it˺ and say, “It may be that my Lord will guide me to a nearer right way than this.”
24. Illaaa any yashaaa’al laah; wazkur Rabbaka izaa naseeta wa qul ‘asaaa any yahdiyani Rabbee li aqraba min haazaa rashadaa
my Lord will guide me to a closer than this in guidance.”
my Lord will guide me to a nearest/closer guidance than this.”
my Lord will guide me to a nearest right way than this.”
my Lord will guide me nearest to the right way than this.
my Lord will guide me to nearest of the right way than this.
my Lord will guide me to nearest of this right way.
25. وَلَبِثُوا فِي كَهْفِهِمْ ثَلَاثَ مِائَةٍ سِنِينَ وَازْدَادُوا تِسْعًا
Wa Labithū Fī Kahfihim Thalātha Miā’atin Sinīna Wa Azdādū Tis`āan
18:25 And they remained in their cave for three hundred years and they added/ and some added/ and adding/ and they increased nine.
25. Wa labisoo fee kahfihim salaasa mi’atin sineena wazdaadoo tis’aa
26. قُلِ اللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا لَبِثُوا ۖ لَهُ غَيْبُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۖ أَبْصِرْ بِهِ وَأَسْمِعْ ۚ مَا لَهُمْ مِنْ دُونِهِ مِنْ وَلِيٍّ وَلَا يُشْرِكُ فِي حُكْمِهِ أَحَدًا
Quli Al-Lahu ‘A`lamu Bimā Labithū Lahu Ghaybu As-Samāwāti Wa Al-‘Arđi ‘Abşir Bihi Wa ‘Asmi` Mā Lahum Min Dūnihi Min Wa Līyin Wa Lā Yushriku Fī Ĥukmihi ‘Aĥadāan
18:26 Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Allah knows best about what ˹period˺ they remained/stayed. For Him ˹alone˺ is ˹the knowledge of˺ the unseen of the heavens and the earth. How perfectly He sees! And how perfectly He hears! of it. They do not have any protector from besides Him, and He allows no one to share in His Decision.”
and He does not allow anyone to share in His Decision.”

26. Qulil laahu a’lamu bimaa labisoo lahoo ghaibus samaawaati wal ardi absir bihee wa asmi’; maa lahum min doonihee minw waliyyinw wa laa yushriku fee hukmihee ahadaa
27. وَاتْلُ مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ كِتَابِ رَبِّكَ ۖ لَا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَاتِهِ وَلَنْ تَجِدَ مِنْ دُونِهِ مُلْتَحَدًا
Wa Atlu Mā ‘Ūĥiya ‘Ilayka Min Kitābi Rabbika Lā Mubaddila Likalimātihi Wa Lan Tajida Min Dūnihi Multaĥadāan
18:27 And recite what has been revealed to you from the Book of your Lord. None can change His Words and nor you will find any refuge from besides Him.
27. Watlu maaa oohiya ilaika min Kitaabi Rabbika laa mubaddila li Kalimaatihee wa lan tajida min doonihee multahadaa
28. وَاصْبِرْ نَفْسَكَ مَعَ الَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُمْ بِالْغَدَاةِ وَالْعَشِيِّ يُرِيدُونَ وَجْهَهُ ۖ وَلَا تَعْدُ عَيْنَاكَ عَنْهُمْ تُرِيدُ زِينَةَ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۖ وَلَا تُطِعْ مَنْ أَغْفَلْنَا قَلْبَهُ عَنْ ذِكْرِنَا وَاتَّبَعَ هَوَاهُ وَكَانَ أَمْرُهُ فُرُطًا
Wa Aşbir Nafsaka Ma`a Al-Ladhīna Yad`ūna Rabbahum Bil-Ghadāati Wa Al-`Ashīyi Yurīdūna Wajhahu Wa Lā Ta`du `Aynāka `Anhum Turīdu Zīnata Al-Ĥayāati Ad-Dunyā Wa Lā Tuţi` Man ‘Aghfalnā Qalbahu `An Dhikrinā Wa Attaba`a Hawāhu Wa Kāna ‘Amruhu Furuţāan
18:28 And keep yourself patient with those who call their Lord in the morning and the evening desiring His Face (i.e., Pleasure). And do not let your eyes turn away/pass beyond from them, desiring adornment/ luxuries of the life of the world, and do not obey whose heart We have made heedless/neglectful (i.e., neglected) of Our remembrance, and who follows his desires and his affair is in excess/ excess of the limit/ excess (i.e., beyond limits).
28. Wasbir nafsaka ma’al lazeena yad’oona Rabbahum bilghadaati wal’ashiyyi yureedoona Wajhahoo wa laa ta’du ‘aynaaka ‘anhum tureedu zeenatal hayaatid dunyaa wa laa tuti’ man aghfalnaa qalbahoo ‘an zikrinaa wattaba’a hawaahu wa kaana amruhoo furutaa
29. وَقُلِ الْحَقُّ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ ۖ فَمَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيُؤْمِنْ وَمَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيَكْفُرْ ۚ إِنَّا أَعْتَدْنَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ نَارًا أَحَاطَ بِهِمْ سُرَادِقُهَا ۚ وَإِنْ يَسْتَغِيثُوا يُغَاثُوا بِمَاءٍ كَالْمُهْلِ يَشْوِي الْوُجُوهَ ۚ بِئْسَ الشَّرَابُ وَسَاءَتْ مُرْتَفَقًا
Wa Quli Al-Ĥaqqu Min Rabbikum Faman Shā’a Falyu’umin Wa Man Shā’a Falyakfur ‘Innā ‘A`tadnā Lilžžālimīna Nārāan ‘Aĥāţa Bihim Surādiquhā Wa ‘In Yastaghīthū Yughāthū Bimā’in Kālmuhli Yashwī Al-Wujūha Bi’sa Ash-Sharābu Wa Sā’at Murtafaqāan
18:29 And say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “˹This is˺ the truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills – let him believe and whoever wills – let him disbelieve.” Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a Fire whose walls will surround them. And if they call for relief, they will be relieved with water like molten metal/brass, which scalds ˹their˺ faces. Wretched/ Horrible is the drink! And evil is the resting place.
29. Wa qulil haqqu mir Rabbikum faman shaaa’a falyu’minw wa man shaaa’a falyakfur; innaaa a’tadnaa lizzaalimeena Naaran ahaata bihim suraadiquhaa; wa iny yastagheesoo yughaasoo bimaaa’in kalmuhli yashwil wujooh’ bi’sash-sharaab; wa saaa’at murtafaqaa
30. إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ إِنَّا لَا نُضِيعُ أَجْرَ مَنْ أَحْسَنَ عَمَلًا
‘Inna Al-Ladhīna ‘Āmanū Wa `Amilū Aş-Şāliĥāti ‘Innā Lā Nuđī`u ‘Ajra Man ‘Aĥsana `Amalāan
18:30 Indeed, those who believe and did the good deeds, indeed, We will not waste the reward of those who does good deeds.
30. Innal lazeena aamanoo wa ‘amilus saalihaati innaa laa nudee’u ajra man ahsana ‘amalaa
31. أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتُ عَدْنٍ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهِمُ الْأَنْهَارُ يُحَلَّوْنَ فِيهَا مِنْ أَسَاوِرَ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَيَلْبَسُونَ ثِيَابًا خُضْرًا مِنْ سُنْدُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُتَّكِئِينَ فِيهَا عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ ۚ نِعْمَ الثَّوَابُ وَحَسُنَتْ مُرْتَفَقًا
‘Ūlā’ika Lahum Jannātu `Adnin Tajrī Min Taĥtihimu Al-‘Anhāru Yuĥallawna Fīhā Min ‘Asāwira Min Dhahabin Wa Yalbasūna Thiyābāan Khuđrāan Min Sundusin Wa ‘Istabraqin Muttaki’īna Fīhā `Alá Al-‘Arā’iki Ni`ma Ath-Thawābu Wa Ĥasunat Murtafaqāan
18:31 Those, they will have Gardens of Eden/ Eternity, from underneath them the rivers flows. They will be adorned therein from bracelets of gold and will wear green garments of fine silk and brocade, reclining therein on the couches. Excellent is the reward, and good is the resting place.
31. Ulaaa’ika lahum Jannaatu ‘Adnin tajree min tahtihimul anhaaru yuhallawna feehaa min asaawira min zahabinw wa yalbasoona siyaaban khudram min sundusinw wa istabraqim muttaki’eena feehaa ‘alal araaa’ik; ni’mas sawaab; wa hasunat murtafaqaa (section 4)
32. وَاضْرِبْ لَهُمْ مَثَلًا رَجُلَيْنِ جَعَلْنَا لِأَحَدِهِمَا جَنَّتَيْنِ مِنْ أَعْنَابٍ وَحَفَفْنَاهُمَا بِنَخْلٍ وَجَعَلْنَا بَيْنَهُمَا زَرْعًا
Wa Ađrib Lahum Mathalāan Rajulayni Ja`alnā Li’ĥadihimā Jannatayni Min ‘A`nābin Wa Ĥafafnāhumā Binakhlin Wa Ja`alnā Baynahumā Zar`āan
18:32 And present/give to them ˹O Prophet˺ the example of two men: To ˹the disbelieving˺ one of them We provided two gardens of grapes, and We surrounded them with date-palms, and We placed crops in between both of them (i.e., two gardens).
32. Wadrib lahum masalar rajulaini ja’alnaa li ahadihimaa jannataini min a’naabinw wa hafafnaahumaa binakhilinw wa ja’alnaa bainahumaa zar’aa
33. كِلْتَا الْجَنَّتَيْنِ آتَتْ أُكُلَهَا وَلَمْ تَظْلِمْ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا ۚ وَفَجَّرْنَا خِلَالَهُمَا نَهَرًا
Kiltā Al-Jannatayni ‘Ātat ‘Ukulahā Wa Lam Tažlim Minhu Shay’āan Wa Fajjarnā Khilālahumā Naharāan
18:33 Each of the two gardens brought/gave its produce and did not fall short from it in anything. And We caused a river to flow within/between/ through them.
33. Kiltal jannataini aatat ukulahaa wa lam tazlim minhu shai’anw wa fajjarnaa khi laalahumaa naharaa
34. وَكَانَ لَهُ ثَمَرٌ فَقَالَ لِصَاحِبِهِ وَهُوَ يُحَاوِرُهُ أَنَا أَكْثَرُ مِنْكَ مَالًا وَأَعَزُّ نَفَرًا
Wa Kāna Lahu Thamarun Faqāla Lişāĥibihi Wa Huwa Yuĥāwiruhu ‘Anā ‘Aktharu Minka Mālāan Wa ‘A`azzu Nafarāan
18:34 And he had fruit, so he said to his companion, while he was talking with him, “I am more than you in wealth and stronger/ superior in men/ manpower.”
18:34 And was for him fruit, so he said to his companion, while he was talking with him, “I am greater than you in wealth and stronger in men/ manpower.”
34. Wa kaana lahoo samarun faqaala lisaahibihee wa huwa yuhaawiruhoo ana aksaru minka maalanw wa a’azzu nafaraa
35. وَدَخَلَ جَنَّتَهُ وَهُوَ ظَالِمٌ لِنَفْسِهِ قَالَ مَا أَظُنُّ أَنْ تَبِيدَ هَٰذِهِ أَبَدًا
Wa Dakhala Jannatahu Wa Huwa Žālimun Linafsihi Qāla Mā ‘Ažunnu ‘An Tabīda Hadhihi ‘Abadāan
18:35 And he entered his garden while he was doing wrong to himself. he said, “I do not think that this will ever perish.
35. Wa dakhala jannatahoo wa huwa zaalimul linafsihee qaala maaa azunnu an tabeeda haaziheee abadaa
36. وَمَا أَظُنُّ السَّاعَةَ قَائِمَةً وَلَئِنْ رُدِدْتُ إِلَىٰ رَبِّي لَأَجِدَنَّ خَيْرًا مِنْهَا مُنْقَلَبًا
Wa Mā ‘Ažunnu As-Sā`ata Qā’imatan Wa La’in Rudidtu ‘Ilá Rabbī La’ajidanna Khayrāan Minhā Munqalabāan
18:36 And nor do I think the Hour will occur. And if I am returned to my Lord, I will surely find a better return than this.”

36. Wa maaa azunnus Saa’ata qaaa’imatanw wa la’ir rudittu ilaa Rabbee la ajidanna khairam minhaa munqalabaa
37. قَالَ لَهُ صَاحِبُهُ وَهُوَ يُحَاوِرُهُ أَكَفَرْتَ بِالَّذِي خَلَقَكَ مِنْ تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ ثُمَّ سَوَّاكَ رَجُلًا
Qāla Lahu Şāĥibuhu Wa Huwa Yuĥāwiruhu ‘Akafarta Bial-Ladhī Khalaqaka Min Turābin Thumma Min Nuţfatin Thumma Sawwāka Rajulāan
18:37 his ˹believing˺ companion said to him, while he was talking to him, “Do you disbelieve in the One Who created you from dust, then ˹developed you˺ from a minute quantity of semen/ sperm-drop, then fashioned/formed you into a man?
37. Qaala lahoo saahibuhoo wa huwa yuhaawiruhooo akafarta billazee khalaqaka min turaabin summa min nutfatin summa sawwaaka rajulaa
38. لَٰكِنَّا هُوَ اللَّهُ رَبِّي وَلَا أُشْرِكُ بِرَبِّي أَحَدًا
Lakinnā Huwa Al-Lahu Rabbī Wa Lā ‘Ushriku Birabbī ‘Aĥadāan
18:38 But as for me, He is Allah, my Lord, and I will not/never associate anyone with my Lord.
38. Laakinaa Huwal laahu Rabbee wa laa ushriku bi Rabbeee ahadaa
39. وَلَوْلَا إِذْ دَخَلْتَ جَنَّتَكَ قُلْتَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ ۚ إِنْ تَرَنِ أَنَا أَقَلَّ مِنْكَ مَالًا وَوَلَدًا
Wa Lawlā ‘Idh Dakhalta Jannataka Qulta Mā Shā’a Al-Lahu Lā Qūwata ‘Illā Bil-Lahi ‘In Tarani ‘Anā ‘Aqalla Minka Mālāan Wa Waladāan
18:39 And why did you not say, when you entered your garden, “What Allah wills; there is no power except with Allah.” If you see me lesser than you in wealth and children,

39. Wa law laaa iz dakhalta jannataka qulta maa shaaa’al laahu laa quwwata illaa billaah; in tarani ana aqalla minka maalanw wa waladaa
40. فَعَسَىٰ رَبِّي أَنْ يُؤْتِيَنِ خَيْرًا مِنْ جَنَّتِكَ وَيُرْسِلَ عَلَيْهَا حُسْبَانًا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فَتُصْبِحَ صَعِيدًا زَلَقًا
Fa`asá Rabbī ‘An Yu’utiyanī Khayrāan Min Jannatika Wa Yursila `Alayhā Ĥusbānāan Mina As-Samā’i Fatuşbiĥa Şa`īdāan Zalaqāan
18:40 It may be that my Lord will give/grant me better than your garden and will send upon it (i.e., your garden) a calamity/ thunderbolt from the sky, then it will become slippery ground,
40. Fa’asaa Rabeee any yu’tiyani khairam min jannatika wa yursila ‘alaihaa husbaanam minas samaaa’i fatusbiha sa’eedan zalaqaa
41. أَوْ يُصْبِحَ مَاؤُهَا غَوْرًا فَلَنْ تَسْتَطِيعَ لَهُ طَلَبًا
‘Aw Yuşbiĥa Mā’uuhā Ghawrāan Falan Tastaţī`a Lahu Ţalabāan
18:41 Or its water may sink ˹into the earth˺, then you will never be able to find it.“
18:41 Or its water will become sunken ˹into the earth˺, so never you will be able it to find.“
41. Aw yusbiha maaa’uhaaa ghawran falan tastatee’a lahoo talabaa
42. وَأُحِيطَ بِثَمَرِهِ فَأَصْبَحَ يُقَلِّبُ كَفَّيْهِ عَلَىٰ مَا أَنْفَقَ فِيهَا وَهِيَ خَاوِيَةٌ عَلَىٰ عُرُوشِهَا وَيَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي لَمْ أُشْرِكْ بِرَبِّي أَحَدًا
Wa ‘Uĥīţa Bithamarihi Fa’aşbaĥa Yuqallibu Kaffayhi `Alá Mā ‘Anfaqa Fīhā Wa Hiya Khāwiyatun `Alá `Urūshihā Wa Yaqūlu Yā Laytanī Lam ‘Ushrik Birabbī ‘Aĥadāan
18:42 And his fruits/produce were surrounded ˹by ruin˺, so he began twisting his hands over what he had spent/ invested on it, while it had collapsed on its trellises (i.e., support), and he said, “Oh! I wish I had not associated anyone with my Lord.”
42. Wa uheeta bisamarihee faasbaha yuqallibu kaffaihi ‘alaa maaa anfaqa feehaa wa hiya khaawiyatun ‘alaa ‘urooshihaa wa yaqoolu yaalaitanee lam ushrik bi Rabbeee ahadaa
43. وَلَمْ تَكُنْ لَهُ فِئَةٌ يَنْصُرُونَهُ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ وَمَا كَانَ مُنْتَصِرًا
Wa Lam Takun Lahu Fi’atun Yanşurūnahu Min Dūni Al-Lahi Wa Mā Kāna Muntaşirāan
18:43 And there was not for him a group to help him from other than Allah, and he was not supported.
43. Wa lam takul lahoo fi’atuny yansuroonahoo min doonil laahi wa maa kaana muntasiraa
44. هُنَالِكَ الْوَلَايَةُ لِلَّهِ الْحَقِّ ۚ هُوَ خَيْرٌ ثَوَابًا وَخَيْرٌ عُقْبًا
Hunālika Al-Walāyatu Lillahi Al-Ĥaqqi Huwa Khayrun Thawābāan Wa Khayrun `Uqbāan
18:44 There the protection/support/ authority/ protective support is ˹only/completely˺ from Allah – the True ˹Lord˺. He is best in reward and best in the final outcome.
44. Hunaalikal walaayatu lillaahil haqq; huwa khairun sawaabanw wa khairun ‘uqbaa (section 5)
45. وَاضْرِبْ لَهُمْ مَثَلَ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا كَمَاءٍ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فَاخْتَلَطَ بِهِ نَبَاتُ الْأَرْضِ فَأَصْبَحَ هَشِيمًا تَذْرُوهُ الرِّيَاحُ ۗ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مُقْتَدِرًا
Wa Ađrib Lahum Mathala Al-Ĥayāati Ad-Dunyā Kamā’in ‘Anzalnāhu Mina As-Samā’i Fākhtalaţa Bihi Nabātu Al-‘Arđi Fa’aşbaĥa Hashīmāan Tadhrūhu Ar-Riyāĥu Wa Kāna Al-Lahu `Alá Kulli Shay’in Muqtadirāan
18:45 And present to them the example of the life of the world, ˹It is˺ like water which We send down from the sky, then the plants of the earth mixes with it, then it becomes dry stalks/remnants scattered by the winds. And Allah is All Capable over all things.
18:45 And present to them the example of the life of the world, ˹It is˺ like water which We send down from the sky, then mingles with it the vegetation of the earth then becomes dry stalks, it (is) scattered (by) the winds. And Allah is All capable over all things.
45. Wadrib lahum masalal hayaatid dunyaa kamaaa’in anzalnaahu minas samaaa’i fakhtalata bihee nabaatul ardi fa asbaha hasheeman tazroo hur riyaah; wa kaanal laahu ‘alaa kulli shai’im muqtadiraa
46. الْمَالُ وَالْبَنُونَ زِينَةُ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۖ وَالْبَاقِيَاتُ الصَّالِحَاتُ خَيْرٌ عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ ثَوَابًا وَخَيْرٌ أَمَلًا
Al-Mālu Wa Al-Banūna Zīnatu Al-Ĥayāati Ad-Dunyā Wa Al-Bāqiyātu Aş-Şāliĥātu Khayrun `Inda Rabbika Thawābāan Wa Khayrun ‘Amalāan
18:46 The wealth and children are adornment/decorations (i.e., beauty/attraction) of the life of the world. But the everlasting good deeds are better with your Lord in reward and better ˹ in / grounds for/ for one’s˺ hope.
46. Almaalu walbanoona zeenatul hayaatid dunya wal baaqiyaatus saalihaatu khairun ‘inda Rabbika sawaabanw wa khairun amalaa
47. وَيَوْمَ نُسَيِّرُ الْجِبَالَ وَتَرَى الْأَرْضَ بَارِزَةً وَحَشَرْنَاهُمْ فَلَمْ نُغَادِرْ مِنْهُمْ أَحَدًا
Wa Yawma Nusayyiru Al-Jibāla Wa Tará Al-‘Arđa Bārizatan Wa Ĥasharnāhum Falam Nughādir Minhum ‘Aĥadāan
18:47 And ˹beware of˺ the Day We will cause the mountains to move and you will see the earth as a leveled plain and We will gather them and We will not leave anyone from them behind.
and We will not leave one of them behind.
47. Wa yawma nusaiyirul jibaala wa taral arda baariza tanw wa hasharnaahum falam nughaadir minhum ahadaa
48. وَعُرِضُوا عَلَىٰ رَبِّكَ صَفًّا لَقَدْ جِئْتُمُونَا كَمَا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ ۚ بَلْ زَعَمْتُمْ أَلَّنْ نَجْعَلَ لَكُمْ مَوْعِدًا
Wa `Uriđū `Alá Rabbika Şaffāan Laqad Ji’tumūnā Kamā Khalaqnākum ‘Awwala Marratin Bal Za`amtum ‘Allan Naj`ala Lakum Maw`idāan
18:48 And they will be presented before your Lord in rows, ˹and will be told,˺ “Certainly, you have come to Us as We created you the first time. But you claimed that We would never make an appointment for you.”
But you claimed that not We made for you an appointment.”
48. Wa ‘uridoo ‘alaa Rabbika saffaa, laqad ji’tumoonaa kamaa khalaqnaakum awala marrah; bal za’amtum allannaj’ala lakum maw’idaa
49. وَوُضِعَ الْكِتَابُ فَتَرَى الْمُجْرِمِينَ مُشْفِقِينَ مِمَّا فِيهِ وَيَقُولُونَ يَا وَيْلَتَنَا مَالِ هَٰذَا الْكِتَابِ لَا يُغَادِرُ صَغِيرَةً وَلَا كَبِيرَةً إِلَّا أَحْصَاهَا ۚ وَوَجَدُوا مَا عَمِلُوا حَاضِرًا ۗ وَلَا يَظْلِمُ رَبُّكَ أَحَدًا
Wa Wuđi`a Al-Kitābu Fatará Al-Mujrimīna Mushfiqīna Mimmā Fīhi Wa Yaqūlūna Yā Waylatanā Māli Hādhā Al-Kitābi Lā Yughādiru Şaghīratan Wa Lā Kabīratan ‘Illā ‘Aĥşāhā Wa Wajadū Mā `Amilū Ĥāđirāan Wa Lā Yažlimu Rabbuka ‘Aĥadāan
18:49 And the Record ˹of deeds˺ will be laid ˹open˺, and you will see the criminals fearful of what is ˹written˺ in it, and they will say, “Oh, woe to us! What kind of Book is this, that leaves nothing small and nor great except that it has enumerated/enlisted it?“ And they will find what they did presented ˹before them˺. And your Lord will never/not wrong anyone.
49. Wa wudi’al kitaabu fataral mujrimeena mushfiqeena mimmaa feehi wa yaqooloona yaa wailatanaa maa lihaazal kitaabi laa yughaadiru saghee ratanw wa laa kabeeratan illaaa ahsaahaa; wa wajadoo maa ‘amiloo haadiraa; wa laa yazlimu Rabbuka ahadaa (Section 6)
50. وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ اسْجُدُوا لِآدَمَ فَسَجَدُوا إِلَّا إِبْلِيسَ كَانَ مِنَ الْجِنِّ فَفَسَقَ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِ ۗ أَفَتَتَّخِذُونَهُ وَذُرِّيَّتَهُ أَوْلِيَاءَ مِنْ دُونِي وَهُمْ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ ۚ بِئْسَ لِلظَّالِمِينَ بَدَلًا
Wa ‘Idh Qulnā Lilmalā’ikati Asjudū Li’dama Fasajadū ‘Illā ‘Iblīsa Kāna Mina Al-Jinni Fafasaqa `An ‘Amri Rabbihi ‘Afatattakhidhūnahu Wa Dhurrīyatahu ‘Awliyā’a Min Dūnī Wa Hum Lakum `Adūwun Bi’sa Lilžžālimīna Badalāan
18:50 And ˹remember˺ when We said to the angels, “Prostrate to Adam,” so they prostrated except Iblis, who was of the jinn, and he rebelled against the Command of his Lord. Will you then take him and his descendants as protectors from other than Me, while they are enemies to you? Evil is the exchange for the wrongdoers ˹to choose˺!
50. Wa iz qulnaa lil malaaa’ikatis judoo li Aadama fasajadooo illaaa Ibleesa kaana minal jinni fafasaqa ‘an amri Rabbih; afatattakhizoonahoo wa zurriyatahooo awliyaaa’a min doonee wa hum lakum ‘aduww; bi’sa lizzaalimeena badalaa
51. مَا أَشْهَدْتُهُمْ خَلْقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَلَا خَلْقَ أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَمَا كُنْتُ مُتَّخِذَ الْمُضِلِّينَ عَضُدًا
Mā ‘Ash/hadtuhum Khalqa As-Samāwāti Wa Al-‘Arđi Wa Lā Khalqa ‘Anfusihim Wa Mā Kuntu Muttakhidha Al-Muđillīna `Ađudāan
18:51 I never called them to witness the creation of the heavens and the earth and nor the creation of themselves and I would never be the One to take the misleaders as helpers.

51. Maaa ash hattuhum khalqas samaawaati wal ardi wa laa khalqa anfusihim wa maa kuntu muttakhizal mudilleena ‘adudaa
52. وَيَوْمَ يَقُولُ نَادُوا شُرَكَائِيَ الَّذِينَ زَعَمْتُمْ فَدَعَوْهُمْ فَلَمْ يَسْتَجِيبُوا لَهُمْ وَجَعَلْنَا بَيْنَهُمْ مَوْبِقًا
Wa Yawma Yaqūlu Nādū Shurakā’iya Al-Ladhīna Za`amtum Fada`awhum Falam Yastajībū Lahum Wa Ja`alnā Baynahum Mawbiqāan
18:52 And ˹beware of˺ the Day He ˹Allah˺ will say, “Call those who you claimed were My partners,” then they will call them, but they will not respond to them. And We will make/place/ put a ˹valley of˺ destruction/barrier between them.
52. Wa Yawma yaqoolu naadoo shurakaaa’i yal lazeena za’amtum fada’awhum falam yastajeeboo lahum wa ja’alnaa bainahum maw biqaa
53. وَرَأَى الْمُجْرِمُونَ النَّارَ فَظَنُّوا أَنَّهُمْ مُوَاقِعُوهَا وَلَمْ يَجِدُوا عَنْهَا مَصْرِفًا
Wa Ra’á Al-Mujrimūna An-Nāra Fažannū ‘Annahum Muwāqi`ūhā Wa Lam Yajidū `Anhā Maşrifāan
18:53 And the criminals will see the Fire, and they will be certain that they are going to fall into it. And they will not find a way of escape from it.
53. Wa ra al mujrimoonan Naara fazannooo annahum muwaaqi’oohaa wa lam yajidoo ‘anhaa masrifaa (section 7)
54. وَلَقَدْ صَرَّفْنَا فِي هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنِ لِلنَّاسِ مِنْ كُلِّ مَثَلٍ ۚ وَكَانَ الْإِنْسَانُ أَكْثَرَ شَيْءٍ جَدَلًا
Wa Laqad Şarrafnā Fī Hādhā Al-Qur’āni Lilnnāsi Min Kulli Mathalin Wa Kāna Al-‘Insānu ‘Akthara Shay’in Jadalāan
18:54 And certainly, We have explained in this Quran for humankind from every ˹kind of˺ example. But the human being is in most things quarrelsome.

54. Wa laqad sarrafnaa fee haazal quraani linnaasi min kulli masal; wa kaanal insaanu aksara shai’in jadalaa
55. وَمَا مَنَعَ النَّاسَ أَنْ يُؤْمِنُوا إِذْ جَاءَهُمُ الْهُدَىٰ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّهُمْ إِلَّا أَنْ تَأْتِيَهُمْ سُنَّةُ الْأَوَّلِينَ أَوْ يَأْتِيَهُمُ الْعَذَابُ قُبُلًا
Wa Mā Mana`a An-Nāsa ‘An Yu’uminū ‘Idh Jā’ahumu Al-Hudá Wa Yastaghfirū Rabbahum ‘Illā ‘An Ta’tiyahum Sunnatu Al-‘Awwalīna ‘Aw Ya’tiyahumu Al-`Adhābu Qubulāan
18:55 And what/nothing prevents people from believing when the guidance has come to them and from asking forgiveness of their Lord, except that the way (i.e., destruction) of the former people comes to them or the punishment comes to them face to face?
18:55 And nothing prevents people that they believe when the guidance has come to them and they ask forgiveness of their Lord, except that comes to them (the way of the former people or comes to them the punishment before them?
55. Wa maa mana’an naasa any yu’minooo iz jaaa’ahumul hudaa wa yastaghfiroo Rabbahum illaaa an taatiyahum sunnatul awwaleena aw yaatiyahumul ‘azaabu qubulaa
56. وَمَا نُرْسِلُ الْمُرْسَلِينَ إِلَّا مُبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنْذِرِينَ ۚ وَيُجَادِلُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِالْبَاطِلِ لِيُدْحِضُوا بِهِ الْحَقَّ ۖ وَاتَّخَذُوا آيَاتِي وَمَا أُنْذِرُوا هُزُوًا
Wa Mā Nursilu Al-Mursalīna ‘Illā Mubashshirīna Wa Mundhirīna Wa Yujādilu Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Bil-Bāţili Liyudĥiđū Bihi Al-Ĥaqqa Wa Attakhadhū ‘Āyātī Wa Mā ‘Undhirū Huzūan
18:56 And We do not send the Messengers except as deliverers of good news and warners. And those who disbelieve dispute/argue with falsehood, to refute/ discredit the truth with it. And they take My Verses and what they are warned of as ridicule/mockery.

56. Wa maa nursilul mursaleena illaa mubashshireena wa munzireen; wa yujaadilul lazeena kafaroo bilbaatili liyudhidoo bihil haqqa wattakhazooo Aayaatee wa maaa unziroo huzuwaa
57. وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنْ ذُكِّرَ بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهَا وَنَسِيَ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ ۚ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ أَكِنَّةً أَنْ يَفْقَهُوهُ وَفِي آذَانِهِمْ وَقْرًا ۖ وَإِنْ تَدْعُهُمْ إِلَى الْهُدَىٰ فَلَنْ يَهْتَدُوا إِذًا أَبَدًا
Wa Man ‘Ažlamu Mimman Dhukkira Bi’āyāti Rabbihi Fa’a`rađa `Anhā Wa Nasiya Mā Qaddamat Yadāhu ‘Innā Ja`alnā `Alá Qulūbihim ‘Akinnatan ‘An Yafqahūhu Wa Fī ‘Ādhānihim Waqrāan Wa ‘In Tad`uhum ‘Ilá Al-Hudá Falan Yahtadū ‘Idhāan ‘Abadāan
18:57 And who is more wrong than ˹the person˺ who is reminded of the Verses of his Lord, but turns away from them, and forgets what his hands have sent ahead? Indeed, We have placed coverings over their hearts, lest/ so they can not understand it (i.e., Quran) and deafness in their ears. And if you ˹O Prophet˺ call/ invite them to the guidance, then/so they will never be guided, then ever.
57. Wa man azlamu mimman zukkira bi ayaati Rabbihee fa-a’rada ‘anhaa wa nasiya maa qaddamat yadaah; innaa ja’alnaa ‘alaa quloobihim akinnatan any yafqahoohu wa feee aazaanihim waqraa; wa in tad’uhum ilal hudaa falany yahtadooo izan abadaa
58. وَرَبُّكَ الْغَفُورُ ذُو الرَّحْمَةِ ۖ لَوْ يُؤَاخِذُهُمْ بِمَا كَسَبُوا لَعَجَّلَ لَهُمُ الْعَذَابَ ۚ بَلْ لَهُمْ مَوْعِدٌ لَنْ يَجِدُوا مِنْ دُونِهِ مَوْئِلًا
Wa Rabbuka Al-Ghafūru Dhū Ar-Raĥmati Law Yu’uākhidhuhum Bimā Kasabū La`ajjala Lahumu Al-`Adhāba Bal Lahum Maw`idun Lan Yajidū Min Dūnihi Maw’ilāan
18:58 And your Lord is the Most/All Forgiving, Owner of the Mercy. If He were to seize them ˹immediately˺ for what they have earned/ they commit, surely, He would have hastened the punishment for them. But they have an appointment, they will never find a refuge from other than it/ besides it.
58. Wa Rabbukal Ghafooru zur rahmati law yu’aakhi zuhum bimaa kasaboo la’ajala lahumul ‘azaab; bal lahum maw’idul lany yajidoo min doonihee maw’ilaa
59. وَتِلْكَ الْقُرَىٰ أَهْلَكْنَاهُمْ لَمَّا ظَلَمُوا وَجَعَلْنَا لِمَهْلِكِهِمْ مَوْعِدًا
Wa Tilka Al-Qurá ‘Ahlaknāhum Lammā Žalamū Wa Ja`alnā Limahlikihim Maw`idāan
18:59 And these ˹are˺ the towns, We destroyed them when they wronged, and We had made/set an appointed time for their destruction.
59. Wa tilkal quraaa ahlak nahum lammaa zalamoo wa ja’alnaa limahlikihim maw’idaa (section 8)
60. وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِفَتَاهُ لَا أَبْرَحُ حَتَّىٰ أَبْلُغَ مَجْمَعَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ أَوْ أَمْضِيَ حُقُبًا
Wa ‘Idh Qāla Mūsá Lifatāhu Lā ‘Abraĥu Ĥattá ‘Ablugha Majma`a Al-Baĥrayni ‘Aw ‘Amđiya Ĥuqubāan
18:60 And ˹remember˺ when Moses said to his servant/ young assistant, “I will not cease/give up until I reach the junction of the two seas or I will continue for a long period.”

60. Wa iz qaalaa Moosaa lifataahu laaa abrahu hattaaa ablugha majma’al bahrayni aw amdiya huqubaa
61. فَلَمَّا بَلَغَا مَجْمَعَ بَيْنِهِمَا نَسِيَا حُوتَهُمَا فَاتَّخَذَ سَبِيلَهُ فِي الْبَحْرِ سَرَبًا
Falammā Balaghā Majma`a Baynihimā Nasiyā Ĥūtahumā Fa Attakhadha Sabīlahu Fī Al-Baĥri Sarabāan
18:61 But when they reached the junction between them, they forgot their fish, and it (i.e., fish) took/made its way into the sea, slipping away.
61. Falammaa balaghaa majma’a bainihimaa nasiyaa hootahumaa fattakhaza sabeelahoo fil bahri sarabaa
62. فَلَمَّا جَاوَزَا قَالَ لِفَتَاهُ آتِنَا غَدَاءَنَا لَقَدْ لَقِينَا مِنْ سَفَرِنَا هَٰذَا نَصَبًا
Falammā Jāwazā Qāla Lifatāhu ‘Ātinā Ghadā’anā Laqad Laqīnā Min Safarinā Hādhā Naşabāan
18:62 Then when they had passed beyond/further, he said to his assistant, “Bring us our meal. Certainly we have suffered fatigue from this journey of ours.”

62. Falammaa jaawazaa qaala lifataahu aatinaa ghadaaa’anaa laqad laqeena min safarinaa haazaa nasabaa
63. قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ إِذْ أَوَيْنَا إِلَى الصَّخْرَةِ فَإِنِّي نَسِيتُ الْحُوتَ وَمَا أَنْسَانِيهُ إِلَّا الشَّيْطَانُ أَنْ أَذْكُرَهُ ۚ وَاتَّخَذَ سَبِيلَهُ فِي الْبَحْرِ عَجَبًا
Qāla ‘Ara’ayta ‘Idh ‘Awaynā ‘Ilá Aş-Şakhrati Fa’innī Nasītu Al-Ĥūta Wa Mā ‘Ansānīhu ‘Illā Ash-Shayţānu ‘An ‘Adhkurahu Wa Attakhadha Sabīlahu Fī Al-Baĥri `Ajabāan
18:63 He (i.e., assistant) said, “Did you see, when we rested to/on the rock? Then indeed, I forgot the fish. And none made me forget it except the Satan that I mention it ˹to you˺. And it took/made its way into the sea amazingly/miraculously.”
63. Qaala ara’ayta iz awainaaa ilas sakhrati fa innee naseetul hoota wa maaa ansaaneehu illash Shaitaanu an azkurah; wattakhaza sabeelahoo fil bahri’ajabaa
64. قَالَ ذَٰلِكَ مَا كُنَّا نَبْغِ ۚ فَارْتَدَّا عَلَىٰ آثَارِهِمَا قَصَصًا
Qāla Dhālika Mā Kunnā Nabghi Fārtaddā `Alá ‘Āthārihimā Qaşaşāan
18:64 He ˹Moses˺ said, “That is ˹exactly˺ what we were seeking/looking for.” So they returned, retracing on their footprints.
64. Qaala zaalika maa kunnaa nabghi; fartaddaa ‘alaa aasaari him maa qasasaa
65. فَوَجَدَا عَبْدًا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا آتَيْنَاهُ رَحْمَةً مِنْ عِنْدِنَا وَعَلَّمْنَاهُ مِنْ لَدُنَّا عِلْمًا
Fawajadā `Abdāan Min `Ibādinā ‘Ātaynāhu Raĥmatan Min `Indinā Wa `Allamnāhu Min Ladunnā `Ilmāan
18:65 Then they found a servant from Our servants, whom We had given mercy from Us, and We had taught him knowledge from/of Us/ Our Own.
65. Fa wajadaa ‘abdam min ‘ibaadinaaa aatainaahu Rahmatam min ‘indinaa wa ‘allamnaahu mil ladunnaa ‘ilmaa
66. قَالَ لَهُ مُوسَىٰ هَلْ أَتَّبِعُكَ عَلَىٰ أَنْ تُعَلِّمَنِ مِمَّا عُلِّمْتَ رُشْدًا
Qāla Lahu Mūsá Hal ‘Attabi`uka `Alá ‘An Tu`allimani Mimmā `Ullimta Rushdāan
18:66 Moses Said to him, “May, I follow you perhaps that you teach me of/from what you have been taught of right guidance?”
May, I follow you perhaps that you teach me the right guidance of what you have been taught?”
66. Qaala lahoo Moosaa hal attabi’uka ‘alaaa an tu’allimani mimmaa ‘ullimta rushdaa
67. قَالَ إِنَّكَ لَنْ تَسْتَطِيعَ مَعِيَ صَبْرًا
Qāla ‘Innaka Lan Tastaţī`a Ma`iya Şabrāan
18:67 He said, “You will certainly never be able to have patience with me.
18:67 He said, “Certainly, You will not be able to have patience with me.
18:67 He said, “Certainly, You can not be patient with me.
18:67 He said, “Certainly, You will not be able to be patient with me.
67. Qaalaa innaka lan tastatee’a ma’iya sabraa
68. وَكَيْفَ تَصْبِرُ عَلَىٰ مَا لَمْ تُحِطْ بِهِ خُبْرًا
Wa Kayfa Taşbiru `Alá Mā Lam Tuĥiţ Bihi Khubrāan
18:68 And how can you have patience for what you do not encompass/acquired/have knowledge/news of it.“
18:68 And how can you have patience for what you have no knowledge/news/information of it.“
68. Wa kaifa tasbiru ‘alaa maa lam tuhit bihee khubraa
69. قَالَ سَتَجِدُنِي إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ صَابِرًا وَلَا أَعْصِي لَكَ أَمْرًا
Qāla Satajidunī ‘In Shā’a Al-Lahu Şābirāan Wa Lā ‘A`şī Laka ‘Amrāan
18:69 He ˹Moses˺ said ˹to him˺ “You will find me patient, if wills Allah, and I will not disobey your order.”
69. Qaala satajiduneee in shaa ‘al laahu saabiranw wa laaa a’see laka amraa
70. قَالَ فَإِنِ اتَّبَعْتَنِي فَلَا تَسْأَلْنِي عَنْ شَيْءٍ حَتَّىٰ أُحْدِثَ لَكَ مِنْهُ ذِكْرًا
Qāla Fa’ini Attaba`tanī Falā Tas’alnī `An Shay’in Ĥattá ‘Uĥditha Laka Minhu Dhikrāan
18:70 He ˹man˺ said, “Then if you follow me, do not ask me about anything until I ˹myself˺ make a mention of it to/for you.“
18:70 He said (i.e. replied), “Then if you follow me, do not ask me about anything until I make to you of it a mention.“
70. Qaala fa init taba’tanee falaa tas’alnee ‘an shai’in hattaaa uhdisa laka minhu zikraa (section 9)
71. فَانْطَلَقَا حَتَّىٰ إِذَا رَكِبَا فِي السَّفِينَةِ خَرَقَهَا ۖ قَالَ أَخَرَقْتَهَا لِتُغْرِقَ أَهْلَهَا لَقَدْ جِئْتَ شَيْئًا إِمْرًا
Fānţalaqā Ĥattá ‘Idhā Rakibā Fī As-Safīnati Kharaqahā Qāla ‘Akharaqtahā Litughriqa ‘Ahlahā Laqad Ji’ta Shay’āan ‘Imrāan
18:71 So they set out, until when they had boarded on the ship he (i.e., man) made a hole in it. He ˹Moses˺ said, “Have you made a hole in it, to drown its people? Certainly, you have done a grave/grievous/ terrible thing.”
71. Fantalaqaa hattaaa izaa rakibaa fis safeenati kharaqahaa qaala akharaqtahaa litughriqa ahlahaa laqad ji’ta shai’an imraa
72. قَالَ أَلَمْ أَقُلْ إِنَّكَ لَنْ تَسْتَطِيعَ مَعِيَ صَبْرًا
Qāla ‘Alam ‘Aqul ‘Innaka Lan Tastaţī`a Ma`iya Şabrāan
18:72 He ˹man˺ said, “Did I not say, indeed, you can never have patience with me?”
18:72 He ˹man˺ said, “Did I not say, indeed, you will never be able to have patience with me?”
72. Qaala alam aqul innaka lan tastatee’a ma’iya sabraa
73. قَالَ لَا تُؤَاخِذْنِي بِمَا نَسِيتُ وَلَا تُرْهِقْنِي مِنْ أَمْرِي عُسْرًا
Qāla Lā Tu’uākhidhnī Bimā Nasītu Wa Lā Turhiqnī Min ‘Amrī `Usrāan
18:73 He ˹Moses˺ said, “Do not, blame me for what I forgot and do not impose me from/for/in my matter difficulty.”
18:73 He ˹Moses˺ said, “Do not, blame me for what I forgot and do not be hard on me from/for/in my matter difficulty.”
18:73 He ˹Moses˺ said, “Do not, blame me for what I forgot and do not burden/impose me from/for/in my matter difficulty.”

73. Qaala laa tu’aakhiznee bimaa naseetu wa laa turhiqnee min amree ‘usraa
74. فَانْطَلَقَا حَتَّىٰ إِذَا لَقِيَا غُلَامًا فَقَتَلَهُ قَالَ أَقَتَلْتَ نَفْسًا زَكِيَّةً بِغَيْرِ نَفْسٍ لَقَدْ جِئْتَ شَيْئًا نُكْرًا
Fānţalaqā Ĥattá ‘Idhā Laqiyā Ghulāmāan Faqatalahu Qāla ‘Aqatalta Nafsāan Zakīyatan Bighayri Nafsin Laqad Ji’ta Shay’āan Nukrāan
18:74 Then they set out, until when they met a boy, then he (i.e., man) killed him (i.e., boy). He ˹Moses˺ said, “Have you killed an innocent/ a pure soul,
without a soul? Certainly, you have done a evil thing.”
74. Fantalaqaa hattaa izaa laqiyaa ghulaaman faqatalahoo qaala aqatalta nafsan zakiy yatam bighairi nafs; laqad ji’ta shai’an nukraa (End Juz 15)
75. قَالَ أَلَمْ أَقُلْ لَكَ إِنَّكَ لَنْ تَسْتَطِيعَ مَعِيَ صَبْرًا
Qāla ‘Alam ‘Aqul Laka ‘Innaka Lan Tastaţī`a Ma`iya Şabrāan
18:75 He said, “Did not I say to you that you, never will be able with me (to have) patience?”
75. Qaala alam aqul laka innaka lan tastatee’a ma’iya sabraa
76. قَالَ إِنْ سَأَلْتُكَ عَنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدَهَا فَلَا تُصَاحِبْنِي ۖ قَدْ بَلَغْتَ مِنْ لَدُنِّي عُذْرًا
Qāla ‘In Sa’altuka `An Shay’in Ba`dahā Falā Tuşāĥibnī Qad Balaghta Min Ladunnī `Udhrāan
18:76 He said, “If I ask you about anything after it, then (do) not keep me as a companion. Verily, you have reached from me (another) an excuse.”
76. Qaala in sa altuka ‘an shai’im ba’dahaa falaa tusaahibnee qad balaghta mil ladunnee ‘uzraa
77. فَانْطَلَقَا حَتَّىٰ إِذَا أَتَيَا أَهْلَ قَرْيَةٍ اسْتَطْعَمَا أَهْلَهَا فَأَبَوْا أَنْ يُضَيِّفُوهُمَا فَوَجَدَا فِيهَا جِدَارًا يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَنْقَضَّ فَأَقَامَهُ ۖ قَالَ لَوْ شِئْتَ لَاتَّخَذْتَ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا
Fānţalaqā Ĥattá ‘Idhā ‘Atayā ‘Ahla Qaryatin Astaţ`amā ‘Ahlahā Fa’abaw ‘An Yuđayyifūhumā Fawajadā Fīhā Jidārāan Yurīdu ‘An Yanqađđa Fa’aqāmahu Qāla Law Shi’ta Lāttakhadhta `Alayhi ‘Ajrāan
18:77 So they set out until when they came (to the) people (of) a town, they asked for food (from) its people, but they refused to offer them hospitality. Then they found in it a wall (that) want(ed) to collapse, so he set it straight. He said, “If you wished surely you (could) have taken for it a payment.“
77. Fantalaqaa hattaaa izaaa atayaaa ahla qaryatinis tat’amaaa ahlahaa fa abaw any yudaiyifoohumaa fawajadaa feehaa jidaarany yureedu any yanqadda fa aqaamah; qaala law shi’ta lattakhazta ‘alaihi ajraa
78. قَالَ هَٰذَا فِرَاقُ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنِكَ ۚ سَأُنَبِّئُكَ بِتَأْوِيلِ مَا لَمْ تَسْتَطِعْ عَلَيْهِ صَبْرًا
Qāla Hādhā Firāqu Baynī Wa Baynika Sa’unabbi’uka Bita’wīli Mā Lam Tastaţi` `Alayhi Şabrāan
18:78 He said, “This (is) parting between me and between you. I will inform you of (the) interpretation (of) what not you were able on it (to have) patience.
78. Qaala haazaa firaaqu bainee wa bainik; sa unabbi’uka bi ta’weeli maa lam tastati’ ‘alaihi sabraa
79. أَمَّا السَّفِينَةُ فَكَانَتْ لِمَسَاكِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ فِي الْبَحْرِ فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَعِيبَهَا وَكَانَ وَرَاءَهُمْ مَلِكٌ يَأْخُذُ كُلَّ سَفِينَةٍ غَصْبًا
‘Ammā As-Safīnatu Fakānat Limasākīna Ya`malūna Fī Al-Baĥri Fa’aradtu ‘An ‘A`ībahā Wa Kāna Warā’ahum Malikun Ya’khudhu Kulla Safīnatin Ghaşbāan
18:79 As for the ship, it was of (the) poor people working in the sea. So I intended that I cause defect (in) it (as there) was after them a king who seized every ship (by) force.
79. Ammas safeenatu fakaanat limasaakeena ya’maloona fil bahri fa arattu an a’eebahaa wa kaana waraaa’ ahum malikuny yaakhuzu kulla safeenatin ghasbaa
80. وَأَمَّا الْغُلَامُ فَكَانَ أَبَوَاهُ مُؤْمِنَيْنِ فَخَشِينَا أَنْ يُرْهِقَهُمَا طُغْيَانًا وَكُفْرًا
Wa ‘Ammā Al-Ghulāmu Fakāna ‘Abawāhu Mu’uminayni Fakhashīnā ‘An Yurhiqahumā Ţughyānāan Wa Kufrāan
18:80 And as for the boy were his parents believers, and we feared that he would overburden them (by) transgression and disbelief.
80. Wa aammal ghulaamu fakaana abawaahu mu’minaini fakhasheenaaa any yurhiqa humaa tughyaananw wa kufraa
81. فَأَرَدْنَا أَنْ يُبْدِلَهُمَا رَبُّهُمَا خَيْرًا مِنْهُ زَكَاةً وَأَقْرَبَ رُحْمًا
Fa’aradnā ‘An Yubdilahumā Rabbuhumā Khayrāan Minhu Zakāatan Wa ‘Aqraba Ruĥmāan
18:81 So we intended that their Lord would change/replace for both of them ˹one/ someone˺ better than him in purity and closer in mercy.
81. Faradnaa any yubdila humaa Rabbuhumaa khairam minhu zakaatanw wa aqraba ruhmaa
82. وَأَمَّا الْجِدَارُ فَكَانَ لِغُلَامَيْنِ يَتِيمَيْنِ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ وَكَانَ تَحْتَهُ كَنْزٌ لَهُمَا وَكَانَ أَبُوهُمَا صَالِحًا فَأَرَادَ رَبُّكَ أَنْ يَبْلُغَا أَشُدَّهُمَا وَيَسْتَخْرِجَا كَنْزَهُمَا رَحْمَةً مِنْ رَبِّكَ ۚ وَمَا فَعَلْتُهُ عَنْ أَمْرِي ۚ ذَٰلِكَ تَأْوِيلُ مَا لَمْ تَسْطِعْ عَلَيْهِ صَبْرًا
Wa ‘Ammā Al-Jidāru Fakāna Lighulāmayni Yatīmayni Fī Al-Madīnati Wa Kāna Taĥtahu Kanzun Lahumā Wa Kāna ‘Abūhumā Şāliĥāan Fa’arāda Rabbuka ‘An Yablughā ‘Ashuddahumā Wa Yastakhrijā Kanzahumā Raĥmatan Min Rabbika Wa Mā Fa`altuhu `An ‘Amrī Dhālika Ta’wīlu Mā Lam Tasţi` `Alayhi Şabrāan
18:82 And as for the wall, it was of the two orphan boys in the city, and there was underneath/ beneath it a treasure for them and their father had been righteous. So your Lord intended/willed that they (i.e., children) reach their maturity, and bring forth/out/ extract their treasure as a mercy from your Lord. And I did not do it on my own accord/ command. That is the interpretation/explanation of what you were not able to have patience on it.”
82. Wa ammal jidaaru fakaana lighulaamaini yateemaini fil madeenati wa kaana tahtahoo kanzul lahumaa wa kaana aboohumaa saalihan fa araada Rabbuka any yablughaaa ashuddahumaa wa yastakhrijaa kanzahumaa rahmatam mir Rabbik; wa maa fa’altuhoo ‘an amree; zaalika taaweelu maa lam tasti’ ‘alaihi sabra (section 10)
83. وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنْ ذِي الْقَرْنَيْنِ ۖ قُلْ سَأَتْلُو عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْهُ ذِكْرًا
Wa Yas’alūnaka `An Dhī Al-Qarnayni Qul Sa’atlū `Alaykum Minhu Dhikrāan
18:83 And they ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about Zul (i.e., Possessor) Qarnain ( i.e., two horns) Say, “I will recite to you a remembrance about him.“
83. Wa yas’aloonaka ‘an Zil Qarnaini qul sa atloo ‘alaikum minhu zikraa
84. إِنَّا مَكَّنَّا لَهُ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَآتَيْنَاهُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ سَبَبًا
‘Innā Makkannā Lahu Fī Al-‘Arđi Wa ‘Ātaynāhu Min Kulli Shay’in Sababāan
18:84 Indeed, We established him in the earth/land, and We gave him a/the means of every thing.
84. Innaa makkannaa lahoo fil ardi wa aatainaahu min kulli shai’in sababaa
85. فَأَتْبَعَ سَبَبًا
Fa’atba`a Sababāan
18:85 So he followed a way/course

86. حَتَّىٰ إِذَا بَلَغَ مَغْرِبَ الشَّمْسِ وَجَدَهَا تَغْرُبُ فِي عَيْنٍ حَمِئَةٍ وَوَجَدَ عِنْدَهَا قَوْمًا ۗ قُلْنَا يَا ذَا الْقَرْنَيْنِ إِمَّا أَنْ تُعَذِّبَ وَإِمَّا أَنْ تَتَّخِذَ فِيهِمْ حُسْنًا
Ĥattá ‘Idhā Balagha Maghriba Ash-Shamsi Wajadahā Taghrubu Fī `Aynin Ĥami’atin Wa Wajada `Indahā Qawmāan Qulnā Yā Dhā Al-Qarnayni ‘Immā ‘An Tu`adhdhiba Wa ‘Immā ‘An Tattakhidha Fīhim Ĥusnāan
18:86 Until, when he reached the setting ˹point˺ of the sun, he found it setting in a spring of dark mud/ murky water, and near it he found a community/ a people/ some people. We said, “O Dhul-qarnain (i.e., Possessor of two horns)! Either that you punish or that you take in them goodness.”

86. Hattaaa izaa balagha maghribash shamsi wajadahaaa taghrubu fee ‘aynin hami’a tinw wa wajada ‘indahaa qawmaa; qulnaa yaa Zal Qarnaini immaaa an tu’az ziba wa immaaa an tattakhiza feehim husnaa
87. قَالَ أَمَّا مَنْ ظَلَمَ فَسَوْفَ نُعَذِّبُهُ ثُمَّ يُرَدُّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِ فَيُعَذِّبُهُ عَذَابًا نُكْرًا
Qāla ‘Ammā Man Žalama Fasawfa Nu`adhdhibuhu Thumma Yuraddu ‘Ilá Rabbihi Fayu`adhdhibuhu `Adhābāan Nukrāan
18:87 He said, “As for the one who does wrong, then we will soon punish him. Then he will be returned to his Lord, and He will punish him with a terrible/ unheard-of punishment.

87. Qaala amma man zalama fasawfa nu’azzibuhoo summa yuraddu ilaa Rabbihee fa yu ‘azzibuhoo azaaban nukraa
88. وَأَمَّا مَنْ آمَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا فَلَهُ جَزَاءً الْحُسْنَىٰ ۖ وَسَنَقُولُ لَهُ مِنْ أَمْرِنَا يُسْرًا
Wa ‘Ammā Man ‘Āmana Wa `Amila Şāliĥāan Falahu Jazā’an Al-Ĥusná Wa Sanaqūlu Lahu Min ‘Amrinā Yusrāan
18:88 But as for the one who believes and does righteousness, then for him is the best reward. And we will speak to him from our command with ease.”
88. Wa ammaa man aamana wa ‘amila saalihan falahoo jazaaa’anil husnaa wa sanaqoolu lahoo min amrinaa yusraa
89. ثُمَّ أَتْبَعَ سَبَبًا
Thumma ‘Atba`a Sababāan
18:89 Then he followed a ˹different˺ way/course

90. حَتَّىٰ إِذَا بَلَغَ مَطْلِعَ الشَّمْسِ وَجَدَهَا تَطْلُعُ عَلَىٰ قَوْمٍ لَمْ نَجْعَلْ لَهُمْ مِنْ دُونِهَا سِتْرًا
Ĥattá ‘Idhā Balagha Maţli`a Ash-Shamsi Wajadahā Taţlu`u `Alá Qawmin Lam Naj`al Lahum Min Dūnihā Sitrāan
18:90 Until, when he reached the rising ˹point˺ of the sun, and he found it rising on/over a community/ a people for them/whom We had made/ provided no shelter from against/ besides/ other than it (i.e., sun).
90. Hattaaa izaa balagha matli’ash shamsi wajdahaa tatlu’u alaa qawmil lam naj’al lahum min doonihaa sitraa
91. كَذَٰلِكَ وَقَدْ أَحَطْنَا بِمَا لَدَيْهِ خُبْرًا
Kadhālika Wa Qad ‘Aĥaţnā Bimā Ladayhi Khubrāan
18:91 Thus/ So it was. And truly We knew of what/ whatever information/ knowledge was with him.

91. Kazaalika wa qad ahatnaa bimaa ladaihi khubraa
92. ثُمَّ أَتْبَعَ سَبَبًا
Thumma ‘Atba`a Sababāan
18:92 Then he followed a ˹third˺ course

93. حَتَّىٰ إِذَا بَلَغَ بَيْنَ السَّدَّيْنِ وَجَدَ مِنْ دُونِهِمَا قَوْمًا لَا يَكَادُونَ يَفْقَهُونَ قَوْلًا
Ĥattá ‘Idhā Balagha Bayna As-Saddayni Wajada Min Dūnihimā Qawmāan Lā Yakādūna Yafqahūna Qawlāan
18:93 Until, when he reached ˹a pass˺ between the two mountains, he found from besides them a community who would almost not understand his speech/language.

93. Hattaaa izaa balagha bainas saddaini wajada min doonihimaa qawmal laa yakaa doona yafqahoona qawlaa
94. قَالُوا يَا ذَا الْقَرْنَيْنِ إِنَّ يَأْجُوجَ وَمَأْجُوجَ مُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَهَلْ نَجْعَلُ لَكَ خَرْجًا عَلَىٰ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَهُمْ سَدًّا
Qālū Yā Dhā Al-Qarnayni ‘Inna Ya’jūja Wa Ma’jūja Mufsidūna Fī Al-‘Arđi Fahal Naj`alu Laka Kharjāan `Alá ‘An Taj`ala Baynanā Wa Baynahum Saddāan
18:94 They said, “O Zul-Qarnain (i.e., Possessor of two horns)! Indeed, Gog and Magog are corrupters in the land. So can we make an expenditure for you on that you make a barrier between us and between them?”
So can we make a payment to you on that you make a barrier between us and between them?”
So can we pay a tribute for you on that you make a barrier between us and between them?”
18:94 They said, “O Zul-Qarnain (i.e., Possessor of two horns)! Indeed, Gog and Magog are corrupters in the land. So may we make an expenditure for you on that you make a barrier between us and between them?”
94. Qaaloo yaa Zal qarnaini inna Ya’jooja wa Ma’jooja mufsidoona fil ardi fahal naj’alu laka kharjan ‘alaaa an taj’ala bainanaa wa bainahum saddaa
95. قَالَ مَا مَكَّنِّي فِيهِ رَبِّي خَيْرٌ فَأَعِينُونِي بِقُوَّةٍ أَجْعَلْ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُمْ رَدْمًا
Qāla Mā Makkananī Fīhi Rabbī Khayrun Fa’a`īnūnī Biqūwatin ‘Aj`al Baynakum Wa Baynahum Radmāan
18:95 He said, “What my Lord has established/ provided me in it is better, but assist me with strength, I will make a barrier between you and between them.
95. Qaala maa makkannee feehi Rabbee khairun fa-a’eenoonee biquwwatin aj’al bainakum wa bainahum radmaa
96. آتُونِي زُبَرَ الْحَدِيدِ ۖ حَتَّىٰ إِذَا سَاوَىٰ بَيْنَ الصَّدَفَيْنِ قَالَ انْفُخُوا ۖ حَتَّىٰ إِذَا جَعَلَهُ نَارًا قَالَ آتُونِي أُفْرِغْ عَلَيْهِ قِطْرًا
‘Ātūnī Zubara Al-Ĥadīdi Ĥattá ‘Idhā Sāwá Bayna Aş-Şadafayni Qāla Anfukhū Ĥattá ‘Idhā Ja`alahu Nārāan Qāla ‘Ātūnī ‘Ufrigh `Alayhi Qiţrāan
18:96 Bring me sheets of iron” until, when he had leveled/ filled up ˹the gap˺ between the two mountains, he said, “Blow,” until when he had made it (i.e., iron) as fire, he said, “Bring me molten metal/copper to pour over it.”
96. Aatoonee zubaral hadeed, hattaaa izaa saawaa bainas sadafaini qaalan fukhoo hattaaa izaa ja’alahoo naaran qaala aatooneee ufrigh ‘alaihi qitraa
97. فَمَا اسْطَاعُوا أَنْ يَظْهَرُوهُ وَمَا اسْتَطَاعُوا لَهُ نَقْبًا
Famā Asţā`ū ‘An Yažharūhu Wa Mā Astaţā`ū Lahu Naqbāan
18:97 So they were not able to scale it/ pass over it/ climb it/ mount it and nor they were able to do any penetration/ pierce in/ through it.
97. Famas taa’ooo any yazharoohu wa mastataa’oo lahoo naqbaa
98. قَالَ هَٰذَا رَحْمَةٌ مِنْ رَبِّي ۖ فَإِذَا جَاءَ وَعْدُ رَبِّي جَعَلَهُ دَكَّاءَ ۖ وَكَانَ وَعْدُ رَبِّي حَقًّا
Qāla Hādhā Raĥmatun Min Rabbī Fa’idhā Jā’a Wa`du Rabbī Ja`alahu Dakkā’a Wa Kāna Wa`du Rabbī Ĥaqqāan
18:98 He said, “This is a mercy from my Lord. But when the Promise of my Lord comes, He will make it level to ground. And the Promise of my Lord is true.”
98. Qaala haaza rahmatun mir Rabbee fa izaa jaaa’a wa’du Rabbee ja’alahoo dakkaaa’a; kaana wa’du Rabbee haqqaa
99. وَتَرَكْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَمُوجُ فِي بَعْضٍ ۖ وَنُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ فَجَمَعْنَاهُمْ جَمْعًا
Wa Taraknā Ba`đahum Yawma’idhin Yamūju Fī Ba`đin Wa Nufikha Fī Aş-Şūri Fajama`nāhum Jam`āan
18:99 And on that Day We will leave some of them to surge ˹like waves˺ over others, and the trumpet will be blown in, then We will gather them all together.
99. Wa taraknaa ba’dahum Yawma’iziny yamooju fee ba’dinw wa nufikha fis Soori fajama’naahum jam’aa
100. وَعَرَضْنَا جَهَنَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْكَافِرِينَ عَرْضًا
Wa `Arađnā Jahannama Yawma’idhin Lilkāfirīna `Arđāan
18:100 And We will present Hell that Day on display to the disbelievers

18:100 And We will present Hell on that Day as display/clearly to the disbelievers
18:100 And on that Day We will present Hell to the disbelievers, (on) display
And We shall exhibit Hell on that Day as an ultimate display to the unbelievers.
100. Wa ‘aradnaa jahannama Yawma’izil lilkaafireena ‘ardaa
101. الَّذِينَ كَانَتْ أَعْيُنُهُمْ فِي غِطَاءٍ عَنْ ذِكْرِي وَكَانُوا لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ سَمْعًا
Al-Ladhīna Kānat ‘A`yunuhum Fī Ghiţā’in `An Dhikrī Wa Kānū Lā Yastaţī`ūna Sam`āan
18:101 Those whose eyes were in a cover/blindness from My remembrance, and were not able to listen ˹to it˺.

101. Allazeena kaanat a’yunuhum fee ghitaaa’in ‘an zikree wa kaanoo laa yastatee’oona sam’aa (section 11)
102. أَفَحَسِبَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَنْ يَتَّخِذُوا عِبَادِي مِنْ دُونِي أَوْلِيَاءَ ۚ إِنَّا أَعْتَدْنَا جَهَنَّمَ لِلْكَافِرِينَ نُزُلًا
‘Afaĥasiba Al-Ladhīna Kafarū ‘An Yattakhidhū `Ibādī Min Dūnī ‘Awliyā’a ‘Innā ‘A`tadnā Jahannama Lilkāfirīna Nuzulāan
18:102 Do those who disbelieve then think that they ˹can simply˺ take My servants as protectors from besides/instead of Me? Indeed, We have prepared Hell as a lodging/ accommodation for the disbelievers.
102. Afahasibal lazeena kafarooo any yattakhizoo ‘ibaadee min dooneee awliyaaa’; innaaa a’tadnaa jahannama lil kaafireena nuzulaa
103. قُلْ هَلْ نُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِالْأَخْسَرِينَ أَعْمَالًا
Qul Hal Nunabbi’ukum Bil-‘Akhsarīna ‘A`mālāan
18:103 Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Shall We inform you of the greatest losers/ who are the greatest losers ˹in their˺ deeds?
103. Qul hal nunabbi’ukum bilakhsareena a’maalaa
104. الَّذِينَ ضَلَّ سَعْيُهُمْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَهُمْ يَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُمْ يُحْسِنُونَ صُنْعًا
Al-Ladhīna Đalla Sa`yuhum Fī Al-Ĥayāati Ad-Dunyā Wa Hum Yaĥsabūna ‘Annahum Yuĥsinūna Şun`āan
18:104 ˹They are˺ those – whose effort is lost/ wasted/ misguided in the life of the world, while they think that they were acquiring good/ are doing well/good in work.”
18:104 those – is lost their effort in the life (of) the world, while they think that they (were) acquiring good (in) work.”
104. Allazeena dalla sa’yuhum fil hayaatid dunyaa wa hum yahsaboona annahum yuhsinoona sun’aa
105. أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَلِقَائِهِ فَحَبِطَتْ أَعْمَالُهُمْ فَلَا نُقِيمُ لَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَزْنًا
‘Ūla’ika Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Bi’āyāti Rabbihim Wa Liqā’ihi Faĥabiţat ‘A`māluhum Falā Nuqīmu Lahum Yawma Al-Qiyāmati Waznāan
18:105 Those are the ones who disbelieve in the Verses of their Lord, and the/their meeting with Him. So their deeds are vain/ worthless/ void, and We will not assign/give/ establish for/to them any weight on the Day of the Resurrection.
so We will not establish for them any weight on the Day of the Resurrection.

105. Ulaaa’ikal lazeena kafaroo bi aayaati Rabbihim wa liqaaa’ihee fahabitat a’maaluhum falaa nuqeemu lahum Yawmal Qiyaamati waznaa
106. ذَٰلِكَ جَزَاؤُهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ بِمَا كَفَرُوا وَاتَّخَذُوا آيَاتِي وَرُسُلِي هُزُوًا
Dhālika Jazā’uuhum Jahannamu Bimā Kafarū Wa Attakhadhū ‘Āyātī Wa Rusulī Huzūan
18:106 That is their recompense/reward: Hell – for what they disbelieved, and ˹because˺ they took My Verses/Signs and My Messengers in mockery.
106. Zaalika jazaaa’uhum jahannamu bimaa kafaroo wattakhazooo Aayaatee wa Rusulee huzuwaa
107. إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ كَانَتْ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتُ الْفِرْدَوْسِ نُزُلًا
‘Inna Al-Ladhīna ‘Āmanū Wa `Amilū Aş-Şāliĥāti Kānat Lahum Jannātu Al-Firdawsi Nuzulāan
18:107 Indeed, those who believed/ believe and did/do righteous deeds, they will have Gardens of the Paradise as a lodging/ an accommodation,
for them will be Gardens of the Paradise as a lodging/ an accommodation,
they will have Gardens of the Paradise as a lodging/ an accommodation,
will have Gardens of the Paradise as a lodging/ an accommodation,
107. Innal lazeena aamanoo wa ‘amilus saalihaati kaanat lahum Jannaatul Firdawsi nuzulaa
108. خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا لَا يَبْغُونَ عَنْهَا حِوَلًا
Khālidīna Fīhā Lā Yabghūna `Anhā Ĥiwalāan
18:108 Staying forever in it. They will not desire any transfer from it.
108. Khaalideena feeha laa yabghoona ‘anhaa hiwalaa
109. قُلْ لَوْ كَانَ الْبَحْرُ مِدَادًا لِكَلِمَاتِ رَبِّي لَنَفِدَ الْبَحْرُ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَنْفَدَ كَلِمَاتُ رَبِّي وَلَوْ جِئْنَا بِمِثْلِهِ مَدَدًا
Qul Law Kāna Al-Baĥru Midādāan Likalimāti Rabbī Lanafida Al-Baĥru Qabla ‘An Tanfada Kalimātu Rabbī Wa Law Ji’nā Bimithlihi Madadāan
18:109 Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “If the ocean were ink for ˹writing˺ the Words of my Lord, surely the ocean would be exhausted/ run out before that the Words of my Lord were exhausted/ finished, even if We brought ˹another ocean˺ like it to help as a supplement/ in addition / to extend (i.e., refill).”

18:109 Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “If the ocean were ink, for ˹writing˺ the Words of my Lord, surely (would be) exhausted the sea before [that] (were) exhausted (the) Words (of) my Lord, even if We brought (the) like (of) it (as) a supplement.”
109. Qul law kaanal bahru midaadal li kalimaati Rabbee lanafidal bahru qabla an tanfada Kalimaatu Rabbee wa law ji’naa bimislihee madadaa
110. قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْ يُوحَىٰ إِلَيَّ أَنَّمَا إِلَٰهُكُمْ إِلَٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ ۖ فَمَنْ كَانَ يَرْجُو لِقَاءَ رَبِّهِ فَلْيَعْمَلْ عَمَلًا صَالِحًا وَلَا يُشْرِكْ بِعِبَادَةِ رَبِّهِ أَحَدًا
Qul ‘Innamā ‘Anā Basharun Mithlukum Yūĥá ‘Ilayya ‘Annamā ‘Ilahukum ‘Ilahun Wāĥidun Faman Kāna Yarjū Liqā’a Rabbihi Falya`mal `Amalāan Şāliĥāan Wa Lā Yushrik Bi`ibādati Rabbihi ‘Aĥadāan
18:110 Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “I am only a man like you, ˹but it/ and it˺ has been revealed to me that your God ˹is only˺ One God. So whoever is hoping for the meeting with his Lord, so let him do righteous deeds and not associate anyone in/ with the worship of his Lord.”
