2:61 And ˹Remember˺ when you ˹people of bani israel˺ said , “O Musa! we will never be patient on one kind of food, so pray for us to your Lord to bring out for us out of what the earth grows, from its herbs, and its cucumbers, and its garlic, and its lentils, and its onions. “he ˹moses˺ said ˹to his people˺, “Would you ˹take in˺ exchange that which is inferior for that which is better? Go down to any city, then indeed, for you there is what you have asked for.” So the humiliation and the misery were struck on them and they drew on themselves the anger of Allah. That was because they used to disbelieve in the Signs of Allah and kill the Prophets ˹unjustly˺ without the right. That was because they disobeyed and they were transgressing.

2:137 So if they believe in the same way of what you have believed in it, then indeed, they are ˹rightly˺ guided. But if they turn away, then they are only in opposition ˹to the truth˺. So Allah will be sufficient for you against them, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

Ayah 141. Tilka ‘Ummatun Qad Khalat Lahā Mā Kasabat Wa Lakum Mā Kasabtum Wa Lā Tus’alūna `Ammā Kānū Ya`malūna
2:141 This was a community which has passed away, for them is what they earned, and for you is what you have earned. And you will not be asked about what they used to do.
Ayah 142. Sayaqūlu As-Sufahā’u Mina An-Nāsi Mā Wa Llāhum `An Qiblatihimu Allatī Kānū `Alayhā Qul Lillahi Al-Mashriqu Wa Al-Maghribu Yahdī Man Yashā’u ‘Ilá Şirāţin Mustaqīmin
2:142 the foolish ones among the people will say, “What has turned them away from ˹facing˺ their direction of prayer, which they used to ˹face before˺ upon it (i.e. for prayer).” Say, “To Allah belongs the east and the west. He guides whom He wills to a straight path.“
Ayah 143. Wa Kadhalika Ja`alnākum ‘Ummatan Wasaţāan Litakūnū Shuhadā’a `Alá An-Nāsi Wa Yakūna Ar-Rasūlu `Alaykum Shahīdāan Wa Mā Ja`alnā Al-Qiblata Allatī Kunta `Alayhā ‘Illā Lina`lama Man Yattabi`u Ar-Rasūla Mimman Yanqalibu `Alá `Aqibayhi Wa ‘In Kānat Lakabīratan ‘Illā `Alá Al-Ladhīna Hadá Al-Lahu Wa Mā Kāna Al-Lahu Liyuđī`a ‘Īmānakum ‘Inna Al-Laha Bin-Nāsi Lara’ūfun Raĥīmun
2:143 And thus We made you a justly balanced community so that you will be witnesses over the human kind, and the Messenger will be a witness over you. And We have not made the ˹former˺ direction of prayer which you were used to ˹praying˺ upon it except that We make evident ˹between˺ (i.e., to test between) he who follows the Messenger from he who turns back on his heels. And indeed, it was certainly a great test except for those guided by Allah. And Allah will not let your faith go waste (i.e., fruitless). Indeed, Allah to the human kind is Full of Kindness, Most Merciful.
Ayah 144. Qad Nará Taqalluba Wajhika Fī As-Samā’i Falanuwalliyannaka Qiblatan Tarđāhā Fawalli Wajhaka Shaţra Al-Masjidi Al-Ĥarāmi Wa Ĥaythu Mā Kuntum Fawallū Wujūhakum Shaţrahu Wa ‘Inna Al-Ladhīna ‘Ūtū Al-Kitāba Laya`lamūna ‘Annahu Al-Ĥaqqu Min Rabbihim Wa Mā Al-Lahu Bighāfilin `Ammā Ya`malūna
2:144 Indeed, We see the turning of your face towards the heaven. So We will surely turn you to the direction of prayer you will be pleased with. So turn your face towards the direction of Al-Masjid Al-Haraam and wherever that you ˹believers˺ are, so turn your faces in its direction. And indeed, those who were given the Book surely know that it is the Truth from their Lord and Allah is not unaware of what they do.
